How to cycle a tank instantly? Already have a cycled tank! 😫
@xXkamaXxKazi
@xXkamaXxKazi 3 года назад
Not all lfs will give you a cycled sponge filter or media for that matter but something I’ve learned is if you scope out there plants and look for the plants with new growth meaning it’s been in there tank for a few weeks, you can buy the plants and add them in, don’t get rid of the material that encases the root system of the plants and add this into your hang on the back filter. If you are using a sponge filter then just allow a few of the plants to remain in the pot and the material. The material will contain a lot of the bacteria you need for your tank. Hope this helps jump start your tank

@@MichaelsFishRoom I had one java fern from Petco in the tank. The tank also had a plenum. I thought this was strange and wondered if you had heard anything like it before. Right now in the same tank I have 28 small java ferns growing out, one betta, three rasboras, and five RCS. My ammonia is .5ppm, Nitrite 10ppm, and Nitrate at 20ppm. I think it is spiking a little due to the massive amounts of cocoapods in the tank. I can't think of any other reason for the spikes. I mean it looks like sea monkeys on a breeding program gone wrong.

I have a 40 gal with about 12 fish. It’s been healthily established for a couple years now. I just bought a 125 gal last week. I have 2 200 gph filters on the 40 so I grabbed a sponge out of one of them, grabbed the log, some coral decorations and both intake sponge covers. Slapped them all into my 125 which has an FX4. I also threw in some bio rings I had in one of the filters. So the 125 is cycled. But like you said, I’ll be patient and add a couple fish per week to be safe. And believe me patience is hard man, I want them all in there now!! But I’m doing it right. Thank you for your brain bro, has helped me tremendously. I used to have a 5 gallon now I’m successfully at a 125 and it’s beautiful, thanks again!

I did something similar with my summer tub. I had some gravel in it. I took a sponge filter from a well established tank and squeezed it into the tub pond, all the dirty gunk. Instant cycle of the tub and no issues. I've done the same for new sponge filters, squeezed a dirty sponge filter from an established tank onto the new sponge and then put it into the new tank. Instant cycle. Of course starting with a small bio load of just a few fish. But never had an issue doing this. 😊

Hello, I have a question, if I move my established canister and some of my substrate from a 43 liter tank to a 67 liter tank but keep the same amount of fish and shrimp, does it count as instant cycle? Should I keep my weekly water changes as usual or I should be doing more frequent water changes for a couple of weeks?

It will be instant cycled yes. I would change water at a predescribed nitrate level.

Hi Michael, I've recently setup a 29g (No fish) and used a sponge filter from a friends 120g. Do you recommend squeezing it out into the tank so that gunk gets spread throughout the system and into my HOB? Or is my thought process about it wrong? Thanks in advance!

I am learning how to take care of an aquarium. I had her set in an Aquaponics system and she did ok. My uncle brought me a 100 gallon tank and I moved her over to it not knowing that there is a whole new world of taking care of her now. I have a butterfly Koi that is now 20 inches long. She got real sick and I had no clue at first why. I went Petsmart and well that was a waste of time. I then went to what I thought would be a good place to get some answers. That was a waste of time as well. I came in panic still and started reading and researching you gave me great advice by watching your video’s and learning how to take care of my baby girl... Thanks again for all you do. I never even knew about guppy’s and how many varieties there are. I will be ordering in the near future from you.

My condolences for your experience at PetStupid. Do you have an aquarium specific store around your neighborhood? That would be a good source of info as well as a great products and fish. My last experience at PetStupid (key operative word here is *last*) was unpleasant as well. Such big box pet stores are good sources of hardware items, like pumps, tanks, filters and heaters, but lousy sources of "wetware" like fish, plants or live food.

I used 2 sponge filters one small and one large from an 5 month old established 20 gallon tank aswell as a piece of chola wood that was in there. I setup up a new 10 gallon tank with it and let it run for about a week and a half. I have some water lettuce moss balls and java moss in there with 12 cherry shrimp. They seem to healthy constantly grazing and swimming from one side of the tank to the other looking for hot spots of algae. Ive had them for about a week now and no deaths a few molts and they constantly graze. Ive noticed 1 or 2 male shrimp would swim to the surface and nose dive for about an hour after that they go on about their day grazing and hiding. Is this normal behavior? Or has my tank failed at instant cycling? Also how much water would you recommend changing? And how often thank you.

Good info Mike! I just had my 29 gallon tank spring a leak during the night. I woke up to 3/4 of my water missing & my corys & tetras scrambling around the tank. What a nightmare..Aqueon is reimbursing me for the tank.Gee thanks. So I went a got a 20 gallon long, added EXTRA silicone around the seams, set it up with new eco-complete gravel and sand substrate & the same plants I had from the old tank. I'm using the same large sponge filter & canister filter from my old tank in this new tank. I let it run for 24 hours and added just the corys. Tomorrow I'll move the red-eye tetras & a couple of neons. I'm thinking the tank should be fine as far as cycling goes, just as long as I keep an eye on the ammonia & nitrates, and do water changes every few days. I was worried about ammonia spiking, but I think there's enough beneficial bacteria on the large sponge, canister filter & plants to keep the tank healthy. What do you think? This is a first for me...I never had to setup a tank so fast.

If I take ornaments out of the cycled tank (which have been in there for a while) and put them in my new tanks (I.e small terracotta pots I’ve left in there as caves) , does this also work in some way or does only a sponge filter work?

If you're moving all of your fish to the new tank just put the biological media from the current filter into the new tank's filter. It is already supporting the bio load. Use all new water and treat for chlorine/chloromine. Give it a little time for the water conditioner to work, and the tank temperature to stabilize prior to introducing the fish and filter media.
