Well done. The idiots who installed mine didn't pre drill the holes for the brakets that attach to the top of the door and the screws split the door apart and two years later the screws pulled out. I got the door out and put some wood glue in the split and added some wood screws to hold the door together. I then predrilled new holes and attached the brackets. Reinstalled with help from this video and it's back in working order.

That's not uncommon with those who aren't familiar and I'm glad you were able to find a solution, and I'm glad I could help. At 2:10 you pre-drill a few holes to fasten that way to header.. I used the brackets but decided to drill one hole in the middle as it seemed would give it a little more support. A word of caution to all; I had metal shavings and wood chips that effected the smoothness of the rollers. Pre-drill like in this vid if so desired, but also make sure you get all debris removed from tracks. Luckily I wasnt closed in yet and took door off again to get completely clean

Great points. I stopped using those brackets long ago. I don't understand the purpose and it's harder to deal with. Whether I'm doing new or a retrofit, I just screw it to the header. Much easier and more stable. Thanks for watching.

Great video. Is the only way to fix/replace a broken Johnson wheel track to take out trim?

If any type of pocket door track is broken or worn, yes, it has to come out. I've fixed 100 pocket doors, and never was I able to simply reach up and fiddle around and it was fixed. However, sometimes, by removing the trim on one side, it's possible to reach in and tighten something, but that's rare. Thanks for watching.

Can I cut the split jams down to size. I only have a 82 inch opening.

Yes of course. Just make sure you pre-drill the holes for the screws where they attach at top because the steel is very tough. Good luck and thanks for watching.

When you purchase your pocket door frame did it come with the wood inside the split jam?? Or did you have to cut the wood and install inside the split Jam?

I'm guessing you bought recent, like me? No wood anymore in the split jams it seems, looks like they send self tappers that go into the steel. I'm not a big fan and agree, the wood seems like its the way to go, theyre cheaping out it seems......
