I got this CANBUS LED headlight kit from my friends at Motorfiend.
Link to kit: www.motorfiend....
Link to both high and low beams: www.motorfiend....
Link to Motorfiend: www.motorfiend.com
It's a unique kit in that you can alter the color temperature to suit your taste. I opted for no color temperature change and just installed the bulbs directly. I was VERY happy with the result. I was even happier that the kit was so easy to install. It honestly took me longer to zip tie the resistor blocks in place than it did to install the bulbs.
**Please note that you may not be able to install these headlights into some halogen headlight housings. Check your local laws to see if you're able to legally install this headlight upgrade.
Thanks for watching!

I have tried many different LED headlights and I find that the lower temperature lights (4500) are the best. The LED lights light up highway signs way too much almost blinding you to what is beyond. If your car came with halogen headlights you should most likely stick with them since your car's headlight assembly was designed to work best with these types of bulb. You can however change the temperature of halogen bulb for something else. Always remember that when it comes to halogen bulb the brighter and more powerful the light the shorter the life. I am sure to get some flack here and that's cool. I've tried them for years now and I do over 100 000 miles a year of night driving, and this has been my experience. -John

Sounds like you've never tried an HID or LED bulb. Meh you can stick with your crappy halogen.

+Big Guy Review Also depends on what type of housings your halogens are, i wouldnt use LED's or HID's in standard reflector housings, but projector housings, like Erik installed them into work well since it aims the light better to reduce glare, I do see that in adverse weather the warmer light colors < 5000k work better which is closer to the halogens. but since ive done HID's im never going back lol

@ivangarcia5562

+BustahNutt when he showing off the light output on the garage door, u can see the cut off from the projector housing. Halogen housings don't have that cut off
@DanielRichards644
@DanielRichards644 8 лет назад
+BustahNutt the sharp cutoff line, with the slight step in the middle that can be seen at 4:16 this is a defining characteristic of a projector headlight, because halogen headlights don't have these cutoffs.

So after seeing this I immediately bought this exact product for my 2013 Honda Accord. I must say, I was incredibly impressed with the final product. I didn't put any of the filters on but the light already had a blue-ish hue to it that looked like every other OEM HID. Any filters probably would have hindered the brightness of the bulb. Overall, amazing product that I wouldn't have found had I not seen this video.

Wow!, thats made a hell of a difference :-D Leds have come a long way since the days of leds just being a dim pilot light, typically used on early vcrs and stereo systems.
@aserta
@aserta 8 лет назад
+zx8401ztv Yeah, it's impressive where the old LED has gone. And this is the best time to be alive because one, you get the experience of old LEDs and thus know what they are and do and two, now the prices will start to drop more and more as production and sourcing for materials gets more and more documentation and experience. Already kits that were upwards of 500 600 USD have dropped considerably.
@zx8401ztv
@zx8401ztv 8 лет назад
+aserta They are not the animal they used to be, led number displays have stayed much the same but power/brightness wasnt required, just look at all the channel displays on c.b radios and other equipment, they lasted donkeys years :-D. . Now we have house lighting using multi led bulbs and striplamps, for now i will keep my old flouresent types, i think leds need to see a long testing before i can trust there lifespan. But i mistrust all new technology untill the errors are fixed LOL :-D

I'm glad I read the comments because I though it would be nice to have some main LED headlights until people have pointed out that if you're not careful, you could face charges for making illegal modifications. A person in the comments pointed out that the process for light installation is a very tedious and sophisticated process that insures road safety. Goes without mentioning too with different lights means you might have to readjust the aim on them. So I guess with all that said, guess I'll hold back on headlight installation.

