How to Clone Your OS Drive to a Samsung SSD Using Samsung's Data Migration Software 

Hello everyone! Thank you for checking out the video. As of today, Samsung has removed this software from their website and integrated it into their Samsung Magician software. Instead of looking for the Data Migration link, just download and install the Magician software. Once installed, run the program and you will see a button on the left dedicated to data migration. I highly appreciate you make the process from the VERY BEGINNING Initiliazation of the drive, also answering the beginners questions like DOES it matter what Drive Letter i choose, unfortunately you do not answer the question DOES it matter what Type (MBR / GPT) of initialization. You just show the correct setting. For a lot of other youtubers the sellers provide allready initialized drives (i don't know where to order them i only find offers for blank drives) So again thank you for also covering the very beginning, with the questions a starter would struggle.

Thank you for the video, it helped me in my quest to swap out the SSD on my new HP desktop. Your video helped calm my fears as I've never done anything this advanced on a PC. My HP came with a Samsung M.2 256GB SSD, and I upgraded it to a Samsung M.2 980 Pro SSD with heatsink. I used the SABRENT NVMe M.2 SSD to PCIe X16/X8/X4 Card to initially house the 1TB SSD, and had to initialize and format the SSD before cloning. The Samsung migration software was so easy to use, it only took about 5min to clone the SSD. Once my HP shut down, I swapped out the drives, turned on the HP and then formatted the 256GB SSD and it works perfectly. The only step I didn't know would work was swapping out the SSDs. I just went for it and it all worked perfectly. Thank you again!

Thanks for the help. Everyone on YT were using Samsung Magician and that software was not reading my 990 evo as a samsung drive. I used Samsung Migration instead and the drive was showing up as a target drive.

Im using all in one pc 240SSD and buy 1TB then decided to just install a new window instead of migrating data cause i got scared when i saw some issues to someones devices after they migrate it using other software but today my samsung SSD finally arrive then i saw a note guide & read bout data migrating and samsung magician soft. Thanks for posting this video! Question: what about those partitions in the source drive you had labelled as Healthy (EFI Sys) and Healthy (Recovery Partition). Can you ignore them from migrating to the target drive? I guess, after reading the Limitations #4/#5 on the Data Migration manual, system reserved partitions will be created but not the OEM partitions.

Awesome video! I've never attempted this before. I bought a 2tb nvme SSD 990 pro for my HP envy laptop to upgrade from my 256gb nvme SSD. Piece of advice for other newbies that might run into this problem: Everything ran smooth until I got to the data migration (now seemingly called Samsung magician). It wouldn't allow me to begin the data migration of my 256gb SSD and it only showed "encrypted source drives cannot be replicated" After some research I finally figured out it was because it was encrypted. I had to go to settings>privacy and security> device encryption and turn off the encryption. This took many hours, not sure how long, I just let it run overnight and woke up to it completed. Then when I attempted the data migration again it allowed me to begin the process of cloning the SSD.

8:04 Both the source and target are C: I only have one slot in my laptop so will their be any issues/conflicts having two drives labeled C when I install the newly migrated SSD, or say should I remove the new drive and replace with the old SSD for whatever reason? Say you connect the old SSD via a USB enclosure to use as backup storage. Will it be renamed, or still be labled C in my computer? Will this cause conflicts? Lastly, does this software partition the new SSD exactly as the old one or something different, or can you make it do so/do the partitions as you like? Thanks for your nice video.

Hello, thanks ! This video answered to a couple of my questions. But still there is one doubt in my mind, what if I have an ESXI environment on a disk (250GB) that I'd like to clone\migrate to a new one (500G/1T)? Will the tool migrate everything 1:1 ? Thanks in advance.

So as I want to clone my C drive (windows installation drive) over to my new Samsung SSD, once installed, use the software to clone everything over, then I need to go and change my old C drive letter right? Thank you for informative video. I and transferring from an older Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB to a new Samsung V-NAND 990PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 2TB. The old disk is in an old (around 8 years) self-build gaming desktop and is still running Win10 Pro as the hardware is not compatible for Win11. The old gaming rig is also getting flaky with PSU spikes regularly shutting it down. The 980TI graphics card is failing too. I have a new gaming desktop rig anyway so the old one is going to be broken down and salvaged. The new M.2 card will be going straight into a new gaming laptop that I got for a good price, but it only came with 512GB M2 storage, fairly inadequate for gaming in my view as I've found 1TB to be too small as a rule. My gaming desktop has 4TB which allows breathing space. My first smaller question is that the old rig does have an M.2 slot on the mainboard (ASUS Maximus VII Hero, manual says that the bus is PCIe 3.0) could there be a compatibility issue with that, and the new M.2 SSD given the age difference? I have heard that there are M.2 variations, could it cause any damage to the new M.2 SSD? Would it be better to use a USB adaptor? I guess I'll put it in and find out. The second question which would be useful if covered in the video is that I notice the Magician transfer process warns that open files on the source will not be transferred. Would it be better to boot the system in safe mode or lower level to reduce the potential of open files being skipped? I have also noticed in previous transfers that some MS 365 (Office) config files (such as .ost and archive) are not transferred in the process so it might be worth getting a copy of these manually before formatting the source disk. Also, I have heard that Win OS can have licence/activation issues if it encounters different hardware (CPU etc.) have you heard of this? Apologies for the long post!

If the Target SSD drive is larger than the source drive, dose the migration deals automaticaly with the partitions or you have to do extra work after like some other programs? is it just one button and done for this program to samsung disks? And is it posible to use non samsung disk as source drive? Thanks for the video helped alot!

The Samsung directions show using a USB to Sata adaptor to clone for a desktop too. My desktop HDD has two SATA to Mobo cables and two cables from HDD to power. The new SSD has only 1 of each. I want to be able to clone the clone. If I make the 1st clone the active primary drive, could I not clone it to other SSDs using the USB to Sata adaptor?

You didn't mention what to set the destination drive boot sector and what to set it at I noticed two options. Which one should you use ...does it make any difference which one you choose ??? Thanks

Question: Programs installed on the old C drive. Example: MS Office, Adobe InDesign, Acrobat, will they run on the new drive after migration? OR do they need to be reinstalled and re registered as if new?

I can still use my drive that is in the Lenovo. PS: is there a way I can test the new SSD on my Lenovo to see if the new ssd and all my programs works without removing the old SSDHD drive? If you change file system in refs on target drive, but you copy from ntfs. What file system be a boot drive, system windows 11. What happens with hide partition which os create.

Question, I am using a desktop PC with m.2 drive and I want to go to a bigger drive. So when I migrate the data to a bigger m.2 drive, obviously I cannot give it a C drive as well because it will be connected externally for the migration. So if I plug in the new drive after I am done, will the computer freak out now that the NEW DRIVE"S DRIVE LETTER IS D or something else?

I’m new to pc, I have a windows 10 desktop and I have 3 SSDs from Samsung, they’re all the same except for the storage capacity. My OS along with a lot of data is on my 2TB, I also have a 8TB that doesn’t have anything on it. I’m trying to move EVERYTHING off of my 2TB onto my 8TB does this process move EVERYTHING off the Original disk or only my OS?

Once the drive clinging has finished do you then need to erase and format the original drive or is that done as part of the cloning process. Will it still appear in my system as “C” drive or does it show as an unrecognised drive that needs initialising
