I was expecting a certain ritual, or something. I never expected the Unbreakable Vow, because if they did that, Snape would’ve died, considering he joined Voldemort willingly, and then suddenly joins Dumbledore after learning about the prophecy. Why DIDN’T they do that? Wouldn’t that be easier? That way, if they ever think about defecting, they wouldn’t have to worry about killing them, because the effects of the vow would do that FOR them. @HarryPotterTheory
@@maximillian875 Voldemort was powerful, but also arrogant, so I would imagine that he felt that his skill in Legiimency would be sufficient enough to ensure that there would be no defectors. If he REALLY wanted to be safe, an unbreakable vow would have been a smart choice.
Harry Potter Theory I forgot about that part of him. He may have been arguably the most powerful wizard - let alone DARK wizard - but he never admitted his limits. Not even to himself.

I think the only ones really not making it in are spies attempting to do what Snape did. I think if someone who wants to join is already purely evil at heart. An undercover Auror though may be taking a huge risk. I think a fully chambered revolver sans one bullet.
The reasons stated for why Voldemort wanted Slughorn are indeed true, however, I think there's more to it. Who's the one who gave Voldemort the confirmation of what he already knew about Horcruxes? Slughorn. I think Voldemort acknowledged that Slughorn knew so much and had potential, but Voldemort may have been terrified that Slughorn would let Dumbledore in on the secret (and it was a correct assumption). I think the *true* reason Voldemort wanted Slughorn is because he didn't want his Horcrux secret getting out
I think he Slughorn was the closest person as a father figure to Voldemort. Slughorn would of been a huge asset as a Death Eater with his wealth of knowledge. I think Voldemort wouldnt fear his secret was out because he would feel confident where his horcruxes were hidden and protected and where to start to even find them as they can be anything.
I can’t imagine Slughorn thought Riddle was going to actually be able to do it no matter how talented he was as a wizard, which was of course an underestimation.

There is a problem about making sure Slughorn would never talk. He would have died decades before Harry was born, had Voldemort really cared. He would have silenced him before the start of the first war. As his former favorite, he would have had access to him.
The Dark Mark is also used for Tom to track down any & all with said mark. The mark burns intensely when Tom summons them until they arrive wherever Tom is at the time of the summons. There is no way to remove the mark except chopping off the arm above the mark.

Riddle‘s mother not just abandoned him out of free will or something. Right after his birth she lived only long enough to name him and then died. I mean the outcome is the same, he hasn’t a mother, but still. She didn’t abandon him.

Not sure; take a look at The Great Wizarding War series. Luthor Frumentar was a Death Eater or a spy. Episode 9 ends with him visiting Dumbledore like he was an agent all along? It's confusing to me. Frumentar is Broad Stoke OC (other character). During James and Lily's final year at Hogwarts he taught Defense Against the Dark Arts. According to the Snape and the Marauders Movie Frumentar apparently taught his students how to start and how to extinguish Fiendfyre as the Marauders used it on Snape and then extinguished it.
I believe for this you need to take into account also Draco Malfoy's misson to kill dumbledore. Voldemort gave him this specifically, yes he had already received the dark mark but Draco said on the astronomy tower "I have to do this, if I don't he'll kill me" saying that if Draco doesn't kill Dumbledore Voldemort will kill Draco. This furthers the theory that if you don't pass this initiation you will be killed. Of course Draco was allowed in because of Lucius and Narcissa.
Might be he put it on Draco as a "tracking chip" should Draco chicken out and try to go on the run. Remember he was in Hogwarts, super far from Malfoy Manor. Voldemort, having never known the love of a parent, wouldn't understand that Draco wouldn't run for fear of Voldemort killing his parents. The dark mark in this sense would act as a reminder to him that he better do what Voldemort wanted or his parents would die.
Voldemort planned to sacrifice Draco as a sheep. Once Draco would have killed Dumbledore, Voldemort would kill Draco to become the master of the elder wand.

I'd want to know how to become a Death Eater or even how to SPECIFICALLY create a Horcrux. Not because I plan to join Voldemort, but because I'm just curious.
How odd it is that Delphini never stumbled upon these qualifications for the Death Eaters, or thought them up herself, while she was being raised in a pureblood supremacy household. She certainly would have been eager to take on an initiation "hit" or other difficult mission for the Dark Lord, even if she wasn't Voldemort's daughter in one version of the post-Battle of Hogwarts future. It seems she would be content to be a "me against the world" force of nature.

