Well, I installed the Traxxion engine guard today and this is what I found: 1. Shipping was fast but I do live in Georgia. 2. Item was packed very secure. 3. Everything including instructions was included along with three extra screws. 4. Brackets were marked well enough that a teenager could have installed them. 5. Plate will only install one way. 6. I did mount brackets to bike and added plate which was easier for me. 7. RU-vid video was step by step and easy to follow. 8. After mounting I went for about a 100 mile ride, really short to town and back. No effect on the bike temperature at all. No issues while riding. Almost like it was not there (Except for the peace of mind knowing my engine is protected). 9. Upon returning home I let the bike cool off. 10. I removed the plate only and inspected it for any oil at all, none found. Plate was clean when I installed and clear when I checked it. 11. I did loose one screw that holds the plate on, not sure why but with the extras that were provided that issue has been solved and I will be ordering extras tonight. 12. Only issue I had on the install was torking the back bolts, there was just not enough room with bike on center stand. My tork wrench is not a baby wrench. It don’t leak so I’m good… Final thought: spend your money and get this high quality pan that will save you engine. Worth every penny.. I watched the crash videos and this is why I bought this product. Side note if you are concerned about oil changes don’t be, simple fast and easy to remove the plate and leave the brackets in place. Thank y’all for supporting the military too. Michael S. Wood, US Army Retired…
@@duggsdoggs3696 Don't use any type of locking agent on the screws, it's unnecessary. We actually recommend anti-seize paste for people who ride in all conditions.
By the way it was 99 in ga today and I did a 25 mph escort for 18 miles temp gage did not move. Love your product and I would buy again and recommend others too also.
A massive thanks to Traxxion for developing this engine guard. I placed my order (also ordered the steering safety pin) and it was delivered to Australia in lightning speed, a big thanks to Dan for helping me thought the process of getting one for my 2023 non tour, and a big thanks to Max for his foresight in developing it. I fitted using his video and had no issues at all, a very easy task to perform. The quality is outstanding, and if this is the quality that Traxxion is putting out I won't hesitate to order more parts from them as they develop them, already have a wish list ready to go when funds become available. Once again a massive thanks to Dan and Max, for giving me the piece of mind while I am out riding that my engine is protected.
Hi John, We are also planning to work out some type of discount for our international customers to help offset the cost of customs and shipping. Please ask Dan before you order next time!
every part this man sells is thoroughly thought out and engineered before going into production...and to include the tools youll need, along with the hardware? who does that? worth the price on every level.
A sincere thanks to Dan and Max for the case guard, kick stand pad and super fast shipping! Worth every dime. I haven't put on the case guard yet waiting until I my lift get delivered. I will post after I get it installed! Thanks Max!
I installed mine 3 weeks a go and changed oil and filters yesterday. There where no problems taking the oil drain bolts from the engine and I did not see any leaks. When I did put the pan under I drill the seven holes to 7mm and no problems to fit the screws under it. I love it thanks Max.
My GW was used, and came with this guard. Some idiot way overtightened one of the 7 plate bolts. I had to drop the whole assembly by the brackets, then use a torch and an impact to get that one 4mm piece of hardware out. The engine oil was also over filled. DO IT YOURSELF. Thanks Max for the spare hardware which I found in a bag with the OE engine case bolts.
I installed mine today, Max. Simple to do and really impressed with the quality. So grateful for all you do. I've got a bunch of your products on my '18 DCT! Keep them coming ... and I'll keep buying : )
Wow Max! I knew you were the right man and company to solve this. What a design - super strong, hidden well but will look OEM, and simple for the customer to both install and manage bike maintenance. Thank you for taking a second look, solving, and supplying this need so quickly! Looking forward to getting one.
Had my case guard since winter, just finished the installation a few minutes ago in preparation for my first road trip of the season. The installation video made it easy. Start to finish less than 30 minutes. Also made the modification to the cubby latch (spring removal). So much easier to open now. Thanks Max for all you do for the Goldwing community.
