How to Interpret Your Lab Work Like a Doctor
When you go to the doctor to get your blood work one thing that is often included is a basic metabolic panel or renal panel. That tells you how your kidneys, electrolytes and everything is functioning in your body in one report. In this week's video I want to give you some clues and information on how to interpret these readings at home. Oftentimes this report will come to you before your doctor or physician's assistant is able to look over it, so it is important to have a basic understanding of what is included.
The basic metabolic panel consists of 7 blood test results. Today we will cover those results and a few bonus readings as well. Watch now to find out more.

Working as a kidney doctor, I found that my patients were often unaware of just how important diet and lifestyle were and how often they felt unsupported by generic advice to “eat healthy”. The home cook in me hated hearing this, so I set out to find a better way.
I began to combine my medical training and love of food, making videos of simple recipes that were based on science and packed with flavor. Instead of just saying “eat healthy” to my patients, I could give them the resources they needed to make a real difference in their health.
Kidney doctor, passionate home cook, and RU-vid sensation Dr Blake Shusterman empowers people to proactively manage their health by stepping into the kitchen. The author of several cookbooks with over 100,000 RU-vid subscribers, The Cooking Doc® believes anyone, at any age can transform their health with small changes that make a big difference. Based on science and packed with flavor, Dr. Blake’s simple recipes have inspired home cooks everywhere to change their diet, retrain their taste buds, and transform their health.

Well now I have to look at my results again and see if I can figure out now as all the results are listed under initials instead of actually spelled out. But everything is listed in this exact order then I'm in luck.

There aren't many videos on intermittent fasting (such as fasting 18:6, 20:4, 24 hours, etc., while drinking non-caloric beverages). I find it very helpful in controlling the ridiculous amount of inflammation I have from rheumatoid arthritis and possibly lupus, it helps me take fewer corticosteroids, but I don't want to damage my kidneys even further. It would be interesting to hear your opinion on it.

If (theoretically) one’s eGFR calculated from createnine is 59 but eGFR from cystatin-c is 85 all other blood and urine markers perfect … should this theoretical person just use eGFR/cyctatin-c from now on?.

Then you go to a hospital in UK and with out of range high levels of creatinine, albumin, bilirubin and out of range low levels of Haematocrit, MCH and more they say it's all okay, we don't know why you are in pain, go home, if you are still in pain in a couple weeks ask your General Practitioner if they think you need to do more tests.....
