In cricut design space, I duplicate the piece and then contour out all of the items I don't want to cut

I must be doing something wrong. I managed to separate the file and transferred it to a usb, but it doesn’t appear when I plug it in to my scan n cut. File is there when I plug usb into my computer though. 😝
