Surprised you are touting the saddle valve for the water supply to the frig. Rich, the plumber on This Old House, says they are a water disaster in waiting. I enjoy all your videos, especially the remodeling ones. I like it when you talk as you do the project.
I personally like your longer videos and your talking. It feels like your there being a helper. Plus when the videos are sped up sometimes i'm like "aw man.. I wanted to see that part!"
On the talk vs action question, I think this one was just right. Done many fridge water lines and thought this was going to put me to sleep, but nope. You talked/showed just the right mix. Good job.
You did a good job of doing both. You're great because you do what each job takes. They are all different! Why would any video be the same as any other. Keep varying things and love what you're doing. We love following!
Dad redid his kitchen. Put a braided line in for the fridge. 2 years later, pops a pinhole leak, he catches it after an hour. Not too big of a deal, some slight water damage, but mostly just running fans in his (finished and furnished) basement. Take two is this exact line. Little over a year after the install, it springs a pinhole leak. This time my folks are gone for the weekend. One $14,000 HOI claim later, and they now buy bags of ice and get water from the sink. It has likely scared me from ever putting in a line to my fridge!
Good work man. Been doing maintenance/construction for 7 years now. I'm now in charge of a decent size building in my area. I enjoy watching your videos, always something to learn. Very efficient my friend
I like it when you talk about what you are doing. I am learning how to fix things. I bought a new house that was inspected and given a great review. I have done nothing but repair things and unfortunately I can’t afford to hire someone to do it and every time I have had to do so because the work seemed to be over my head I have had to come back and do it right. Thanks for keeping me entertained as I learn jerky!!!!!
Dont listen to the trolls. Ive been subscribed for about 2 years now. It does seem like the trolls get under your skin a bit more now. You have a successful channel and continue with what got you here. Responding to the troll comments probably wasnt one of the reasons. You have a lot of knowledge and we are lucky you share it with us. We all know there are many ways to do many things.
I think your videos are fine the way you produce them. They’re real, informative and entertaining. I hope you enjoy making them as much as we like watching them
Excellent job and you showed and explained all the important steps. And I know about CPVC...I have that stuff in my place. I was just turning a shutoff valve under my sink and the pipe cracked and I had the shutoff suddenly in my hand and water spraying in my face lol Talk about running to find the whole house shutoff...
Felt like the perfect amount of talking. Its better to talk about what and how you are doing things when you talk during filming verses doing a voice over. Keep up explaining when able.
I think you should do what you want. It is your channel and creativity that brought us all here. I did like the flow of the bathroom remodel where you talk and work. Then sometimes you take us step by step through the job.
Great video, as always. You can find a two-sized replacement (JobSmart Dual Drive Spud Ratchet with Hammerhead) at your local Tractor Supply store. I have two of them and use them all the time.
I've been using the cobalt bits for years, always from Dewalt because I've been able to find them on sale. I'm sure the Milwaukee are equally good. Definitely worth the extra $ over the standard "titanium" bits.
I watch you channel for your style, editing and dialect. The voice over videos eliminates the slap stick humor, tips that present themselves at that time, as well as the references to each tool you are using and where they can be purchased. With that being said-your knowledge of home repair, your level of professionalism, and integrity could use a refresher course. J/k! Awesome channel and look forward to the next live hangout.
For me it's fine. My wife watches and likes the speed ups. She really enjoys your videos she is a nerd and loves things like this. She ripped out and installed a dishwasher all by herself. She also did disposal. She's pretty good with a wrench.
I wished you had used a wrench on the elbow while you were loosening the water line and talking about how brittle the CPVC was. The elbow is squared so you can put a wrench on it while tightening or loosening. That would be good advise for those that are not very experienced in doing this type of work.
Just discovered your videos, really liking them so far. I'm sure someone has said it before, but you sound like R2D2 when you whistle on fast forward. :)
Your talking is always helpful and informative professor. The small details always help like when you cleaned up the threads on those metal connectors. Is that toothpaste looking stuff you put on the threads any better than plumbers tape?
I enjoyed the new video format. Learned a lot about water lines. Now about pex piping. How reliable are those shark bites that cost an arm and a leg (pun insteaded).
What do you think about installing a filter on the water line before the fridge? In the past I've noticed my ice maker ice tasting a bit janky over time. I feel like a filter might be the cure.
My refrigerator water line was the source of a pinhole leak that killed some of my ceiling tiles downstairs. I wasn't aware a plastic pipe could have a pinhole leak, but it happened. It looks like steam was coming out of it it was so tiny.
Could use tips for selecting and navigating how/where to drill through floors/walls to run line. We have existing shut off connection/valve. Line wasn’t here when we moved in and no line or hole upstairs in kitchen. Help!
Hey i bought a refrigerator used. And i got the water to work (New filter) and I'm using the same type of fitting plastic hose like yours BUT my ice maker isn't making ice. Any suggestions? (It's all programmed to make ice and the on and off switch is flipped in the on position inside the ice maker) It will dispense ice b/c I put some bagged ice in there and it works fine dispensing it BUT not making it. Where to start...? Thanks!
So sorry for this long ass comment....try not to make ‘em this long....but, was a great vid w/ lots of knowledge & info for us. Do like when talk to us as you’re going along with the job(install). Have many reasons why prefer talk as you go, rather than voiceovers, it for kicks n giggles....here’s one: while your in the moment doing the job, issues that come up or things you think of are more natural, flowing.....& we can see it as you go, especially if have an issue, or it’s as smooth as silk (lol). Voiceovers are great for some projects (or some types of vids), but sometimes might not remember why did something afterwards (especially if editing a vid days/weeks later), or, just might not be into “the voiceover”; want to get video/project done....& get it out(not that you’d do that, not being facetious here, honest). So, prefer on the fly, in the moment, talking to us in the vids....just can’t replicate the fun, knowledge, reactions, etc....when doing a voiceover as well......in my opinion, of course😊 10:29 This insert is kinda similar to the PEX inserts that need to use depending on brand/type. My rule of thumb....If manufacturers include/have them....I’d go ahead and use ‘em😁 12:30 Absolutely love when manufacturers have the backplate on fridges (appliances) made out of metal. It’s so much more durable, & makes life easier for service calls, etc.... Can not stand, when go into a house & pull the fridge out & the back panel is made out of card stock🤬 (have even seen corrugated cardboard before). It’s just plain stupid, annoying, & always ends up falling off or ripping. Why, just why 😂 Thanks for the vid Handyman, this house you’ve been working on is looking great. Gonna be awesome when completed👍🏻 Cheers✌🏼
That is the case will all water shut offs that are not taken care of. Every kitchen and bathroom I have remodeled the water shutoffs no longer shut the water off.
Just say no to saddle valves! Illegal in many states as they corrode the copper piping and when it fails, you will have a major clean up and repair bill. Insurance doesn't want to pay out claims for this! I didn't know I had one but now I do and will be changing it myself. Not to mention, the water flow is slow.. it takes my water dispenser 45 seconds to fill a 12 ounce glass. This is about to change! I am redoing my water intake system from the pipe! I will use a compression connection at the pipe to connect the tubing to the fridge. Never done it before but I have youtube!
