Buying the parts now for my 99 dodge 1500 through your links! Questions if you know? First time buying a great shape used camper. Does this brake system uses the tow electrical hook up to send signals to the trailer brakes? My trailer hook up is pretty corroded it was installed years ago by U-Haul. Wondering if the wires are all terminated properly.
Yeah the trailer brakes get the signal from the connection. You’ll want to make sure those co tact’s are clean, scrape or file them to remove rust and such. Test them before hiring highway speeds! Stay safe!
So my 1997 ran 2500 doesn’t have the option under the dash I looked at every single wire and connection. Is there a way to just create your own wiring battery>ground>stoplight>brake>7way plug?
If I recall correctly when I stole my brake controller off my 97 2nd gen v1.0 3500, the harness was under the floor mat, but it’s been 9 months and I had it pulled in 2 minutes so I don’t remember what I did. 😂 it’s going into my ‘98 2500 club cab today, so this video Troy helped immensely, especially the long pause pics when you were working up under the dash. Unfortunately the problem with that harness is that there is no fuse. So if something happens you’re out of a brake controller. I would probably add a fuse to the power wire just for ease of mind
