There's no reason this couldn't be used over *any* concrete slab floor, right? My home has no basement. I always wondered if the regular pink panels would work or not, just use a router, guide, and shallow v-groove bit... But I've never gotten to the point of finding out because I only planned to experiment when it was time to replace my floor. Great video, and inspiring. Looking forward to any future related stuff that you share. Thank you! 👍👍

I definitely recommend people to install some kind of basement insulation, but the problem with most panels like these is they provide a measly R3... get some sheets of extruded polystyrene, with R5 or R7.5, put some plywood on top, and screw it all down with concrete screws, and then you'll have some real insulation, and it probably won't be much more expensive.

They really should of doubled up the thickness of this panel... They only reasons I don't want to do coventional polystrene is the lower psi and cost of plywood.

I bought Traffic Master peel and stick vinyl to put down on my concrete basement floor. Do I need to put a sub floor like that down first? Or do I need to stick it to a sheet of 3 mil plastic for insulation? Please help.

Mr Maxwell, i am also wondering if this can work on top of a encapusalted crawlspace floor with out covering the foam? as i only use the crawlspace for my house pump and filters and some light storage. And depending on Price might even be worth applying to the crawlspace walls for extra insulation.

@tim_yrt

per the instruction pdf you will need plywood or OSB boards to spread the weight on top because carpet is soft and does not spread weight.
@ballerina6179
@ballerina6179 Год назад
@@tim_yrt but do you have to use 2x4 sleepers also or can you just lay plywood down on top of it? I have the pdf and it says to screw down every other board to the cement floor and a screw in the center and then you can put the carpet tacking strips into the perimeter.

@@ballerina6179 sorry I'm not an expert, still haven't started my project yet. I'm pretty sure the PDF meant to screw down any weight spreading substrate with the insul-armor. Hope you can make it before the carpet installation.

@ballerina6179 Год назад
@@tim_yrt yes you’re right. Omg. The FAQs on the big box store site had a link to the pdf but it was for the Dricor small panels that already have OSB on them- not the insularmor big panels which have a better R value and the ones I used. Now I have to borrow a pickup truck and hope they’ll make the cuts I need to properly stagger the joints and fit it in my room. I could cry right now. The only good thing is I have an unopened box of insularmor to return.

Can you use this on concrete or wood floor in bedrooms or kitchen??
@jefffawcett
@jefffawcett Год назад
Supporting 3650 pounds per square foot is only 25.3 lbs/sq inch. So I’m assuming that can only be used underneath a subfloor you couldn’t put carpeting directly on top of it for example. As soon as you sat down on a chair you’d crush it
@WeGoWalk
@WeGoWalk 3 года назад
You fail to address, properly, the absolute need to be sure that the concrete is completely sealed so that there is no moisture migration from below the concrete up to the floor surface even before these panels are installed. The truth is that if the concrete floor is not 100% sealed, that ANY moisture that migrates up through the concrete, underneath these panels, WILL generate mold growth. And the mold WILL out gas and will cause issues with the indoor air quality. I was a court reporter who took verbatim testimony in many construction cases where moisture migration through concrete floors was trapped and created dangerous mold issues. It is absolutely IMPERATIVE that the surface of your concrete floor is first completely sealed off from any moisture migration BEFORE installation of any sort of subfloor material on top of that concrete floor.

@@bruceli6770 Sealing concrete completely in an older house is next to impossible. I would approach this as follows: waterproof the walls outside with blueskin membranę and platon display membranę, then insulate with exterior Type of panels. Replace the weeping tile and wrap it and the fresh stone around it with a lifetime warranted landscape fabric to prevent silt from build up. Do radon testing for 3 months in the winter. Radon is the second leading case of lung cancer, but most people are blissfully unaware of this. Seal wall and slab hints with caulking, install radon mitigation system if necessary. Frame walls with steel studs, isolate them from concrete at least by using a sill gasket. Do not use fiberglass insulation or polyethylene vapor retarder in the walls. Then use Platon dimple membrane on landscape fabric to prevent clicking, your choice of foam insulation and plywood. And here is the trick: cut a few fake registers to expose the concrete in few places. This will allow any moisture to evaporate. Potentially you could bring a branch of duct to blow air under the floor, but this might be a bit of an overkill. A good idea would be to redirect all duct outlets to terminate right above the floor. Newer houses built after 1995 will already have a reasonable exterior waterproofing in place, so this expensive project can be avoided.

from your earlier video's you say that closed foam works better for water repelling. So is this a closed foam format and would it work well against the outer wall? with vinly siding finish? Also where is this in Ontario and how does this compare in price?

I'm curious. I have a full size 4 x 8 slate pool table. Do you think the foam would accept this wieght or would you just leave the area where the pool table sits as concrete and work around it?

Hi Bob! That's a great question and I wondered about this like this, too. I made a second video after this one, and I includes a torture test where I drove over these foam panels with my pickup truck, first with hard-surface flooring on top, then driving directly over the bare foam. You can see the results at this link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HtYoDYL-fy0.html Let me know if I can be more help. Bye for now and thanks for watching! Steve

I have luxury vinyl flooring in my bedroom, which is in a basement apartment. However, we didn't put a subfloor under it, the store told us you don't need one if you're using flooring and not carpet. But now I've learned that you need a subfloor even if it's hard flooring. Fortunately the floor is floating and not fastened with an adhesive. What do you suggest I do now? Perhaps some day I should pursue taking the floor up and putting down a subfloor and then putting the floor back down.

According to the installation instructions, if installing hardwood, laminate or LVP, the installation instructions say you can install the flooring right on top. If installing carpet, you will need OSB to spread the load of furniture going on top.
