Learn how to install vinyl plank flooring in a bathroom that looks like ceramic large format tile. Vinyl plank flooring bathroom installation is an easy process you can do as a beginner installer and only needs a few tools. The flooring is waterproof and will not let any water pass through the seams. With some caulking around the tub this should help prevent any water seepage from normal bathroom usage. It is a floating floor though, so take that into consideration as if the room floods there is nothing to keep it from going over the edges of the flooring. It’s a great looking floor and nice and warm on the feet.

Be careful when buying @Lifeproof Vinyl plank flooring. A lot depends on the constant temperature of the house or building it is being installed in. It was buckle and separate if there is Direct Sunlight coming in from windows or doors. I have 2000 Sq ft I installed and was recommended by the sales associate to buy and install underlayment at the extra cost of over $1000.00 and when the building starts to warm up in the summer the floor lifts at the joints and creates a tripping hazard. I contacted @Homedepot and basically, after 6 months of going through various hoops to resolve the issue they basically take no responsibility for their sales associate's recommendations of selling me underlayment that wasn't necessary to use. Now I have over $6000.00 of Flooring and underlayment that will most likely have to be ripped out!

As a professional floor installer and who has done remodeling floors in bathrooms that have any wood products as underlayment , the last thing you want on your floor is a product that has multiple seams like tile and floating vinyl floors life expectancy is 10 years . the best products for a bathroom floor is solid inlayed vinyl congoleum with no seams it is made to last 20 + years and a permanent underlayment when you decide to change designs. Use a floating floor expect to have to replace it in 5 to 10 years .

5 to 10 years is awfully generous. In reality, most will begin to funnel water to the sub floor within 3 years. Also, why this idiot thinks he is qualified to give any advice about either plumbing or flooring is beyond me. GREAT VIDEOS from an OLD INSTALLER. 50 years of installing every kind of flooring imaginable and some that were just plum crazy (cross-cut mesquite trees). Only 1 suggestion. Use expensive knee pads if a person is going to do very many floors. When you hit 70 you will be glad that you protected those knees.

I did recently finished a similar sized bathroom and will be doing a second one soon. I opted to start at the door to better go under the door trim. My rooms had a gap under the drywall so that provided for expansion and I filled with caulk backer and sealed it to the vinyl tiles. Then could use just baseboard at the wall, no quarter-round needed. I took care to seal the floor at all borders just in case to protect from water from an flood event, at least to give time to stop the water and soak it up. Otherwise water under the floor would be an issue.

Great video man! I'm getting ready to do this exact job myself and I have a pretty important question. I'm using vynil plank I have leftover from doing my basement. The reason I'm doing this to begin is that my upstairs bathroom caused some major issues when one of the kids overflowed it and it ran under the baseboard behind the toilet and out the kitchen ceiling below. I noticed you didn't use a membrane or anything along the walls. I'd definitely feel better trapping any water the gets where it shouldn't, in the bathroom. This is being installed over existing builder grade vynil roll out. Appreciate the videos! Nice work. Thank you in advance to anyone that replies. 🙏

My parents apartment had not had any leaks in 20 years when the tank on the toilet cracked from top to bottom when they were not at home. You might consider one of the sensor shut-off systems just in case something like that happens to your home. If the sensor detects water, a signal turns off water pressure to the house. Result - very little water on the floor and less chance of it getting under the floor.

Another trick to make life easier for this kind of job is you can apply an underlayment to level out the floor and add a little cushion. Works very well and save some time on floor prep work. Just make sure you get the stuff meant for bathroom and moisture control.

You should not press the silicone directly into the gap between vinyl an wall because silicone is not as compressible as needed. This might cause the floor to lift if the temperature rises, as the space for expansion is clogged by the silicone. There are special PE-cords of different diameters that can be pushed into the gap to fill it. After that the silicone is applied. That is of course only necessary in rooms where the floor is likely to get wet.

Thanks. I was not sure if the vanity should be sitting on the vinyl planking but I see it is ok. I am doing my bathroom and is not so easy when you have a lot of cuts. This stuff moves around and it is easy to damage the locking edges. The block can damage the edges and ruin your plank. I have seen others use a scrap piece of the planking that can lock into the edge you want to tap then they tap that scrap piece edge instead of the good edge. My bathtub is pushed in a bit in a couple of areas so not easy to have to plank look good along the tub. Did some calking between tub and plank last night so have to see how that holds up. Newbies will definitely ruin a few planks before getting the hang of this. Technically not difficult but definitely need to know the little tricks.

