Install Vance and Hines 3 Inch Twin Slash Slip-ons on a Sportster Iron 883 under 15minutes! Vance and Hines Twin Slash Slip-ons was my first modification for my 2020 Harley Sportster Iron 883 (XL883N) motorcycle because I found my stock exhaust to be too quiet and boring. The Vance and Hines Slip ons were my first choice for my motorcycle because I love the look and sound signature. I thought about getting the vance and hines short shots for sportster but they seemed a little too loud for my community. This DIY sportster mod is very easy to do and any beginner rider can do this! Take your time and get it done right. I am a firm believer that loud pipes saves lives and Vance & Hines definitely brings that! Everyone on amazon reviews of this product is saying something about having issues with having to buy muffler to header gaskets. Do you know anything about that?

Okay thanks brother! I wanna buy these but you know how reviews can throw you off! And by the way the reviews were actually saying the gaskets from the “exhaust to muffler”. You probably know what they are talking about but I’m a noob cuz I just thought there was gaskets where the pipes meet the engine. I had no idea there was gaskets near the exhaust slip ons🤷‍♂️

@@ChaseMac22 oh so they r probably talking about the gasket of the actual pipe to the engine part. These slip ons dont need em because it's basically sliding a larger straw end on to the stock straw. What people have trouble with is the mount, they usually get stuck from stock pipes and hard to get off. I just ended up buying a second pair of the mounts (seen in the video) to make my life easier

Exactly how you’ve described. Only “issue” was aligning the new clamps ($9 each at my local HD dealer) w/the V&H to the stock pipe, no biggie. The sound is ridiculous!🙌🏾 Been riding nonstop since. Nice one mate, that was very straight forward to follow. Just to let you know though, the rear muffler clamp nut, must always face up and shouldn't really be facing down, otherwise it is right in the way of the front muffler output fumes 🙂I'm sure that nut would be a mare to get off later on if that was the case. I learnt the hard way, I preferred it facing down but then after reading the leaflet that come with the mufflers it stated "must" and then I saw why and then had to take at apart to swap it back - d'oh! Anyway just thought I'd let you know. Cheers

That is really good to know! Glad I accidently preferred it facing up on the rear one lol. Thanks for giving us the tip =D I ended up putting on the quiet baffles two weeks ago. The install video was a mess because the installation was extremely frustrating but I will get my video up eventually on that because people need to know how frustrating putting the quiet baffles on these are haha

Nice. I do a lot of my own wrenching too, and put V&H dual headers with S&S 80db touring mufflers on my Ultra Classic a few years ago.

Nice! For that kind of work, you have to re-map the fuel injection and change the air cleaner right?

Sort of.... I used a tuning module that auto-adjusts the fuel injection based on an O2 sensor.

@@82106167 yeah that should do it! Mine has some deceleration pops because it is running a little rich when the engine isn't warmed up but I am waiting until my warranty period is over to do diy stage 1 or maybe trade up lol

Yeah, HD has gotten grumpy about riders doing 3rd party engine mods to new bikes under warranty. Don’t think that was a good strategy. One thing that most riders love about Harleys is the ability to do mods.

@@82106167 I asked about that and it came down to emission standards that HD was getting in trouble by allowing aftermarket tuners and engine mods that changes the emissions standard to below what is legally acceptable. sucks for consumers tho

The stock exhaust clamps don't fit these slip ons...if they do i can't for the life of me get them on...any advice or do i buy new clamps? Thanks and great video!

@ksmotocafe Brother awesome video and tutorial ... i was able to get the 3in twin slashes for my Sportster 48 and install using your video ! Loads of respect. 1 question tho .... i lost low to mid range torque after the install of these slipons .... did you experience the same ... and did you do anything to remedy it? My bike is completelu stock except the slipsons . So it does not pick up/accelerate as quickly. Thanks a mil !

nicely explained... i got a 3' slip ons for my 883. i have an issue with the cross over pipe. the stock one comes with a welded cross over pipe and there is a port on the slip on also... any suggestion as to what needs to be done.. thanks

I have the 2009 sportster nightster xl1200n oem exhaust mount bracket. Do I need to change it to fit the Vance and Hines?

I don't think so but best that you check the fitting from your supplier's website or VH website to make sure it fits without other mods

"Much louder" lol. I always say a Harley isn't a Harley till it has the right pipes, it needs to be "wake up the baby" loud. Enjoy!

I've been smelling some oil burning smell and Too rough sound with a little leakage of air from clamp area? Any suggestions.

Try re-installing it and make sure the clamp is actually on properly. It might also be your baffle - if it had a quiet baffle installed and used for many years, the fibreglass wrap may have burned out

I recently purchased the same slip ons for my 2020 883 But the the diameter on the new slip ons feel a bit bigger and it took me 20 min to just put the clamps on, and they fit super tight. And when I put them on the bike, the slip ons feel really loose. You think it’s a manufacturing problem or any recommendations?

hmm did you loosen the clamp a lot before sliding it in? and then tightened all the bolts snug (bottom pair of bolts for each exhaust especially)? Send me a DM on instagram and maybe I can take a look

Thank you for the tutorial. I put these on my 2015 iron 883. I noticed that I feel like I need to shift earlier than normal now when riding. I am a fairly new rider so I may just be mistaken. But I find myself using third gear for 30-55 mph before the vance and hines slip ons and now with them on I feel like I need to be in 4th gear going 30-55 mph. Is that normal? I read about not needing to tune a bike if I am just adding slip ons. So I was wondering what kinda of performance would change? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Hey Danny that feeling is totally normal. I have noticed myself instinctively shifting earlier too because I am used to changing the gear by listening to the engine sound but since the slipons are so much louder, I was shifting earlier. But you gotta do it by the RPM. Not sure if 2015 gauges show rpm on the digital read out, but I change my gears around 3000-4000rpm. So I am at 4th gear at around 50-60mph

@@finnsgarageLLC That is correct! You will have to buy the quiet baffles separately. And they are not cheap.. Here is my take on it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z197TQg6x8A.html Also - if you intend on installing the quiet baffles, get them installed before you use the new twin slash slipons because once you use em, the carbon build up makes it very difficult to slide the baffles in and out (like my experience)
