another way instead of cloaning,is to download the Lenovo Recovery media, and create a usb installer, it will re-install on to a new nvme drive, i just did this ... thanks for the video
Nice video. For Windows 11, I needed to initialize the new Samsung SSD990 Pro 2TB first - so after connecting the enclosure with the new SSD I opened up "Disk Manager" and selected the option to initialize with GPT partition.
MR CADILLAC, WOW!!! I DID IT!!! WOW!!! JUST FOLLOWED YOUR INSTRUCTIONS, I BOUGHT A ASUS ENCLOSURE, A THOUSAND THANKS. PS REF: INSTALLED SAMSUNG SSD 980 1 TB, AND IT WORKS LIKE A BEAUTI.....LOVE IT.....:):):)
My cousin gave me his a few weeks ago. My models a 15iil05. Was so slow but it did have a 1tb hdd and fully compatable with windows 11. Managed to upgrade the hdd to nvme ssd and now it's lightning fast and boots in seconds!
I’m trying to get used to it Dale but I’m not really a fan of the changes they made to windows 11 so far. It’s not windows 8 bad but I’m not a big fan.
Hi Dale, thank you for the awesome video! I recently purchased a ThinkPad T16 Gen2 (running Windows 11) with a 512 GB SSD already installed. I wanted to upgrade it with a Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB SSD that I snagged on sale this Black Friday. However, when I connected the Samsung SSD to the laptop using an NVMe enclosure and a USB-C cable, I could see the external SSD in This PC after initializing it through Disk Management. However, the Samsung Magician software didn't recognize it as a Samsung SSD. When I tried to use "Data Migration," it consistently displayed the message "Please connect Samsung SSD" in the Target Drive section. I've tried two different enclosure cases (SSK and UGreen). BTW, I have turned off the "Data Encryption" on Windows as you suggested. Have you encountered similar issues? Thanks!
Dale, you helped me learn the process of cloning these M2 drives which I very much appreciate. I have 2 questions: 1) Do you have a link to the device you used to hold the clone which connected by USB? 2) Is it necessary to put that blue thermal strip on the drive? I don't think the drive on my Dell Inspiron 7506 2n1 originally came with one.
@Cadillac Computer Center Thanks for the video! However I have got a question for you, Dale, If you have a new Lenovo laptop and if you run "Disk Management" you would notice that there is one big partition obviously C: that contains OS, boot, and all your files etc. but other than C: there would also 2 un-named *hidden* partitions there too, one is "EFI System Partition", and the 2nd is "Recovery Partition", so my question is when you use Samsung Data Migration Tool, did it migrate all these 3 partitions to your new SSD980? Or it migrated only the C: partition and you lost Recovery and EFI System Partitions during the cloning process? Thanks
Appreciate the upload i have been looking for a ssd enclosure compatible with Samsung 970 evo 2 tb. Alot of them have issues with them having a different software but anyways is it necessary to unplug the battery and is protection from static electricity also necessary, if so any tips on that. Upgrading my lenovo legion slim 7 amd
Hello Dale, thanks for this video, but i still have one question : i have an Ideapad 3 AMD Ryzen 5 3500U 15ADA05 with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx 2.10 GHz, can i upgrade to a 32Go DDR4 2666MHz CL19 ? After reading all the comments here and there, i've read all and everything, and would love to be sure before buying it ; Thanks in advance and keep up the great work !
Hi. Very nice video tutorial, thank you. Is possible to clone the original Windows of my factory HDD 1TB in my iCore5 laptop to a new NVMe SSD 500GB, and afterwards keep the old HDD as a reserve drive inside the laptop?
i have the lenovo ideapad 3 gen 6 with amd ryzen 7 5700u cpu and i want to upgrade its storage with 980 pro ssd rven though it supports only pcie 3.0 because i will upgrade my device the next year with the lenovo loq 16. can i use 980 pro to my laptop or i should go for 970 evo plus?
Does the idea pad 3 have gen 3 or gen 4 capabilities? I have been using the gen 3 drives for my refurbs. This one is brand new how many different Idea pad 3's are there out there? It gets confusing when they use the same name for so many generations of computers.
Hi dale, I have a quick question, can I just insert the new ssd on the laptop slot and start cloning my hdd to the new ssd withouth using a dongle? Then just swap the boot priority on bios? Thank you.
Hi. On this model there is only one m.2 slot. So an adapter will be needed. If you have a model with a 2.5 inch hdd, and an m.2 slot, you can clone that way as you said, however, it gets a little tricky when you have 2 drives with windows installs on them both. After cloning, remove old drive, let system boot off new drive so the boot manager won't get confused. After a good boot from new drive, reinstall old drive and see if it boots from new drive. Then you should format old drive, only sfter you know your booting from new one. Go into disk management to see. Hope this helps.
@@CadillacComputerCenter This helps a ton since I'm new to this. Can I just unplug the hdd after a succesful clone or do I have to deattach it completely and boot the system? I'm a bit frighten of unscrewing things so if I can get a workaround of lesser things to remove the better. Thank you so much for answering all my newbie questions.
Hello, I have Lenovo ideapad 5 14 inch i5 1135G7 processor and MX450 graphics card. I'm using 512 SSD, the performance is a little behind, will it work if I buy a Samsung 980 Pro instead? If you have tried it, you can run the Samsung 980. Please I want information about this. 🙏
Hi Dale, I am about to clone and replace my SSD 238GB to a 1TB SSD on a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 15IHU6 will I lose Lenovos digital services like the smart performance by doing this?
