How to Jailbreak your Lenovo ThinkPad T430 - WI-FI Whitelist, Advanced Menu, Overclocking!

Hello Viewers, Today i bring a tutorial on how to Jailbreak your T430, You may do this say if you are attempting to remove the WI-FI Whitelist or to enable special Overclocking options or to get access to the special Advanced Menu in the BIOS!
Well how do i do this?
You'll need to be on BIOS Version 2.64 or older to do this on a T430, If you are not, i do have a video explaining how to downgrade to it as Lenovo's 2.64 Installer will throw errors at you if you was to try and 'downgrade' to an older version from a newer BIOS. You can find that video here:

You'll also need a memory stick that can hold 2GB and your BIOS MUST be in UEFI Mode or this will NOT work.
F12 - Boot Men
F1 - Bios
Make sure under Startup that UEFI Only and CSM are Enabled or this will likely not work. Secure boot is preferred to be disabled.

A bit of clarification on the EC flash: 1vyrain doesn't touch the EC, so if you want to do the 7 rows keyboard mod, you'd have to first run 1vyprep to downgrade your BIOS, then do Hamish Coleman's EC mod, then 1vyrain. If you do the BIOS mod before the EC mod, the latter will remove your custom BIOS and you'll have to re-flash 1vyrain.

Thank you! Is was going to do it the hard way, so glad I don't have to. 3740qm running at 3.9ghz all core now - performance is noticeably better in stellaris and anno 1800 (with gtx 970 egpu via expresscard)

@NYCfactor I do have the delta fan, it can get toasty (~90 degrees at full load), but most applications I use utilise only a core or 2, so it stays around 80. Bought some liquid metal, but have yet to apply it. I'll let you know if its worth it

@@bukizzz I bought an 1080p ips display with adapter off ebay, kb is azerty backlit - there is a fingerprint reader (I doubt well have the exact same, but pretty close still :D) oh and I used liquid metal, took 10 degrees off

Worked like a charm on my t530! Also just want to note that you don't need to reinstall windows in UEFI mode if you hadn't done so before the mod. You can simply boot into the 1vyrain flash drive in UEFI mode, then get in the bios after that and roll it back to "both" or "legacy only" if you had set it up that way.

Thanks. Now I can upgrade my WiFi to AC. This also unlocked the bluetooth on my old WiFi card. I didn't know it had bluetooth because Lenovo disabled it.

I'm using a t430u and I am using Rufus.. However the target system keeps switching to uefi non csm and your example has bios selected...as soon as I select the iso it switches from bios as a target to uefi.... Any ideas

Thank you. Your tut helped me to to use 1vyrain on my T530. As far as downgrading the BIOS is concerned , there's a tool called 1vyprep which makes it a lot easier to downgrade it. Which Wifi Card did you put into yours? I am looking for a mac compatible card siince I am running macOS in it.

Im looking to do this on my x230. Im on 2.60 bios 1.13ec. Now the thinkpad-ec patch asks to be on 2.75 bios 1.14 ec to patch work. After i upgrade to 2.75bios 1.14EC to apply EC patch, i can downgrade bios to make the 1vyrain bios unlock? Thank you.

The advanced bios setting is huge rabbit hole... And most of the features don't enhance the performance and is incorporated just for marketing reasons. But if you are interested evga has quite large portion of advanced setup features explained

Any ideas if the system won't boot at all? After changing to UEFI only etc I can't select and boot up from any of the options...usb/SSD. But if I revert back to UEFI/ Legacy =both then boot up is as normal. This is the 2nd time I'm doing this but not sure why it's not working this time...

Hi I followed your instruction succesfully until I flashed the modified bios into flash drive. When I tried to boot via that flash drive (containing the patch) it won't boot :( and show some error do you have idea why?? Thank you (I downgraded the BIOS already from 2.82)

I've recently read that the Jailbreak doesn't remove the Battery whitelist for everyone unfortunately. Seems to be a 50/50 chance.

I can't see why it can't be, however it is a very risky thing to do as if you have a power cut or lose power it will be game over for your ThinkPad

Thanks for the tutorial. Too bad it won't allow the 7 row keyboard mod. Edit: Fortunately the keyboard mod can be done with thinkpad-ec mod (flash embedded controller) before applying 1vyrain. They do not interfere with each other

@South Bucks Transport can u help with on modifying the PCI-ID of the wlan card to match the authorized one? instead of removing the whitelist i have Thinkpad Edge (Machine Type 0578) think thats a Thinkpad Edge 14 (E40) . ive tried to find a bios for it, and have not been able to. even on lenovo . com

No it doesn't removed the battery whitelist. You still need to flash the EC separately for that.

Everything is working fine. However I was not able to find the option to change the BIOS time and date. I am having some issues with my backup battery and the system keeps asking me to adjust the BIOS time and date. Can you give me the instructions to get the date and time changed within BIOS?

I got recently a used T430 and used 1vyrain to unlock the bios. I was happily using it for about 2 weeks, until I realized that I don't have Intel VT-x enabled in the bios. I rebooted and enabled it, but when I try to load a VM, I get the same message (VT-x: (disabled in BIOS)). I checked again, and it is effectively disabled! Trying to re-enable Intel VT-x, I accidentally enabled/disabled another option (don't remember its name, but it is on the processor configuration). Reboot, only black screen. I thought that removing the bios battery would reset it to its default settings. But after removing/re-inserting it, my T430 only beeps (3-1-1-3), which according to the hardware maintenance manual, it is 'Three short beeps,pause,one short beep,pause,one more short beep,pause,and three short beeps' which corresponds to 'Remove the installed PCI devices', I'm not sure what does that mean, but I did not install any new PCI device! I did the classical procedures, removing battery/ram/etc... Nothing helps. Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi thanks for your videos, I just get PR1,PR2,PR3,PR4 warnings "At least some flash regions are read protected". The mod then goes on not to work. I have T430 G1ETA4WW 2.64 Bios installed. I have "an active ME" Mangement Engine??

Lenovo Thinkpad X230. What is the difference between of these images "1vyrain.iso (257M)" and "1vyrain_rev1.rar (588M)". I have tried both, but no one was a success. In beginning and till where appearing makes "FLASH MODIFIED LENOVO BIOS" was OK, but then go an error and it continues nonstop, only switches off pressing a button of power off. So what is wrong? Could you advice what can I attempt to make for success jailbreak.

No whitelist on the CPU. You can just replace it directly as long as it's ivybridge.

ok for the record I decided I'd try and if I couldnt get to boot reinstall or switch to uefi partition. (see below comment )the first boot it said something about uefi and went to bios w/advanced menu, the second booted into my system. Thank you sincerly. Now I'm ready to pop my wifi card in!!! Ok edit- wifi card is working and speeds have increased dramatically. Thank you, I bought this card back in 2018 after installing coreboot but when going to Windows for destiny 2 I put the original back on. Anyway this was my last step making this machine pure beast 💪 mode. I have SSD with caddy for add. 16gbs ram I have four core chip with upgraded power supply and dock. 1080 IPS screen with adapter.
