Hey William, excellent question. So, in an SA context, the first R 23 800 is tax free if you're under the age of 65. After that your normal tax rate applies. For ETFs and stocks, it's a bit more complicated. If your intention is investing, you get R40k p.a. tax free, and after that, 40% of profits is taxable at your normal tax rates. If you're buying and selling often then the full amount is taxable at your normal tax rate. Note that with dividends, there is a 20% tax, that is deducted before you receive it.