Another expertly described and hands on demonstration!! Not only do you make a great product you do an excellent job describing the whole process. Thanks
Just installed mine last night, what a perfect fit and true protection, so glad I went with this one instead of the wingstuff product. So much more durable. Thanks Max
I'll Second that. I bought the wingstuff product a couple of years ago and just replaced it with this one. Live and learn. Literally took me 45 minutes to remove the old and install the new.
This is a very helpful video, but Max, you need to get a Milwaukee M12 cordless ratchet. It sure makes things go a LOT quicker. I just installed this pan on Dan's new Tilting Motorworks Trike. Went on smooth as silk.
Just installed the Alcan version of the case guard. Easy peasy with Max's installation video. The brackets and plate are works of art. I'm proud to have them on my 2021 Tour DCT.
Awesome I’m waiting for your email, I’m ready (for the production version) to install mine as soon as it gets here. Thank you for such a great design. The audio was just fine for me.
Max, I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, "you are Da Man". Even tho I ride a Harley I truly love seeing all that you do. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but a GW may be in my future in 2022 and I'll be spending mucho bucks at Traxxion Dynamics... TTFN Oh yeah thay great for using a jack if you don't have a table...
I was critical of the thickness of this and thought it would be a PIA to take on and off for oil changes and stuff. I'm man enough to admit when I am wrong. This turned out really well. I'll put one on my new bike. Regarding those corners you said you'll see from the front, it didn't look bad and will probably be invisible in anodized black.
Thanks Max, I enjoyed your presentation on the installation of your new engine guard! I am subscribed to your You tube channel as I thoroughly enjoy all the maintenance/technical information you offer. Thanks again, Loyal from San Diego, CA
Follow up to Bryan's question......WE NEED ONE FOR THE 2017 and back models !!!!!!! There's 16 years of our models and IMO, no one has provided a decent engine guard to date. Jim at Raceworx did your Mega Monty for me several months ago on my 2015 F6B and all I need now is the Traxxion engine guard (as soon as you make it!!)
Now, this is a solid plate/install. Fantastic kit. Max, due to the 4 bolts off the engine block, could you put in the instruction the required torque on your new bolts? I understand the meaning of hand tight, just not sure about the rest of the GW owners. Looking fwd installing it.
Just received mine. Install tomorrow. Does this one include all the mods you talked about in the second video? What about drilling two access holes in the cowling to remove the two front engine case bolts, then all that’s needed is removing four bolts instead of seven plate screws when changing the oil? Install rubber grommets to keep out the nasty stuff. Thanks for another great product! Update: Installed and went on no issues. I managed to install without removing the side engine covers. Tricky but saved a bunch of time. Hardest was the hooked tab but I figured it out.
You don't want to be repeatedly removing the engine case bolts because some oil can seep while the bolts are out. So use the 7 screws and some anti-seize on them. You kit will have all updates.
It took me about an hour. I am not mechanical at all, but it looks great. The two biggest hassles were the plastic, which I put back on in the wrong order, and getting my torque wrench on the rear bolts. Mine had the cutout for the DCT plug and I had no trouble getting the 12mm socket on it. My biggest disappointment is that I was hoping to find about ten push pins and a couple of 10mm sockets in there when I took all that plastic off.
Here's an idea...instead of black anodized, why not LineX the cover, or just the side that faces away from the bike. A thick coating of LineX would really make it bullet proof and stop that "tinking" sound that another user reported in his comments. If I ever get one of the new wings, I'll definitely have this product. Nice design Max!
I'll have to admit I was a bit skeptical before watching the video. Now I'm sold. Great design and execution. I also saw your comment that it's compatible with lifts. Sweet! Email is on the way.
I would be inclined to “chop off” a fraction of the front corners, avoiding the right front corner to slightly protrude from under the bike. But for now, I am looking forward to the looks of the final production version as installed on a bike.
