At 2:16, when they turn the power back in it shows them flipping a 50 amp breaker. I have a feeling if you connected a Nest to that circuit the 240V supply would blast it right off the wall.
How funny...I noticed the same thing. I'm sure only a select few picked that up or were bothered by it. And to the other poster, I don't know of any thermostat that uses a 50A DP 220 breaker. 50A is usually reserved for the stove but could also be used for other things...but certainly not in this application. I'm guessing they just flipped any breaker since they were only making a video and it didn't matter.
Why the plug is not centered and flat? Because it is not exactly in the centre and because it is not flushed with the sensor I need to drill bigger hole in my ceiling, otherwise it is impossible to rotate it into the backplate... Such a simple thing could save people a lot of time and save their ceilings from unnecessary holes ...
as a pro installer this really annoys me too. and the fact that the power cable isn't double insulated as required for all cables ... I have to either install a lining box, or just bodge it with sleeving (and wago the actual connection) its a joke. because google know the requirements. but the biggest issue I have being the off centre plug - I cant patch the hole, but worse still. they could even make the plug disappear into the unit! it doesn't need to protrude.
I just installed mine but I have 3 white and 3 black wires already coming down. Not sure which one to use but I connect the nest white with all the white and black with all the 3 other black and twists with the cap. I hope I'm doing it right as there are more wires then I see on this video.
if it's not a nest alarm then no. As the video says it dose not need the communication wire because it has no use for it because nest communicates wirelessly so either way it would not be hooked up to your other alarms.
@@johngwallisthis is disappointing because if you live in the flats where there is a main system it would not trigger the mains to know everyone in the building about the potential fire..? 🔥🔥🔥 I wonder why they left that out
Harward Ones, however, if you have a heat detector in your garage and a fire occurs in the garage it wont set off your detectors in the house since Nest tells you to cap the red interconnect wire. This will not pass fire code.
I feel sad that Nest products are not supported in my country... I don’t know why!! It’s supported in UAE but Oman not!!! Even they refused to ship for me from USA or at least update their app so it’s included Oman. I am not talking about myself only but about widening Nest products and business
Does anyone know if Google is abandoning the Nest products? I bought a 2nd generation Nest Protect (wired) and it is not supported by Google Home or the newest Google Hubs with video. It's crazy.
Nest Protects will still function as smoke/CO alarms without a Wi-Fi connection, you just won't receive notifications from the app until your connection is restored.
will the other Nest Protect's still talk to each other so the other devices will alert others in the home there is an alarm or do they become independent because there is no wifi loosing the interconnect feature ?
@@googlenest why not interconnect wire also connect to each smoke detector? Without wifi there will be no communication between all smoke detectors. That's not good. It is required bylaws in my city!
Hey google when they turned the power back on they flipped a 50 amp breaker, if a nest protect was wired to that circuit whouldent it explode or something?
My Kidde wired detectors expire in 2023. I'm WAS looking forward to upgrading to Nest Protects as I already have Nets Yale, Nest Hello, Nest Thermostat and more. Upon research I found that installing Nest Wired Protects throughout the house would cause a failed fire inspection. BE CAREFUL. If you have a wired heat detector in your garage (standard to code in new homes now) it will be rendered useless. If you have a garage fire from a car or something else the wired heat detector will set off the Kidde Alarms that are currently hardwired in my house. If they are Nest Wireless Interconnect they will not go off (red wire not connected to Nest Protects). Maybe Nest can come up with a fix before I am ready to replace my smoke detectors. If they don't I will have to stick with the non-wireless interconnect detectors. I still like Nest products though. Good Quality but customer service needs some work!!!
If I'm watching your video it's because I want to learn how this is installed when there's NO existing carbon monoxide detector in place. It was dumb of you to ask me to refer to the manual. How am I going to do that if I don't own the product?
Don’t have one but I’d say nope! That’s the first thing I thought of as well but unfortunately they said in the video to cap off the interconnect wire. I definitely think it’s something they need to add though.
Who came up with the idea to change the backing plate and power connector? Now it will take me 4x as long as I was expecting to replace all my 1st gen Nest Protects with 2nd gen models. It's a major pain in the you-know-where :-(
Guess AMAZON doesn't like the Military. Just like so many other products. DOES NOT SHIP TO APO addresses. APO is a Military address. I've complained to Amazon. You should to. thank. This is a safety product that can save lives.
John W. So do these run on their own wifi system? I want to get these for a house I'm buying, and I need smoke & CO detectors on all floors in order to pass inspection and get approval for an FHA mortgage. I won't have my internet and wifi set up just yet. And would it be the same with the battery version?
Of course leave it to GOOGLE to complicate this more. Coming from a GEN 1 I could use the standard backplate. Now just because for zero reason you have to swamp out the standard for this “special” BS plate. I wish I knew this before I bought the new one. Make more work for people for ZERO reason!
do yourself a favour and avoid this garbage product - instead of simply warning you of carb monoxide you will be required to create an account with names, address , emails etc, - this garbage is data collection not carb mono protection
Eddie Bryant so why do you think people buy this? I thought they buy it for the alerts via phone, all in one smart device. But I am deterred if I have to give all my info just to use the app- seems like a data collection opportunity that doesn’t need to be there