The bright white or slightly blue light output is where it's at right now. I enjoyed HIDs and loved the LEDs look but the manufacturers still have the upper hand. LED replacements for halogen reflectors and projectors are just abysmal. They look better than they actually perform. If you look at LED headlights on any car that has them from the factory (BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Jaguar, etc.) they have one or more "projectors" and use a highly sophisticated system of refraction to create a sharp beam pattern and use multiple high-powered LEDs for the refraction. There's a reason that replacing factory LED headlights costs thousands of dollars. Put a car with aftermarket LED upgrade lights next to a car with factory LED headlights and you'll see it's a waste of time and money. Right now, the best aftermarket lighting upgrade for legal low beam headlights is still HIDs. 4300-5500k with 35 or 55W ballasts. I jumped on the bandwagon too for a while and that's how I learned. I put a set of "high-quality" LED upgrade bulbs into the 9012 halogen projectors on my 2014 Dodge Durango and they were terrible. I had 5500k HIDs with 55W ballasts before and there was no comparison. Until the technology advances and the aftermarket catches up to the automotive manufacturers, HIDs are the best bet.

Halogens are always more focused and will give you more down road visibility. If you take a look at the comparison the LED is much more floody and the halogen is much more focused which will give you better view further down the road. These cheap or expensive plug and play LED kits sadly don't work as well as I hope they would. They do give a white light and offer good flood but when your driving you want to see as far down the road as possible, not necessarily in front of you.
@Phos9
@Phos9 8 лет назад
I want to point out that the reason the halogens are more focused is that the housing was designed around how halogen bulbs output light.
@counkev
@counkev 8 лет назад
+Phos9 Exactly, also do you think these manufacturers use quality LEDs? I mean a lot of them are coming from the same company just put in different boxes. I would like a reputable manufacturer to start making these with extremely bright and reliable CREE LEDs.

I did this upgrade on my 2014 CR-V, and mounting the zip ties for the fogs was a gigantic pita because you have to basically do it blindly with one hand for the most part, underneath the splash guard. other than that, installation was easy, and I'm very happy with the results

@psdaengr911
@psdaengr911 8 лет назад
I don't know if it's the case on that Odysey, but on other models of Honda the headlight lamps have seals that go over the backs of the lampd to keep moisture and dirt out of the housings. Combined with the heat of the halogen lamps, this keeps the reflectors shiny and stops mildew from growing. Not to belabor the point, but it's a violation of Federal law,incorporated by reference in many states' laws, to replace exterior vehicle lights with a different construction lamp. The "H" lamp type codes are SAE engineering codes for halogen lamps, don't apply to leds.

I'm not sure about this specific kit, but I did an LED headlight upgrade on my vehicle and it caused serious interference with the radio signal when in operation. The simple fix for this is adding an rF choke on the supply line to the LED fixture. Pick them up at Radio Shack for a few bucks each. They're shaped like a barrel and clamp around the line like a clam shell.
@stymiesnerdly771

Place the rF choke as close as possible to the LED lights for best results.

Eric, I was wondering how the LED bulb would do in freezing rain days and snow. The heat from the stock bulbs usually heat the headlight housing so snow and ice would melt. Have you put that to the test yet?

@j.carlosandrioli7639
@j.carlosandrioli7639 8 лет назад
+Mr.Claude what a load of bullshit. firstly europe is not a country - i.e. each country has different regulations. And you're wrong: You CAN do engine swaps in europe. And again: they DO ride diesel, in fact VW's biggest diesel market is european. You're right about the inspections, in spain and france, etc you have to inspect your car (no matter how old it is) every 4 years. Like you do in Ontario. They have stricter regulations because Europe has a lot more cars per square mile than north america, yet their accident statistics are very low.

It is going to be interesting to see how long those LED's last, the track record varies greatly dependent on the build quality, and how hot they get. nice to see that the led's seem to be in line with the position of the filament in the original lamps. that is good news, a lot of the HID type conversions don't do so well when put into a reflector designed for a certain type of bulb. Nice easy job, keep us updated on how they are doing and how long they last. Thanks.