I believe that she wasn't treated well and it's obvious she had a pretty bad childhood I don't think she cares about blood purity, she just wanted her family back.
Given the number of death Eaters, it's doubtful that Voldemort chose every one. He would choose the cadre, but leave the subsequent recruitment to them. Of course, the punishment for failure was death.
I think Voldemort lets new death eaters join if they can fullfill some kind of important role for his following plans. Draco is a good example there because he got the dark mark especially for his quest in Hogwarts. As Voldemort can use legilimency he doesn't really need some kind of test before. I guess they get the dark mark right with their first quest. And if they fail he'll most likely kill him. Death eaters are some kind of cult so their behaviour is gonna reflect that. The reward for taking on the first test/task is the mark. If they succeed they'll maybe not get killed if they fail the second task
It would be only logical that it involved some trial of worth that an aspiring Death Eaters have to go through and this trial was either a showcase of loyalty and worth (leading to the Death Eaters recruiting the wizard or witch) or by a task given Voldemort or a high-ranking Death Eater. The showcase of loyalty and worth is likely incredible display of either magical prowess, especially in the Dark Arts or an extraordinary flair for both sadism and cunningness. Gathering intel on the enemy, being able to give Voldemort or the Death Eaters something powerful or interesting or kill someone who was a thorn in their side might also be seen as worthy. As for tasks, I imagine it will be something similar to what I written above only more specific: aspiring Death Eaters probably have to gather some intel, get some item, commit a specific act of terror or kill a specific target and if they performed satisfyingly, they are in. If they fail, well, they are probably dead.
@@vermontvampyre If they are caught by Aurors, a sentencing to Azkaban (not necessarily for life, it depends on what they were doing and how much can be proven), though lucky, maybe dead is better alternative to having to face dementors day in, day out... If they fail and are caught by other Death Eaters (or they were stupid enough to return after failure), I think they would likely be either tortured heavily or simply executed by them, depending on how bad they messed things up.
I imagine that one way one could become a Death Eater would be to prove that you are capable of using any of the 3 unforgiveable curses without any remorse or guilt at all!!!!!

Just only two requirements: First, you must be a pure blood or half blood with extraordinary magical abilities. Second, loves dark wizard and witch and be a servant of Voldemort forever!
Explain Pettigrew then? He was a Death eater and had shitty magical abilities. He pretty much rode on the coattails of Lupin, James, and Sirius during their years at school.
In my opinion the way to join the death eaters sound alot like the recruitment rituals of real criminal gangs like the Yakuza or other like Italian, Mexican or Russian Mafia. To join the Yakuza for example you not only have to put on several sinister tattoo’s, but you also have cut off some of your fingers by yourself. I also heard stories of other gang recruits having to set their hands on fire or carve a symbol on their back with a knife and even then the gang can deny you afterwards. And given that the marks of the death eaters are applied magically, I can imagine that it would be painful process like your being burn marked and perhaps even afterwards the Mark still tortures and follows you like a tracking device to keep under Voldemort’s control. Maybe the Mark even kills you in the most horrible if you try to abandon being a death eater or disobey any commands. This could make perfect sense and I can honestly see Voldemort do something like this.
As regards the Slughorn thing... --- Former head of Slytherin --- Riddle's favorite teacher --- Only one with recollection of Riddle mentioning Horcruxes... And one more thing - the Death Eaters thought Voldemort was Pure-Blood and tons of Pure-Bloods were actually half-bloods lying about it.

Morsmordre was a spell to exhibit the skull of Slytherin and the snake coming out of its mouth, is a basilisk. In the chamber of secrets, we saw the snake coming out of the mouth of the statue of Slytherin. Morsmordre basically recreates the event and promises to kill Muggles and give more power to pure blood wizards. Voldemort had pure hatred for Muggles, because his Muggle father had failed to live up to the weird expectations of his witch mother.

The theory about an apprenticeship makes sense given how Draco was to be part of them and he was given a task and was to be looked after by Snape. I think it's fascinating how much JoR took from Nazi philology and the "master race" philosophy of the 19th and 20th C and used to create Voldemort (Hitler) and the Death Eaters (SS.) The idea of "mudbloods", although it has a more contemporary use (modern skinheads and neo-Nazis) and muggles are synonymous with the Nazi idea of "untermensch."
It's plausible that Voldemort had knowledge of the spell Grindelwald used at the end of FB2 (Protego Diabolica? - the correct etymology should be protega diabolica or protego diabolico btw) and used it to test followers' loyalties. I would assume that even loyalty like Wormtail's (pure fear) is still considered loyalty by the spell. The other thing about this: if it's true, it confirms just how radically Snape's allegiances changed when Voldemort killed Lily. Obviously, as Snape and the Malfoys demonstrate, the Dark Mark doesn't magically force allegiance. People like Greyback wouldn't have been accepted because Greyback wasn't following Voldemort out of loyalty, but rather utility - he just wanted permission to attack. IF (and this theory generally isn't accepted) Snape WAS an agent of Dumbledore from the start (prior to 1970) then the possibility that Voldemort used Protego Diabolica and Snape made it through, would just demonstrate exactly how powerful Snape (maybe with the assistance of Dumbledore) actually was. Occlumency is one thing, but to be so committed to your cause that you can fool - according to Harry Potter Theory - the most overpowered spell in existence, that's another point for Snape, if we want to stretch things that far.
To all the people saying he definitely would kill you if you failed the task he set - remember that most of voldemort's followers and allies are actually not death eaters. There is only a tiny amount of death eaters in comparison. So while he may not let you become a death eater, it would make sense logically for him to allow you to continue being a follower and still serving him without being a part of his inner circle, as you are still of use to him.

