My portfolio has a bit of both: spy 500 ETF with SCHD and JEPI, and then a large mix of dividend paying stocks. (I also have some growth stock and crypto in the mix, but planning to sell some of that)
Even though I love stock picking and owning individual shares of stocks of company I love and use everyday, I still go with a hybrid approach with a core satellite strategy built around ETF, with my main position being SCHD, but then I round it up with VYM, VYMI, VTI and VEA, with a sprinkle of JEPI, and the around 30 individual stocks that supplement yield (like MO) and dividend growth (like CTAS and MSCI) all measured based on SCHD as a dividend metric benchmark… so far so good and projections based on my time horizon look optimistic… thanks for sharing Ryne!

I do have MMM and O in my portfolio, I’ve been researching on ZIM, love the yield but I’m concerned about consistency and reliability over time due to their business and dividend model, but still have them on my watch list to maybe get in for short term cash flow… I do it similarly for stocks like HTGC, TRIN and even JEPI… but in smaller portions…
I'm going with the hybrid model because I like the monthly EFT pay out and I also enjoy looking into companies. I got my base just about done, I'm going to add a couple more individual positions, then begin buying what I have built. I got my base to a dividend payout every month. Now it's a matter of reaching mile stones. I'm doing small goals so it's not overwhelming. This 10k portfolio build you have here is a new goal of mine. I'd like to get to 10k in the next 5 years, and this should be doable and I'll probably do it sooner, but like I said. I'm setting my goals small at first.
Hey brother do you think it’s a worth it to invest majority of my dividend investment in a taxable brokerage account rather than a Roth IRA if I want to get the money for when I’m around 50? Currently 25
Do the Roth IRA for sure, that’s also known as a Qualified account. Understand you are taxed on your Dividends. Huge difference you are asking about. Good luck
If you plan to retire early and live off those dividends then a brokerage account is probably best for you. The ROTH IRA you can’t touch till you’re 59 1/2 yrs old. I still do a ROTH IRA but out most into my brokerage account because I plan on using it when I hit 50. I’m 40 now. I still max out my ROTH every year as well.

Great content! Iam from Europe so a little bit different investing for us. I put : All world etf (60% USA stocks) SCHD and i wanna put couple dividend stocks in the mix. I think put extra O and JPM. Maybe your opinion? Good luck with channel!!!
After watching the perfect 10 stocks and rewatching this video. My question is : i made a “perfect 15” stock protfolio and i plan on investing 150$ a week. Would it be smart to evenly distribute that 10$ into each stock each week? Or build one or a couple stocks up at a time? Or maybe build a stable 10 stock rotation and save the remaining 50$ for any potential dips/deals on a stock? Would love your feedback you have taught me alot in my young investing career and i owe you what i hope to be a very great future for myself and family. Thank you my friend! To be honest, I think you could really go either way with that. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer. However, an even DCA distribution every week would be the simplest approach
Recognia (information used by Fidelity that rates future strength of a stock/etf) doesn’t speak too highly of the mid term and long term outlook for SCHD. Short term it’s great. I wonder what their thinking is on SCHD long term and why they rate it so poorly!
You can use Acorns. I think that's a great place to start for those looking to get into investing. I started investing with Acorns as well. I first went with Acorns, then I moved to Stash, then Robinhood, and now I use Charles Schwab haha
@Erin Howardson Just my recommendation for investing into which type of accounts: firstly, contribute into your company 401k at least up to the amount that will maximize your company contribution (preferably into Roth 401k if offered). Secondly, contribute to your personal Roth IRA. Max out this Roth yearly if possible. You'll thank yourself years later when you have a nice big account for retirement that is 100% tax-free. Thirdly, contribute any other discretionary money you may have into a brokerage account.
@TJ Thanks for the great advice TJ! I started up my own biz so no more employer 401k match for me, but I've always done that and have maxed out my Roth each year too! I have $$ with a financial planner and I'm learning that paying 1% to him is costing me a fortune so I'm in the process of taking it from him and getting into ETFs. I appreciate your comments.
Here’s a question (one which you may have already answered, I just haven’t seen the video on it) : say a person receives an inheritance and is within 10 yrs of retirement. What kind of portfolio would you create to generate the most dividends from said inheritance. For the sake of argument let’s say the inheritance was $200,000. Let me also preface this by saying that I understand that this is not financial advice and is just your opinion!! Thanks!
If someone inherited that and wanted somewhere safe to park it, I'd probably just go the ETF route and rock with something like SCHD. What would you do?
@@rynewilliams I’d probably want to diversify etfs a little more than just SCHD. I may even want to put it into some good individual dividend paying stocks. I’m a balance guy like I mentioned in a comment in a previous video. I like to balance growth with dividend income production. I always like to get opinions of specific style investors like yourself or growth investors or even say mutual fund investors. I take that information, do my own research, and then use that for any future investments! This particular scenario hasn’t presented itself to me but it might and I am always one that likes to prepare before the day comes! Thanks!!
