I *applaud* Mr Brian for *cleaning the cut-out* in the swingarm. Detail. Detail. Detail. This makes a real material difference to the install. Dirt, grime, debris in that area will impact the new part. If these cats were in Sydney Australia I'd take my bike here in a heartbeat.

@@sportbiketrackgear Got them a few weeks ago and my local bike shop fitted them. They look great! Just did my first adjustment of the chain (new chain and sprockets). Did notice one thing though, the left side rear adjuster couldn't be moved easily by hand. Had to use a small 10mm open end spanner. The right hand one was easily turned by hand. Am I missing something here or did I get a dud set? Oh, and XSR900s don't need the axle nut either.....
@kyussdemon1
@kyussdemon1 Год назад
Did you mean it didn't need the washer? After your chain adjustment, what did you torque your axle nut to? Yamaha specs are 108/lbs, but lightech says not to exceed 74/lbs. I also have a 2019 xsr900 and have a set of these lightechs that I haven't put on yet because I don't know what to do. I've read some stories of these adjusters cracking from being torqued too tight. How are yours holding up a year later?
@robertandmariajames8190
@robertandmariajames8190 Год назад
@@kyussdemon1 Sorry, mental slip there. Yeah meant the washer. After a year they are still holding up really well and make adjustments really easy. The torque setting for the nut is way too high. It once took me 3 days to get the axle nut off with everything I could find. In the end I bought a 750mm breaker bar and that had enough leverage to get it off. This was pre-Lightech adjusters. There's a little bit of wear on the anodising but that's to be expected. It's just like the Yamaha spec chain adjust is too tight - I run mine at 20 - 30mm
@kyussdemon1
@kyussdemon1 Год назад
@Robert and Maria James Yeah, I run my chain around 25mm. Seems to be the sweet spot. I just haven't put the lightechs on yet because I just don't know what to torque the axle nut to. Now that you have the lightechs on, what do you have your rear axle nut torqued to? 108/lbs like yamaha says seems way too high. But the lightech 74/lbs seems kinda low. What did you end up with? Thanks for replying BTW. I'm getting very anxious and wanting to put these things on like YESTERDAY, lol. I just don't want to break them by torqued too tight, yet don't want to under torque and risk the rear wheel coming off. Not a lot of clear info out there.
@tp4839
@tp4839 4 года назад
Just fyi in case anyone is wondering, these aren't completely compatible with the 2020 R1. The 2020 has a slightly extended swingarm at the rear to allow a little more adjustment. So while the adjuster will still fit you can't use the back plate unless you drill new holes in the adjuster. LighTech sites states 2015> so curious if they are going to have a 2020 > specific model coming. Right now debating if I'm going to return the kit and go back to OEM blocks or just leave the back plate off. That's what I get for an impulse purchase! lol Went to local shop for oil and it was there. lol

What do you torque your rear axle nut to? Yamaha specs is 108lbs, but lightech says max of 74lbs. I have some I've delayed installing because I just don't know what to do. Also lightech says to not reuse the washer, what did you do? Thanks for any reply.
@imacatnotaraccoon5656
@imacatnotaraccoon5656 10 месяцев назад
I have the same bike. Do what lightech says. Remember those torque specs are based on the use of OEM mild steel chain adjuster blocks not aluminium, going to those higher torque ranges could potentially brake the Lightech adjuster.
@clayphoon3269
@clayphoon3269 3 года назад
I noticed you reused the stock axle but washer, but the instructions say not to. Should I be reusing it? Also, the stock axle but torque is 137 ft-lbs but the Lightech instructions say to only torque to 100 Nm or 73 ft-lbs. That seems super low. What did you torque the nut to?
@sportbiketrackgear

I used the washer then stopped using it later. For the axle torque I am pretty sure 137 is too much and over spec. 73 sounds more like it. - Van

Trausti Ingvarsson I’ve seen people run the imitation ones. It’s like this; you buy quality, you buy once. You spend in parts what you value your life and possession. I used to subscribe to going the cheap route to get things done. After those parts have failed, I had to buy them all again but better quality the second time around. That was with cars. When it comes to bikes, do it right the first time; you don’t typically get a second chance if you do it wrong.

