HOW TO: Install Passenger Seat (Pillion) - Harley Sportster Iron 883

Seems easy enough right? That's because it is! It's really not that difficult removing the seat from the Harley Sportster Iron 883, and just as easy to add the passenger seat to it from Harley!
When going online and looking for a walkthrough, I couldn't find one. So while it's easy, hopefully this 'How To' will help some people and give them that little extra bit of confidence if they're thinking about riding 2-up!

NOTE: Beware of the cheap ones on Amazon / eBay! Many reviews state that these 'knock off' seats scratched peoples fenders. With the OEM pillion, no metal is touching the paint on the fender. I purchased mine used off Craigslist for half price, and in great condition!

Thank You! Just bought my first bike, (Road King - used) and it had a solo seat just like yours, but no back seat. Like a cager, I had no idea how that back seat was gonna attach with the main seat using that nut. Almost thought I had to buy a new seat with the back attached! Now I can just get the passenger rear seat! May sound stupid, but I'm a newbie! We all didn't know what we now know when we first started something, right?

Hey man, thanks for the vid it helped me a bunch. However, FYI, Harley recommends to bolt the strap to the fender, not to the pillion itself. That's what I did, it looks okay.

+pkhkp I'll have to try that out! Seems like it'd be a pain to bolt to the fender and then try to put the seat on. I saw a walk through that had the strap like this, but I think either way it's attached, I'd rather have any passenger holding onto me instead of that small strap. I wouldn't trust it if riding on the back tbh, but maybe that's just me. Appreciate the heads up pkhkp! Glad the vid helped you out as well 👍🏼

Yeah at first I thought it was gonna be a nightmare to slide the seat into the bolted strap, in fact it was quite easy (just don't forget to cover your tank since you may scratch it with the front of the seat). Looking forward to your next videos, ride safe!

Thanks Jesus! Yeah it has a bit of a double meaning. First one is that the 3 points represent honesty, trust, and happiness, essential parts for the foundation of a solid relationship. Miss Blockhead has the same tattoo on her right arm but just the outline. Yas, it's a couples tattoo, haha. Additionally, triangles are the strongest shape, as any added force is evenly spread through all three sides, thus representing strength and stability.

i just picked my '17 883 yesterday and I want to get a 2up option. is this the same seat that damaged your fender in one of your other videos or is this one fine as long as i get the rubber washer for under the seat?

The 2up option didn't damage my fender, the fender damage was actually under the stock 883 seat. The stock pillion was fine, I'd just recommend a nylon or some kind of washer between where it bolts on and the fender.

So the front original bolt has the special little but with the rubber clip to secure it to the fender. What did u use as a nut on the rear ? Just a standard nut ?

+Abel Perez Hey Abel. Is the seat made by Harley, or is it some other brand? One of the reasons I went with Harley's seat and not another brand is bc I read about other seats (that were cheaper,) scratching the paint on the fender. If it's the screw that's holding the pillion down that's scratching the paint, be sure to put a nylon or rubber washer between the seat bracket and the fender.

My seat doesn't live that high, only lifts up about an inch or so. The seat ain't coming off man lol 2018 883

Do what you'd do on any other bike, slide the whole seat back 1-2 inches. then lift the front after the hook he showed multiple times is off the bar and slide forward