I like the imprivement they have given to the lighting on the odyssey, ill be honest though i would have gone with HIDs, HIDs are the best performance in Projector housings like this one i have noticed out of the results i have seen so far. i am currently getting the list of parts together of what i need to order to projector retrofit my 2009 Ford Fusion and pt my current HIDs into them so that it wont be so blinding to other drivers on the road. none the less nice upgrade for sure

@frankgonzalez24
@frankgonzalez24 8 лет назад
+Mike Utoober If you were to replace halogen bulbs with HID bulbs without replacing the housing that would be illegal. You would have to replace both the bulb and halogen housing for an HID bulb and projector housing in order to be street legal. And doing that costs several hundreds of dollars. LEDs are cheaper than HIDs and don't require a projector housing.
@MikeUtoober
@MikeUtoober 8 лет назад
Hids just need a projector housing, which the odyssey has. right now i have HIDs in reflectors which is changing so dont scold me over it please. but anyways as long as you have projectors HIDs are legal
@frankgonzalez24
@frankgonzalez24 8 лет назад
+Mike Utoober I didn't know you have an Odyssey. Yes you can simply swap halogen bulbs for HIDs in those and any other vehicle that have projector housings. It's when people swap to HIDs in a non projector housing is when they are not street legal. As a licenced emissions and safety inspector, I have failed a few vehicles that had HIDs in non-projector housings. If Eric's or your Odyssey come to my shop for safety inspections, the lights would have passed.

I like these LED bulbs so much better than stock stuff. My problem is, my 2004 Jetta has covers over the back of the headlight. This makes that nothing new fits without hacking the cover. :( But I want these bulbs!

+uwibern Ah yea, mine are 9007 dual/hi/low beam. H3 fog lights. It's a shame really cause dual beam are the best for HID's. (Constant burn) At some point I guess I'll just drill a hole to run an hid wire. I couldn't do these LED bulbs cause there's not enough for room.

Honestly, the halogen looks to have a more intense hotspot, which isn't surprising at all since an led emitter cannot replicate the dimensions of a halogen filament. At leas with the projectors you won't be blinding anyone as you would with reflectors.

Hey, do you know if there is an WORKING quality equivalent for H4 bulb? Im looking and looking but everything i find falls apart when somebody test it. It usually gives less concentrated light and cannot be properly set because of that.

+EricTheCarGuy how do them led's work in the fog and dust i heard led's are useless in the fog and dust because they just illuminate the cloud of fog and don't actually cut through it like other styles of lights

Take a cheap $15 luxmeter and check the halogen vs LED side by side. I'm betting the LED retrofit gives 4-5x less illumination. I'm a lighting professional and I love LEDs when properly applied but I'm yet to see a retrofit headlight bulb that wasn't a total BS.

Hi there Eric. Thanks for doing this. Been thinking about doing this on my 2013 Rogue. How is the illumination distance? Does it braodcast the light as far down the road (or farther) than the halogens?
@DaHitch

1:15 Now might be a good time to dispel the myth that touching halogen bulbs with your fingers would damage them in some way, because they don't. It is correct you shouldn't touch the bulbs though, but for an entirely different reason. When you touch a light bulb you are leaving a thin residue of grease/oil on the bulb that comes from your fingers, all skin has a thin layer of grease on it to protect itself and it basically rubs off on anything we touch. And while that doesn't hurt the bulb in any way, what does happen is that when you turn on your lights that grease will vaporise and condense onto the mirrors of the (head)light housing which will hurt the reflectivity of the mirror surface in turn reducing the amount of light being thrown out. TL;DR touching lightbulb doesn't damage bulb, but reduces reflectivity of mirrors because of hand grease condensing on it.
@rbdoppler7841
@rbdoppler7841 8 лет назад
+DaHitch Correction: The oil forms hot spots on the bulb under operation and can damage the structural integrity. The uneven heat also has a negative effect on the life of the filament and the light output. Not cleaning the bulb off can lead to the glass cracking or even bursting.

+Nicholas wilson yeah, to a newer car, LOL. I feel the pain tho, for years the 4th gen firebirds (a far, far newer vehicle) where trapped in the sealed beam bullshit, till someone realized the housings from the 88-89 Silverado was the same size, which meant we could use the CLEAR GLASS (with 9006/9005 replaceable bulbs) LMC Truck housings for those years on our cars, perhaps there is a full size truck out there that has the same size and shape headlight as the civic