Looking at the few pictures of the final product as received by customers, it seems that the corners are effectively more rounded off : nice ! The black anodized finish is looking great also.
The guy must have an iron butt. The Gold wings are comfortable, but damn, that’s a lot of miles in one shot. My hats off to him! I couldn’t imagine he’s riding on a stock seat. That’s the first thing I changed. Do you see the price coming down in the future? I would like to get one, maybe when you run a sale, just saying.
He feels no pain, that's for sure. Unless raw materials come down and everyone takes back the raises they've had to give employees, I can't see prices going down! Sorry!
On your install video at 9 min., 15 sec., your camera shows a good view of the engine's front casting and aluminum cases with wiring. I'm assuming they're sensors ? Your engine guard isn't extended that far so I was wondering if there was a reason why you didn't add more length up front or add a beveled extension ? The reason I'm asking is, I've seen stationary and airborne road trash thrown in our direction but we've been lucky so far. Please advise, thank you...
Surely, you understand I’m not worried about the wiring… The whole front end of the engine is exposed in that area. Is there a reason why the plate wasn’t extended to protect it ?
Max, There have been some reports of oil leaking from the engine where the engine bolts were removed (at the front or rear brackets). Is this anything to be concerned about? I understand that the replacement bolts are to be installed at 18 ft lbs torque. Will this prevent any leaks? Also, some have reported the holes in the guard not lining up with the mounting brackets (perhaps after the engine is warmed up). Has this been addressed or is it uncommon? If it is an issue, would widening the 3 holes in the rear of the guard solve the problem? I purchased your engine guard for my 2018 Goldwing Tour and can't wait to install it, but am concerned about any leaks. Thanks!
If you take your bolts out and leave them out for a long time, like say you're a guy like me making the parts, or a guy like Cruiseman producing a video then oil can seep between the case. When you tighten the bolts, it will squish the oil out. If you spray it clean it should be gone for good. I haven't had any other reports of this, as almost no one would have their bolts out as long as Cruiseman (or I) did. When I first was trying to design a guard, I stopped because I was trying to use all 3 bolts, and if I loosened two next to each other, oil actually began leaking promptly and considerably, which is why I gave up initially. Four years ago, my bike actually poured oil, and has been dry ever since.
We have heard of a couple of people with the one tight bolt. Loosening all the bolts seems to be the quick cure. We are studying today if there may be some tolerance between cases, if so, it will only require a single 8mm washer as a fine tuning shim to adjust this.
It doesn't, it hasn't, and won't catch on a curb. These plates are on bikes all over the world at this point, used in every possible environment. No one has ever driven the front of their engine into a curb that I know of, and I would be the first to know! The plate can't curve up because of the bodywork it is also functioning to protect.
Hey Max. Just took delivery of my 2022 Goldwing DCT in the matte nightshade blue color. Looks so much better in person. Anyways, I have received the engine case guard and have been waiting for clarification on a couple of potential issues before installing it (as well as my center stand). the issues I'm waiting to hear about are the following. First, oil seepage from removing the front engine bolts. How big a problem is this? Is it just a matter of maybe adding a little more torque? Second is the rear bracket possibly interfering with drain plug removal on the DCT. Cruiseman said something about removing the rear bracket to do the oil change, but don't really think that's a great solution to remove to engine case bolts for every oil change. If this is an issue, will you be swapping the rear brackets out, or having customers modify (grind out a bit) the bracket. Look forward to hearing back, and keep up the great work Max. Also looking forward to what you come up with for tip over protection. Thanks.

If you look at your rear bracket, there is a notch for the drain plug. If it is fully anodized black, it's the first ones we shipped. You can just grind that same path fully through and that's all that's required if you have the tools to do that. If you have a bracket with with a silver pass through it, then we have already milled that path here. If you don't have the tools to grind it, we'll swap it out.
Hi , Max. Does this plate impact the cooling of any engine or transmission components. It looks like it would restrict air flow, but I’m not familiar enough with the drivetrain to know. Thanks.
