It's good. Not the best. He got lucky and the floor landed where he did not have to cut a sliver of the flooring to fill a gap. He didn't do a proper layout. Look for a video from a person who only does laminate flooring to see the layout process.

Square your rooms out. This is a really easy install. If u don't it will be messed up. Find out what wall to start out at or if u need to start the install from a hallway. A lot of math is involved to get a proffesional look. That also keeps u from using multiple transitions points. A lot of these Diy videos don't really show u how to install the flooring properly. Been installing floors for year's, and actually go in and reinstall floors that Diyers have destroyed

@@TheFixerHomeRepair By any chance, do you have any suggestions on how to approach an issue where your wall is not entirely straight as it pertains to cutting the boards to fit? Should I start paying wood at the level line? Or should I start by trying to get the first row cut to where it had a sloped edge against the wall?

Oh my goodness FINALLY someone actually shows how to lay flooring!!! Thank You so much!! I've watched many videos and the best teacher is Joe, so that's how you do that channel, but... He explains it as if you've done it before, I can't say thank you enough, my only question is once you cut a plank, how do you get it to connect to the one in the row? It seems like I'm doing something wrong? I guess what I mean is do you always have to have a groove to snap into? It seems like I'm waisting way to much flooring?

Cotton Oh So Cotton laminate, hardwood etc expand and contract depending on heat/cold. If there isn’t space to expand then the floor has to expand somewhere else. Causing the boards to lift up and out somewhere in the room. Take a piece of paper.. then push from both ends of it, you will get the picture.

Great video ! My only tip to others if your going to follow this to a tee .. and your not continuing the hall way , rip the 1st row off the door jam . You want your transition under the jam . You don't want that grab. Then at 20:13 .. you won't end up ripping under 2-3in plank like he had too based off the veiw never got to see a close up of that last side . I'm thinking they had to still had a hard time with that hallway with out ripping a long strip under half a plank .. just my guess .. solid work and my sure his buddy happy with the job

@TheFixerHomeRepair
@TheFixerHomeRepair 5 лет назад
Hey Robin! Yes, it should be the same. If you have a situation where you have a lot of moisture like a basement with no sump pump maybe you could paint the floor with a sealer or install a subfloor but this stuff is very durable and resistant. That is my opinion anyway!
@jennifereshelman917

You would also have to use underlayment (it is a very thin insulation,helps with noise reduction and acts as a barrier between any dirt and your flooring.)

@Jimmy_Cavallo
@Jimmy_Cavallo 4 года назад
🌟✨🌟 Great video. Thanks. Is there a way to turn around and install the flooring in the opposite direction? I Have to go into a closet. The doorway is 24 inches and the closet opens up inside to 5 feet. The boards will be perpendicular to the doorway not parallel so when I run the first row on the left side of the doorway extending them into the closet then moving to the right I’ll have a few more pieces to install going to the left. With hardwood flooring you can put pieces back to back. Groove to groove which allows you to go the opposite way in certain areas. ✌🏼
@TheFixerHomeRepair
@TheFixerHomeRepair 4 года назад
Hey, James! There is always a way... I would not recommend flipping the floor. You should still be able to continue the floor into the closet the same way, it will just take some extra effort. I suppose if you really wanted to you could flip the boards and put a threshold over the seam. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, James!!

I have a 18 ft. Built in Dresser that runs the total width of my master bedroom . The dresser currently sits on top of old carpet. After removing the old carpet I'm thinking of running a strip of laminate parallel to the dresser that would slide under the dresser. Then lay the rest of my laminate perpendicular to that one strip of laminate . I'm worried about losing the " Floating Effect" on that one side of my floor. The dresser has Intricate mounding at the bottom , that's why I'm thinking of running that one strip parallel to the dresser and sliding it half way under the dresser. The other solution would be to remove the drawers and jack the dresser slightly off the floor, slide the laminate under and continue running my flooring perpendicular to the dresser. I will end up damaging and having to repair the dresser . Again I worry about losing the "Foating" effect and the floor may buckle because of the weight of the dresser would lock that end down. Please give me some advice on solving this problem. Thank you

