WHAT IS DNS 1-year Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) is a pre-sea training course approved by Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) and affiliated to Indian Maritime University (IMU). The pre-sea course consists of two semesters, each semester being 6 months of duration. Having completed the course, cadets are required to undergo Structured Shipboard Training Programme (SSTP) which consists 18 months of on-board training … Minimum sea time for cadetship is 18months but some Companies will make you do more than 18months. No need to worry because you will gain more experience. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR DNS EDUCATIONAL CRITERIA Senior School Certificate/ Higher Secondary Examination/ Class XII/ 10+2 From a recognized Board/ University with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), with not less than 65% marks in PCM and 60% aggregate/ B.Sc in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with Physics As individual subject in one of the year, with an average of not less than 60% marks in the final year, from a recognized University provided that the candidate must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognized Board : [10+2 PCM > 60%] B.E./ B.Tech. degree with average of not less than 60% In the final year from I.I.T. or from a college recognized by AICTE/ UGC, provided that the candidate must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognized Board : [10+2 PCM > 60%] AGE CRITERIA Age Limit The minimum age should be 17 yrs and maximum age should be 25 yrs on the date of commencement of course (Course usually commences on 1″Feoruary and 1′ August during every year). Relaxation of 5 years is available for SC/ST candidates and 2 years for Girl candidates. ENGLISH MARKS are as important as PCM% Should have obtained not less than 60% marks in English as a separate subject, at either 10th or 12th standard or in the Degree course conducted by a recognized Board/ University. Physical and Medical Standards Physically fit and should meet the medical requirements as specified by DG Shipping guidelines, 6/6 eyesight without visual aids and no colour blindness. When we are off duty that means we are on holidays, are those leaves paid leaves or unpaid leaves? Like, we are on holiday for at least 2-3 months depending upon the time we served on a particular ship. Do we get any salary during our holidays or its just unpaid leave? please do reply, sir. Would you recommend going for Merchant Navy (deck side) after pursuing a B.Tech ? I am currently in 7th semester of B.Tech & will graduate by July/August 2021. Can you give a short guide ?
It all depends upon your interest. If you are interested about the prospects of seeing the world and doing hard work, do come to this field. Secondly, after doing b.tech, it is better to go for engine side. You could proceed on with courses like GME or ETO depending upon the stream you have chosen. Considering that you might be 22 when you complete b.tech, age is a barrier to pursue nautical science ( for deck side) as companies mostly prefer less than 21. Cheers mate!
If you want to pursue a career in Merchant Navy by doing GP Rating course do that course from Great Eastern or TS Rehman or Nusi Goa and take placement with your own and get an experience of at least 12-24 months and then apply in Maersk

In DNS there are 1 year course . In one course there are 6 month course before Deck cadet and after complete 18 month pre sea traning then after 2 semester you want to give exam for 2 mate officer in merchant Navy. It is true or not. . . . Please reply 🙏
Sir, In December 2020 i became 23 years old and will be complete my btech in march 2023 at 25 years old, as you can see only the month december i became 26 yeas of old so am I belongs to the eligible age limit for the courses if I continue this way , Sir please reply I am confused

Sponsorship is basically for DNS course. Sponsorship is offered by various shipping companies. It doesn't mean that they would sponsor you. It means that upon completing your 1 year pre-sea training, you would be guaranteed 18 months on board by the company. Nextly, you will have to apply to the shipping companies and give their test followed by interview.
And sir why many people are leaving merchant navy now days ?…Many of them said that they will never back again..why people are having bad experience on board ?
