Hi Heather, thanks for your question. I personally didn’t. I used the main colour for joining. This meant that the joining yarn was visible at the corners of the squares but I felt that added a nice detail to the pattern. However, if you prefer you could join with the contrast yarn so it matches and doesn’t show at the corners. Hope that helps! Xx