I don't know about the floatiing-floor LVT locking joints being moisture proof. Flooding is rarely a problem. Splashing and dripping is. You might have plywood water damage/mold/buckling after too long. BTW, huge fan of LVT. Used adhesive-set Karndean in two kitchen remodels. In our current house I used poly grout with 24x18 tiles. Everyone comments on it and then we tell them it is vinyl. 3 years rock solid.

The only concern I have is that you did put down any kind of water barrier on top the plywood you laid down. I know the vinyl tile are floating and water proof but the wood is not. I would have applied a membrane coating (eg RedGard) particularly around the tub area to protect water overflow from the tub or god forbid the toilet.

The orange Schluter Ditra membrane that was removed provided some waterproofing protection. Is it not required in your area to have a waterproofing membrane above that type of OSB/ particle board flooring?

Wonderful job. Please answer the questions: What is the material of these panels? Is water seeping through it? Is it resistant to the weight of furniture or washing machine? And thanks ... wait for your response.

I REALIZE BEING 2 MONTH OLD AND A FEW VIDEOS AWAY, YOU MAY NOT SEE THIS. BUT WANTED TO SAY I REALLY ENJOY YOUR VIDEOS. THEY HAVE BEEN TRULY INSPIRATIONAL AND MOTIVATING FOR ME AND MY CHANNEL. I'M CURIOUS DO YOU PLAN, FILM EDIT AND PRODUCE EVERYTHING ON YOUR OWN? OR DO YOU HAVE A TEAM? I THINK THE QUALITY AND LAYOUT ARE VERY DETAILED WITHOUT FILL CONTENT WE DON'T NEED. I'M NOT SURE HOW YOU SAY SO MUCH IN 2 MINUTES WITHOUT MISSING KEY INSTRUCTIONS. YOUR 2 MINUTE MARK IS MY 6 MINUTE MARK. I'M SURE THEY ARE JUST AS PLANNED OUT AS YOU COMPUTER FLOORING LAYOUT. GOOD STUFF MY MAN SEE YA ON THE NEXT ONE.

Is it bad to have the tile go under the drywall a little bit if the wall is crooked? There would still be room for the floor to expand as it wouldn’t be against the studs behind the drywall.

What about the toilet install? Do you set it and leave it or caulk around it? Wouldnt installing the toilet and vanity on top of the floor stop it from expanding?

We had a bathroom flood upstairs and the vinyl plank did nothing to protect the subfloor. Water leaked downstairs into our kitchen... Horrible situation. I will never install vinyl plank in a wet room again. Sticking with tile for all bathrooms and laundry rooms from now. Great job on the install BTW.

Is it okay to put the vanity ontop of the floating floor? It seems the general answer is "no", but I dont see how this is any different than having couch or tv stand or any other semi-heavy object on top of it.

I’m installing Great Lakes Vinyl Floors Urban Series tile. It has cut and beveled edges. Not cheap stuff but man, having heck of a time getting the tiles installed and tight to one another. Ie put in the long edge and it doesn’t wanna move at all twd locking into the short edge without a fair amount of force ie more hammering than tapping. Am I doing something wrong?
@JayZoop
@JayZoop 3 года назад
@@sf7147 Always read the manufacturer's installation instructions because not all locking systems are equal. Pay attention to the small little ribs on both sides and make sure the little ribs don't break.

@@sf7147 Looking at the installation instructions, there are Ribs. Attach long side then the short side should drop into place. Tap lightly. As a side note, pay attention that the very ends aren't breaking when tapping. I usually bow the piece slightly to help the end grooves set-in properly. I hope that makes sense.

Great install Brad! However, as other comments have noted, aren't you worried about water seepage through that vinyl? Also, wouldn't it have been better to screw the plywood down? Just curious...... Be well & stay safe....👍👍😉😉

Very helpful video thanks. We are needing a lot of work on our house to put it in the market and move . Lots of stuff we can't do ourselves so saving $$ on things we can. Your videos are so helpful. Probably an odd comment but - I was getting really frustrated trying to use the rubber mallet I bought with the block and pull bar. It was way larger than the one in your video. Bought the one in your list. Game changer! Finally got those seams looking good. Tried the design software for layout but apparently there's a reason I'm a tax accountant not a designer. Maybe you should do a training video for that. Thanks again.

You will need underlayment even if the tile has padding/cork if you are laying the tile on a cement subfloor.