Always love your videos. At the end I checked the vernier scale on each side of the Lightechs vs the Motion-Pro chain alignment tool and there is a disagreement. In order to get the rear sprocket aligned exactly with drive sprocket, there is about a 1.75 to 2mm difference left vs right on the Lightech. Any suggestions as to which way is more accurate?
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 11 месяцев назад
Odds are the discrepancy will be in the bike itself and not the adjusters. I have a laser chassis alignment system I use to get the rear axle aligned on Max's race bikes now. Once you establish the variance you just note it and factor that in each time you make an adjustment. - Van
@imacatnotaraccoon5656
@imacatnotaraccoon5656 10 месяцев назад
I just got done measuring the difference with mine using a vernier gauge as well. The different was in the axle itself. Look inside and you may see a step (I was measuring from from the inside of the axle to the flat surface on the swing arm where the Lightech adjuster is bolted to). Measuring at the exact same point on the opposite side there is a 7.6mm difference. The threaded side has a step and is tapered with a smaller diameter.

do you have a different sprocket/ chain then factory? i just installed these lightechs ( from watching your instructional ) and i tried to set them to 26 like you have in the video but that seems way to tight. im at 28 right now and it seems to have the right amount of slack in the chain? couple inches or so.

Very important you set the chain tension on your bike to the proper spec. You will only use the indicators on the sides of the adjusters to ensure it is even. Not sure what gearing I had on when I installed these, just focus on the chain tension and you will be good to go man. - Brian Van

Hi Van, what torque would you recommend for the real axle nut for using these adjusters? Yamaha spec is 150Nm, I'm just wondering if that kind of torque could deform or damage the adjusters?
@sportbiketrackgear

will this chain adjuster work with the woodcraft rear axle sliders
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 7 лет назад
Yes the Woodcraft Axle Sliders slip into the axle and the chain adjusters do not prevent that. At one point I did have some Lightech sliders on the rear axle with the chain adjusters. - Van
@gbjoo8

If you flip your axle so the nut is on the left side you don't have to do the amateur trick with the wrench in the sprocket. Always the nut on the left side
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 3 года назад
To make that happen you would need to pull the chain adjusters apart which is not something most will want to do (this is a chain adjuster install video). End of the day you still need to put something between the sprocket and chain to make sure the axle blocks are firmly against the adjustment screws. The bike my son races in MotoAmerica have the axle flipped. - Van

You take a unessesary risk when you stress the chain like that, think safety and do things right
@imacatnotaraccoon5656
@imacatnotaraccoon5656 10 месяцев назад
"Stress the chain". Bro there is over 100nm of torque going through that thing repeatedly everytime you ride. Probably considerably more torque when you think about getting on and off the throttle, rider weight, depression in the road, bumps..

I think the scale read should be in the opposite direction. I mean, the longer you go with the chain it should read a higher value. And It does not improve accuracy in the final alignment, since you still rely on the alignment of the rear arm. The only positive thing I see is that the fine thread might give more control in thre procedure. Is a good looking gadget anyway.

This is awfully expensive for what it is. You already have to loosen the axle to perform this task anyways, at which point, this isn't really that much easier than counting wrench turns and doing the fine tuning via string.
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 5 лет назад
These are expensive and worth every penny my friend. I have used these on 2 bikes now and really see the value in them. For sure you can get the chain dialed in without having these, they just make it much easier and a little more accurate. Another real benefit is you do not have to worry about your axle block adjuster bolts coming loose. - Van

The OEM chain adjusters come loose on several bikes and need to be checked frequently to make sure the jam nuts are not backed off. The Lightech chain adjusters eliminate this and allow for more accurate adjustment. Team M4 ECSTAR Suzuki runs these on their GSXR1000's because they simply work better than the OEM. As you stated they are also beautiful! - Brian Van
