How To Install MODS For FALLOUT 4 | FULL GUIDE 

UPDATE: As of May 3rd 2024, the new Fallout 4 Script Extender Version is out. I just reinstalled the game and followed the exact same method, and the game launches just fine. Typing "getf4seversion" shows me the version, all is good. That said, some mods may need an update of their own, and that's up to each individual modders. But as of now, you can mod Fallout 4 normally again! The most common seems to be "Couldn't find fallout 4 exe" when trying to launch the script extender. That's because you put the actual loader on the desktop, instead of the shortcut. For anything else, I suggest you google any kind of error message you might get to find forums where people may experience similar issues. Though generally, if you follow the tutorial to a tee, it should work fine, as other people here can attest. Playing FO4 after 9 years of its initial release date. I was OBSESSED and played this when I was 13 and now I'm 22. Played it on the Xbox one, but 4 years ago I switched to PC and learned how to mod my games by modding my BG3 playthroughs. This video helped a lot man, thank you so much for making this video not too long ago. Most of the videos I stumbled across are years old, so it's very nice to see a more recent version on it

Everything went exactly as described until the I clicked the f4se loader exe and I get a pop up that says "can't find fallout 4 exe" but I then read that it's cause I didn't put the shortcut on my desktop. Such a smallnth9ng males all the difference. Thanks man

So idk if he said but you must start the game through the f4se_loader -Shortcut on desktop or it will not work for the loader

Is there by any chance an option that I can simply use the Vortex Mods folder where I download the archives to, to be also used as mods deployment folder? Because I end up having all my mods downloaded in the Vortex Mods folder AND upon deployment also in FO4 folder. So I end up using up 2x disk space. Which becomes stupidly too much at some point and restricts my options for certain modlists like Wasteland Reborn.

Do you have any recommendations or mods that could help improve FPS and make the game less laggy. I got the game for the first time on sale so I'm new to playing it for the first time. Your tutorial is very helpful!

Greetings, i have a question here. Is there a chance that the game will frequently crash due to the number of mods installed? I had my game crash with just downloading mods from FO4 menu and they weren’t 20 mods. If there is a mod in nexus that helps with managing these mods or makes them less heavy?

I am having trouble after the shortcut was made. It is on my desktop but when attempting to use, it gives me fallout4.exe cannot be found. I believe I followed the steps as shown, it may be messing up because of the folder location but I am not sure where to start to fix it, I am very new to pc and also modding fallout, kind of panicking if I had accidentally messed up the game entirely.

I received several comments of people with this issue: *Couldn't find fallout 4 exe*. When trying to launch F4SE. Look carefully at 4:00, when creating a shortcut for the loader, it's the SHORTCUT you have to put on the desktop, NOT the actual loader. If you move the loader out of the game folder, it won't see fallout 4, hence the message.

Hi everyone! hope you're keen for the new update. Can someone please HELP me. I recently got into modding and using Vortex I found the I'm getting notifications saying that fallout and some of the dlc files "failed to parse plugins". will this affect my game at all or will the game and dlc still be in as normal?? thank you for any help!

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I've slowed your video down and did everything you said but whenever I try to launch the game using the shortcut I get a black screen then back to desktop. I've even tried launching it regularly by steam and it won't open.

Just for others who are coming back to Fallout 4 after the update and TV series etc. - save yourself the money and get the Game of the Year (GOTY) edition from the get go! A lot of the most popular mods require all of the DLC content to be installed and I wasted about $7 on buying the base game and then buying the GOTY edition seperately after making this realisation because, stupidly, the GOTY edition is cheaper than buying the DLCs seperately, or the season pass. Really helpful video btw!

Did everything as you said in the video, the f4se not working (doesn't load up, yes tried 3 times) vortex keep giving me errors for mods. And the mod menu in game, does not let me enable any mods either. What can be wrong?

You can't use the f4se loader without first using the Steam launcher open. Without it open you'll get a window to quickly open and then close, going back to your Windows screen. Once I went through this, it would then allow me launch from the f4se loader without first opening the Steam Fallout 4 launcher.

do mods alter saving files? i want to install some but i've already started a game and i don't want to lose my progress :(

The F4SE steam launcher has a 7zip icon for me, and it wont work. Its done this with a bunch of my files though I dont know why it wont work. Giving me a huge headache.

Should have used Vortex all together, need to get used to it. Fallout 4 on MO2 is tough. Though I guess some mod managers have their pros and cons. :( I'm slow and some people just talk way to fast for me to understand, and this has helped me so thank you. :) Do you have one for Skyrim SE as well? I have seen allot of tutorials for Skyrim SE but they talk really fast and difficult for me to handle. Sorry. lmao. Hope I can find some VR tutorial mods too for these games. :)

Nice introduction I made an overdose of Skyrim but I'd rather use ModOrganizer than Vortex. :)

But can I open the game from Steam? Or does it have to be through the shortcut I create?

I have followed all steps up to Vortex, running the shortcut opens the game fine and when checking command console it shows i have the correct script extender, but when going into vortex and Fallout 4 it shows i dont have Script Extender installed (gives me a popup to tell me this and when clicking the 3 dots beside it in Vortex it does not give the option to Run as shown in video) I have retraced my steps multiple times to make sure I havent missed anything but I have not, any idea where I am going wrong?

Hello, Weather mods are working except for the rain weather conditions. Anything to do with rain weather makes my game so bright. The textures, my model, npcs, buildings are all white. Edit: Fixed it by turning off Wetness setting in the launcher. Ty for the guide❤

Anyone know how to fix an issue where you try to open vortex, but it says that it is already running. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times, and it still says the same thing. When I check my task manager, I only see the one instance of vortex as well. This started happening after I moved vortex from one ssd to another.

Can we just install script extender to vortex and have it on there, or do we have to drag the files to the game's files