Max, installed on my 2021 and it looks and works great. Had to get used to the "tinking" sound from small debris hitting it from underneath. Quick question? Any issues leaving the guard on and jacking up the bike? I am assuming it is sturdy enough and short enough span that the mounts will hold. Installed my tie rod as well, it is awesome.
Jacking up the front wheel no problem for sure. I have not seen anyone jack the entire bike up yet to say. Those things freak me out anyway, so we don't have anything like that around here.
@@Traxxion I have been doing all the maintenance on my Wings since 1975,(4) to be exact. I don't let anybody wrench on my bikes Never a problem with oil filter changes and no new Wings after Honda ruined its great touring machine in 2018. Please have fun disassembling your plate thingy to replace oil filters. 😜🤣
I have a 2022 GW and am very interested in this product. Question: since the two 75mm and two 65mm bolts cross a gasket-sealing surface (did I say that right?), is there a recommended torque spec for those bolts? Thanks.
Great Job Max. I am waiting mine to arrive to KSA but I have questions. Should I torque the bolt that goes in the engine ? and what number should torque it ?
Yes, we only make one for the latest generation bike, as it has a weak point in the cases that can be broken open with a bit of bad luck. I'm not aware of that for the older gen bike. The aluminum "belly pans" are effective at protecting the coolant bottle which is the weak point on that bike as far as I know.
Fitted mine the other day after I done it I wished I had taken the sensors of the front because I trapped a couple of wires on one of the sensors fitting it on the floor not raised so if anyone is reading this before u install a great product that is is remove the sensors it is a lot easier and could save u having to solder some wires . Like I said it was my fault.
Why would you put Loctite on the bolts? We don't put Loctite on anything except the pseudo steering crown nut. We recommend the opposite... anti-seize. Since the bolts are subjected to the elements, you don't want them to face any corrosion bonding them to the brackets. If you put Loctite on the bolts going into the actual engine, that's a disaster. You should never put Loctite on any bolt going into the engine. Honda doesn't use it, and you shouldn't either. It's completely unnecessary. It makes a mess of the threads, leaves crumbs and garbage in your engine. We've been servicing motorcycles at my shop for 25 years, and my personally for 40+. I never use a drop of that stuff. ESPECIALLY on something that you will be servicing frequently. Never heard of a single bolt falling out of any motorcycle myself or my company has worked on.
@@Traxxion Honda also uses torque specs on all there bolts. The average do it yourself guy doesn’t either have a torque wrench or the Manuel with the torque specs. I’ve never had an issue using loc tite or anti seize. There’s a lot of vibration that goes on,, but if your happy not using either, I’m just saying.
Hi Max I was on the process to install this engine case and when I removed the fron bolt I saw little leaks and I was afraid to continue the installation. Not sure why the I saw the leak max I thought the middle bolt only not the one goes to the bracket!
Just install the brackets, torque the bolts, then spray cleaner to remove the oil from assembly. It won't leak ever again. When trying to figure out a design, I loosened the center bolt and oil POURED out of my engine, and after tightenting the bolts, it hasn't leaked since 2018.
@@Traxxion I didn’t know Max I was afraid and I put the OEM bolts back and unfortunately when I was putting all back one of the bolts and tight it I beak it inside front engine. I don’t what to do now
@@faisal155100 that can only be fixed by a highly skilled professional. It is unlikely you cross threaded the bolt, so a pro should be able to get the broken piece out without having to disassembled the engine. If you broke the bolt, you should not be working on your own bike anymore... unless you go and buy a torque wrench and learn to use it. It would take an incredible amount of overtorque to break a Honda engine case bolt!
NO LOCTITE. Never put loctite on anything going into an engine case. There's absolutely no reason, and they aren't built that way. 18 ft/lbs according to the Honda Manual, which sounds like a lot to me.
It does work with all pegs. We will have it for sale on www.traxxion.com around 12.15.21. If you send an email to max@traxxion.com I will contact you when they are ready.