What I dont understand much about Death Eaters is how, as a crushing majority of ambitious and plotting and manipulative slytherins, so few of them seemed interested in back stabbing Voldermort in order to become the new dark lord

well if the unforgivable curses are involved i think draco did either crucio or imperio as he uses both in book 6 (or tries to) but it's plain he's not a killer
Most of the socially evil person affected some or the other in their childhood in terms of receiving love from parents or neighbours or society. Lack of love in childhood leads to becoming a socially evil.

Voldemort not having a family growing up wasn’t the only reason he couldn’t feel or experience love, he was also born under a Love Potion meaning that it’s impossible for him to experience those feelings.
I was always under the impression that you could be a death eater without the dark mark - only those in Voldemort’s inner circle of trusted “friends” were subject to this.

She was under no condition to even perform magic if she wanted to and even if she was 100% in full control, it was obvious from the books that she was completely inept from abuse, similar level to a squib (she couldn't even boil a kettle of water properly)
I would imagine it is completely up to voldimort to pick who is a death eater. If you are one of his followers & you prove yourself worthy then he might just make you a death eater. I doubt anyone would be allowed to recommend someone be a death eater since that could be perceived as an insult by voldimort since they are basically telling him that they know better than he does who should be a death eater.

Merope CHOSE death because she didn't have the will to live after being abandoned by Tom Riddle Sr. If she was a stronger person, she could have survived, but she didn't. By leaving him at an orphanage she CERTAINLY abandoned him. This is even supported by the HBP: "Merope refused to raise her wand even to save her own life.’ ‘She wouldn’t even stay alive for her son?’ Dumbledore raised his eyebrows. ‘Could you possibly be feeling sorry for Lord Voldemort?’ ‘No,’ said Harry quickly, ‘but she had a choice, didn’t she, not like my mother -’ ‘Your mother had a choice, too,’ said Dumbledore gently. ‘Yes, Merope Riddle chose death in spite of a son who needed her, but do not judge her too harshly, Harry. I always thought that JK Rowling made a mistake having Draco Malfoy turn scared and not full Dark Wizard like. After all of Draco's fake darkness in the first couple of books(Bullying Harry and Ron and Mudbloods like Hermoine) before Voldemort came back. I thought Draco would turn fully Evil. Draco could of been like a new Grindelwald you know they both have blonde hair and stuff. Voldemort was trying to turn him into like his right hand Grindelwald type(Assigning him to kill Dumbledore the Old Wizard who defeated Grindelwald) and Draco turned scared like really?
After seeing the dark mark superimposed on Voldemort’s movie face, they should’ve kept his cheeks sunken in and his nose look almost removed like a skull, and kept his eyes white like when he emerged from the cauldron in goblet. That would’ve looked terrifying.
The reasons you have for why Voldemort wanted Slughorn while are good the main reason was that it was Slughorn that told a young Riddle about Horcrux and he didn't want him to tell Dumbledore (which he did) but also Slughorn habit of recruiting witches and wizards with talent, connections or what ever could see there ranks go. I wonder how Karkaroff was recruited as I doubt he had any family that were involved in Tom gang but due being from eastern Europe it may be harder for him to come across a Death Eater and impress them enough to bring him to Voldemort attention. Though I wonder if he was part of an effort to recruit followers from mainland Europe
I think he didn't meet with the people who wanted to join. I remember once Sirius said that he doesn't believe that his brother was killed by Voldemort, sort of he wasn't worthy enough to be killed by Voldemort himself, so it's more likely that other death eaters had that responsibility to check and test the new applicators rather than voldemort wasting his time with the new members
I think so long as you were powerful or had some other use they’d recruit any half blood or pureblood. After all, once Voldemort had won half blood lineages could be purified over generations.
