In this video we teach you how to install a Nest Thermostat with Heat Pump Wiring. In this video we install the Nest Learning Thermostat. The Nest Thermostat is compatible with heat pumps that have an O or a B wire for the heat pump reversing valve but is not compatible with heat pumps that have both at O&B wire.

THANK YOU!!! All I needed to do was change from O to B and I was about to pay $75 to have someone come out and do that.

Thank you so much!! I finally installed mine since I had a 7 wire system that caused some confusion, the 7th wire being brown for my "Emergency Heat". Put the brown in the *connector and ran a test. Everything works perfectly with no faults!! This video was wayyy easier to follow than the nest instructions.

In what connector? I have a brown wire that goes to Emergency and aux with a wire for aux, im guessing I don't need the emergency wire?
@bullpolizei
@bullpolizei 8 месяцев назад
@artsoto5459 I ran my brown to the star connector for (emergency/Aux) heat everything works fine. Not sure on your setup but sounds similar to mine.

@@bullpolizeisounds like it, I have a 2 ton Goodman heat pump, with Aux being the same as Emergency heat, I am not even sure why the emergency switch is on my thermostat, how is the nest working for you?
@bullpolizei
@bullpolizei 8 месяцев назад
@artsoto5459 pretty much the exact same setup I have, Goodman heat pump and air handler. I think yours would use the same wiring mine did. The nest will tell you whether it's wired right or not so it's worth a shot. So far, so good. I really like it, it's saved me some money on energy costs for sure. I have 2 of the nests, top floor and bottom floor, wouldn't go back to a standard stat.

This video is extremely informative, I'm struggling with a geothermal system that has 3 white wires. My current thermostat, (white and rodgers 1f82-261) has WH1 with 2 white wires and E with a blue and a white wire. I'll look into your more complexed system video you mention. Thank you for your time and effort posting these videos.

Thanks for the O/B explanation. I was trying to figure out why it was blowing cold when I had heat on. I switched it from O to B and now it heats when I turn heat on.

Cool video. Any reason for that thermostat not showing any cooling option when selecting a temperature lower than the current ambient temperature?

At the 16:06 mark...why does it says AUX Heat on the Thermostat? Isn't AUX Heat used only when the temp is below 35 degrees?
@nick4819
@nick4819 9 месяцев назад
If I'm not mistaken, it comes on when there is a big temperature difference. Since he set it 3-4 degrees above what the room was, the thermostat thinks it needs a ton of heating. Once it gets to temp, it will try and maintain that temperature and should only use the heat pump.

I have a heat pump, with heat strips. No other source of heat. My old thermostat had AUX/E with two wires in it. (white & black in my case) White goes to W1 in the air handler, (W1 jumped to W2), and Black goes to heat strip relays directly. (how it was when i bought house) Prior thermostat heat strips kicked on in extreme cold if heatpump could not keep up, and emg heat worked from thermostat like it should. I put the white wire to W2 Aux, and the black wire to the *. would this be correct? or do I not even need the W1 wire? If I recall , heat mode the blower runs slightly slower then in cooling mode. I would assume the board uses signals from Y1 or W1 to determine blower speed or maybe the O reversing valve input? I know just enough to be dangerous, thanks for your time.

I have a 2 stage heat pump with electric aux heat. My thermostat requires a W1 wire but you mentioned that’s for boilers. Does my setup make sense to you? I would have dual fuel then, correct?

I have a Nest installed with a heat pump. It used to shoe aux heat when I turned up the temp from a low setting to a much higher setting. Set it remotely through the app as it is a vacation home. Right now I have it with heat pump balance off and aux to be used below 50. (I'm concerned about deep snow on the heat pump) shouldn't it show on the app that it is using aux heat?(outside temp is 18) Thank you!

I just replaced my old gas/electric system to packaged heat pump. I only have R,Y,W,G 4 wires. My contractor put non wifi honeywell T6 pro thermostat. It seems W wire is now connected O/B instead of W as before. Can I still install this nest system by just connecting wires as is now?
@ShortyzProductionz

I installed a nest and the heat pump heating function works but cooling does not, cooling also heats. I have the O wire set to seasonally on it but it never gets a “call” from the thermostat for the reversing valve. I get no power on my multimeter. I’ve tried switching to B and it has the same outcome

Sir, I am in Dallas Texas. I have a Nest Learning Thermostat (A0013) with a (Daikin) heat pump and just bought it (HP) because I got a GREAT Deal. I never wanted to use the heat Pump for Heat because gas is 1/3 the cost cheaper and is abundant. It cools very well. I continue to want to use the gas furnace for heat all the time and never engage the Heat Pump for heating. Do I need to TRASH this Thermostat for that to happen?

I have a Gas furnace + heat pump and AC. When I set up the nest, do I choose a dual fuel system or a single fuel ( 11:25 )? At the beginning of your wire setup, I have almost the same wires as yours except my white wire is in W/E. Is it ok to put my white wire in the W2 aux? Happy New year!!
