You can use a larger power supply and run 12v to the amplifier from it. I would locate the power unit centrally and run the appropriate wire gauge to the amplifiers.
@Flexfireleds
@Flexfireleds 11 лет назад
Hello Steve, You can use one power unit to power both strips of 300RGB. If you put the (2) reels of the RGB 2 connected to one power unit, you would experience some voltage drop, the end of the run would be realllly dim, and the colors would not look right. However, you can make put the RGB controller in the middle of the run and have one strip go to the right, and one to the left out of the remote. Make sense?
@Flexfireleds
@Flexfireleds 11 лет назад
Yes you can, but you should run it somewhere else through the 12v system in the car, When you start the car, the 12v sometimes can jump up to a lot more than 12v, and damage the remote. If you put a voltage regulator between the power and the controller it should work.

Both amplifiers are the same, the difference is in the size and conenctions. You can use the mini amplifiers every 5 meters (for 300 LED strips) and for every 10 meters (for 150 LED strips). Each amplifier needs to be powered also.

if anyone can help me i would appreciate it. I am trying to put lights under the stairs on front of the house. I have three steps, the bottom 2 stairs are 10 ft, the 3rd is to the patio runs 22 ft 5 in. I saw that I can get 32.8 ft of strip to one power supply. can I get a splitter to have all three runs go into the one power supply without any loss of power or not same brightness of light? Total i am trying to run about 45 feet of leds can I have to go to one 12v power supply?

I'm making an LED light panel [photo/video.] I will have 24 strips layed next to eachother. Each strip will be 4ft. If I connect 3 rows of 5M [135w], would the voltage [brightness] drop? Or would it remain at 12vDC, because I'm only using 4ft lengths? P.S. I'm using a 350w power supply, splitting the power of 6 strips [45x6 = 270w] 2 ways. Will that 48ft of strip stay at 12v considering only 4ft strands?

You can do this over and over again until you run out of power sockets to plug all those power supplies into it's got to be a better way and I haven't found it yet but I do have some ideas look everyone these LED lights you should just plug the main power supply in because that's what these adapters do spend all that money to have to plug it into the wall anyway just use the plug that comes with it and this string the lights next to each other in a straight row it's the exact same thing that's my complaint anyway it's got to be a better way

Hey there, got a couple of questions if you dont mind : Do I need to power the amplifier with a separate power supply ? For example : I have 2 rgb reels 300led.5m so I would need : 2 power supplys for 12v 5A and an amplifier. Or just one power supply ? Or I can power the first strip and the amplifier from a 12v 10A power supply ? What would happen if i just put 2 strips together with a 12v10a power supply without an amplifier ? the 2nd strip would be less bright or lose signal ?

Will just a amplifier at then end of the 8ft run work to power the next run or do I need to run parallel which would then be about 30 ft from controller to beginning of the strip

You mentioned that on the end of the run ,you should install another amplifier and another PSU along with the connectors. What if the main PSU is strong enough to support 2-3-4-5 or so more reels? Can't we keep going on as long as the main power source allows us? Also, the same thing for the amplifier. I have a 12A 144w for 12V amplifier, which consequently supports 2 300LEDs reels. Can I connect two different reels at the end of the amplifier? Thanks.
@Flexfireleds

Thank you for your video. Does the information apply for one color LED strips? I need to run 65 feet around my deck in Colorado, its around 30-40 feet from ground level where I have an electrical outlet and I also have one at deck level. I would love to be able to run from one of the 110 outlets, preferably the one on the deck. I don't want to see the power supply (or supplies) or the amplifiers. Would I be better off purchasing a landscape lighting transformer to power them with a 72W Outdoor Waterproof Low Voltage Landscape LED Power Supply Converter/Rectifier, Input 12V AC to Output 12V DC and run two runs end to end from one power source? Hope that makes sense! Thank You....

Hi Cheryl, thanks for watching our videos! It's a bit tricky to give you a straight forward answer without knowing the specifications of the LED strips that you are using. The max run length in series that an LED strip can do depends on a lot of factors such as amperage, voltage, circuit board etc. I welcome you to give us a call at 1-844-FLEXFIRE to speak with one of our project developers, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to help!

Hi Jeff, thanks for watching our videos! Most vehicle batteries have an output of 12 Volts DC. This means you can use an LED strip that runs on 12 Volts DC and connect it directly to the battery. I am looking at doing a very large install and want to use a WIfi controller. the most of the power supplies will be in a central place. with the strips leading out. can I hook up the input for the amplifiers in parallel. instead of the series option you are illustrating. also would these amplifiers load down the out put of the wifi controller. Thanks
@Flexfireleds
@Flexfireleds 10 лет назад
I think I understand the project. Each amplifier will need to be powered on its own, so it would not load down the Wifi controller. The amplifiers simply carry the signal from the Wifi controller and separately power the 12v back into the strip. If this does not answer your question give us a call! I'm wanting to run 2 sets of these to my sign at the road. I'm trying to run 12V out to the sign nearly 200 ft away. Any ideas how I may be able to make this happen? If I run 120 to the sign I have to get an electrical permit whereas if I run 12V I don't. Thanks.
@Flexfireleds
@Flexfireleds 10 лет назад
Stephen: There are a couple of different options to complete this install. To start we highly recommend that you contact an electrician. If you were to try and do it this way (with the long DC run) we recommend running 12v DC wire (most likely 4-6 AWG) from your store to the sign. Make sure that this wire is outdoor rated and protected. You will need to run two lines of it so that you can power each reel. Inside the sign you will also need an RGB signal amplifier to make sure that the second reel is powered without having any voltage drop. Please feel free to email us for further assistance.

so this is all fun and games, but there's a problem with this imho. you don't have a contineous line of RGB strips this way. the great thing about these rgb strips is that you can cut them at the copper marking, and then use a clip to connect one to another. the problem then indeed is power supply. 2 strips will work okay, but then it's all but over. now this amplifier is nice and all, but i have a bit of a problem with it, and that is that it completely cuts the fluency short of the led strips. you have this massive hump of metal before you can go to the next strip, which kills continuity. so how do you make a setup where you have like 22 meters of wall [all combined together] and you want it in one straight connected line where you don't get a 'gap' of light?
@Flexfireleds
@Flexfireleds 7 лет назад
Thanks for watching our videos! In order to make it look like a continuous line, the power supply and amplifier must be installed at a distance so that only wires run to the strips. That way you can get the two strips really close together to make it look like a continuous line of light. Feel free to give us a call for a more detailed explanation at 1-844-FLEXFIRE

Flexfire LEDs thanks for your reply. The red blue and green works perfectly. The intensity is all the same. Ive tried changing Amps and it's doing the same. The strip on the amp doesn't match when changing colours to yellow orange, and other mixture of colour but blue red and green is perfect. The controller says 18amps on it and I'm sure the amp should work on a single 5m strip. I did however found a workaround. I Linked all 3 strips from controller and connected the end of the last strip back into the controller like a ring circuit. Works perfectly without an amp. But I'm sure this wouldn't work with very long length of strips.

if it says 360 watt it can output 360 watt at maximum. the led strips use power.. lets say you got 30 meters of led's and they are rated for 400 watts, you would need at a minimum 400 watt power supply.

Then its a low power led strip... Just look at the specs of the led strip and psu.

IP68? I thought waterproofing was IP65?

IP65 is dust proof and protects against low pressure splashes, whereas IP68 protects against full submersion.

No difference, the larger one is easier to install, the mini one is low profile.