Hi, great video, but I have an issure in my closet....What do I do around the crawlspace door opening, and to the cover of it with the planks??? do I glues the planks to the crawlspace cover? How do I cut or nail or glue around the crawlspace opening??? Nobody has videos about this which is mind baffling!!!!!!
@TheFixerHomeRepair
@TheFixerHomeRepair 2 года назад
Hey! Yes that would be a great video! Wish I had something like that to show. So what I would do, if the crawlspace cover is even with the floor, is just start laying the floor over it. Make sure to mark it as you go, I would even mark it about an inch bigger than the hatch itself. Then you can either cut the pieces out as you go or after carefully with a circular saw and either a jigsaw or multi tool for the corners. Then with stuff like this I would just shoot some nails into the flooring over the hatch and either drill a hole in the hatch or make some sort of handle for it. Hope you can visualize what I am saying. Like I said this would be a great video so I am sure I could explain it much better that way. Let me know how it goes if you do it. Thanks for the comment and for checking out the video!

guys,I wonder where is underlayment?)) as far as I know floating floor laminate particularly can’t be installed without underlayment!) I’m kinda shocked 😳 😅
@TheFixerHomeRepair
@TheFixerHomeRepair 3 года назад
The underlayment is built into the flooring. It is the padding on the bottom that I pointed out in the video. Thanks for your question and for checking out the video!

Sorry, it was hard to see but did you use the spaces around all edges of the room vertical and horizontal or just one the one edge of the wall where you started?
@TheFixerHomeRepair
@TheFixerHomeRepair 4 года назад
Hey Jonny! I only used them on that one wall and then estimated the gaps on the other walls. Hope this video gave you some insight into how to install the floor. Thanks for watching!

@@TheFixerHomeRepair Thanks. It helped a lot especially looking for one that was going to reuse the base trim without using quater round trim.

My first issue is that my first two pieces wont lay flat. They kinda wobble back and forth. Is there a trick to laying them down even with the floor ?
@TheFixerHomeRepair
@TheFixerHomeRepair 5 лет назад
Hey! Floor leveler would be your best option. You can get the stuff you add water to and spread it on the uneven part of your floor. You could try to take a few pieces and put them together on a flat part of the floor then move them to the uneven part but if it is too uneven it will move when you walk on it and potentially the seams could come apart. Do you think you could do the floor leveler or is it not worth it to try?
@Sjrick
@Sjrick 5 лет назад
The Fixer hey thx for the tip. I actually gave up after trying to bang them together. I’m having Lowe’s do my install. It’s not worth it. Plus I have a lot of area to do

So underlay not always necessary?
@TheFixerHomeRepair
@TheFixerHomeRepair 4 года назад
I guess technically this floor had the padding on the back so that can be considered underlay. You at least want the padding with this floor but I wouldn’t worry about any paper or anything. Hope this helps. Thanks for checking out the video!

How big should the space off the wall be?
@kevinwatkins8411
@kevinwatkins8411 4 года назад
Also, you can literally shift the entire floor by jumping and scooting it. (Nobody else in the room, or heavy tools) I had to when it was tight on one wall and too large of a gap at the end.

Do the boards have to be offset the entire install or once the first row or two is done it’s good to go?
@TheFixerHomeRepair
@TheFixerHomeRepair 4 года назад
They should be offset just for the fact that you want them to look random. Otherwise, all of the seams would line up and you would notice patterns that would make the floor look blah. Hope this helps, Wes. Thanks for watching!

I know laminate flooring is suppose to be floating, but i have a large living room and i dont trust the floating way in my living room, can nail down the laminate flooring with 1 inch brad nails?
@TheFixerHomeRepair
@TheFixerHomeRepair 4 года назад
Hey, Saeed! I would not recommend nailing the floor down. It needs to move around (not a lot). If you nail it down there is potential of the seams popping out of each other and i'm sure some other issues. You can do whatever you want but the product is not meant to be nailed down. Can I ask why you don't trust it? What do you think the issue will be? Thanks for the comment.

Those spacers how did you make them?
@TheFixerHomeRepair
@TheFixerHomeRepair 2 года назад
Hey! Good question. The spacers are actually cut up pieces of a paint stirring stick that you get with any paint. Easy way to make them all the same with without ripping them down, find something like that that you know is always going to be the same thickness and cut it! Hope the video helps! Nope. We don’t do this for a living or anything so we just used what worked without buying the specific tools. Also wanted to show other people this way so they could do it without buying specialty tools. Thanks for the comment and for checking out the video!!
