can you do a video on how to knit with circular needles without joining in the round. There is this really cute scarf/shawlette i want to do and it requires using circular needles to achieve the right size. the pattern is super easy but im super new to knitting. I love your instructions so much. you make it so easy to understand.
@@nancyel281 So I've tried using water, and I find it to be less effective than spit. Not sure why exactly! Possibly our saliva has glue-like properties lacking in water? If you try water, report back and let us know how it goes!
I did it! I can't tell you how excited I am to know this! I've been crocheting for over 50 years and have weaved in and hidden SO many little ends ... the worst part of any project. This is the first tutorial of yours I've seen, and it's a game-changer! I plan to watch more of yours. I love your clear voice, your humor, and that you don't go too fast - everything! Thank you, thank you! I'm going to share this 'how-to' with everyone!
This video was so helpful. Thank you for your great tutorials. You taught me to knit about a month ago and I have already made four scarves and a cowl. I LOVE this! Please put more videos up! I want to knit a blanket for my son to take to college next year, so I bought some circular needles that are 60 inches to use for this project. I would be tickled pink if you could post a video tutorial on how to make a regular size blanket!!! Thank you SO much for being such a great teacher (and for your humor, too)!
Thanks so much! I'm so honoured to be part of your knitting journey (cheesy as that sounds!). I've got a blanket tutorial planned for the fall, so stay tuned for that!
@@sheepandstitch Oh wow, I can't wait for your blanket tutorial. You really explain things so well and my projects turn out beautifully when I follow your tutorials. I will be eagerly waiting for that tutorial. I am a retired autism teacher and really needed something to do while recovering from joint replacements. I was so lucky to happen upon your channel. As I watched your knitting for beginners, I knew this was something I could do and enjoy. Thank you again for sharing your talents and helping newbies like me!
@@sheepandstitch Did you post the Blanket Tutorial and I missed it some how? I've been checking and looking but don't seem to see it? Also I've been trying to use the Russian Join method but am having a SUPER DUPER hard time pulling the needle through I can't seem to keep a hold of the needle..... any advice for a very new knitter. :) Thank You for all of your videos you have seen my sole "learn to knit" teacher.
@@Ljwahoske Nope! no blanket tutorial yet. I just posted a lace scarf tutorial and am deciding whether to make a blanket tutorial or a quick holiday gifts tutorial. So many ideas, too little time! For the Russian Join, the sharper the needle, the better. I find that once you have a good bit of bunching on the needle, its best to push the needle through the bunching by standing the needle on a table and then pushing the bunching down the needle so that it goes through. Bit hard to explain, but hope it makes sense!
Thanks for making this vid! Of all the Russian join tutorials, you really clarified a few things up for me. They never showed the trick of holding short end & re-bunching to tighten it up if it turned out too loose the 1st time. This is gonna change my knitying life forever! :D
I just tried the Russian join and it worked perfect for the scarf I'm making my mom. Thank you so much for your tips. I'm new to knitting and the only reason I been able to knit scarfs and hats for my family it's because of your tutorials. Please never stop.
Divina! Omgoodness that spit splice is sooo easy, quick and effective! I'm knitting alpaca socks and I was so mad at my yarn for having so many ends. Now I can fix it in like 1 minute and keep knitting.
Davina your tutorials are sensational! I only discovered your channel last night and I have learned so much. I binged watched big time! I am ready now to outknit my mother who is a professional knitter and has been doing so for 60 years. I reckon I can show her a trick or two! Clear, concise and exceptionally cute (pixelated spit cracked me up) ..I am totally hooked on sheep & stitch .. You give a unique and contagious energy to the craft, Thank you so much Greetings from Australia!!
Thank you so much! Your videos are so helpful and easily followable. My mother inspired me to knit but you have given me the confidence to do it! I have only been knitting for three days and I have already learned so much because of your teaching skills. Thank you so much for giving me a wonderful gift!
Just tried the Russian join and it's fabulous, thank you, I hate knots in my knitting. I love your zany sense of humour. I am a new knitter and I have learned so much from your wonderful tutorials. Keep up the great work 😀
I almost always end up with some of my hair caught in my work, so, I always leave a dna trail since I also use saliva to make threading a yarn needle to sew in ends as well. I also wash whatever I make before handing it over. The Russian join will make it easier to use up some scraps at least and make for less bulky color changes compared to my current methods.
I have a cat, he laid down on a just finished One Ball Shawl by Marly Bird and went to sleep on it. I have the picture on a different phone and posted it because it was so cute. If I gave one away, I'd make sure to wash it before sending it. 🤷🤷🤦😺😺😺
I've watched a few knitting tutorials and yours is by far the easiest to understand and your sense of humour is great....both the reasons I subscribed to your channel.....thank you.
This is a great video! I have been looking for a more seamless and secure way of joining yarn while I crochet and the Russian join seems perfect for that. Thank you for sharing.
My Mama used to use the spit join I couldn’t remember exactly how she executed the process. Thankfully your video answered my question. I am knitting an all wool hat and I employed this method! Superb! My Mama would say “ brava”! I will be washing this hat and then blocking it. It will be my daughter’s birthday gift! Thank you!
I love the Russian join, as I use a lot of acrylic yarn! But, both these methods are unique and so helpful! Thank you, sincerely, for this video! Great job!
Davina, you are a hoot, girl! Loved the Gremlin remark! I loved the way you blurred out the spit on the yarn as though it was too obscene for the human eye. Glad I found this channel and a new way to join yarn. You have a new subscriber for life! Hugs!
Wow, this is life changing! 🥳Thank you 🙏 I’ve always used simple knot to join yarns and then struggle to knit it in so that it sits at the purl side, but you can still always spot the join places. 😏 But this! 👏 I just tried the Russian Join and will be using it from now on. It’s so easy to do and so neat and invisible! 💝 Really, thank you so much for sharing.
This seems so simple to do. I’m so sad that I didn’t see this earlier - I just knitted a hat but I accidentally cut the tail too short and had to knit them together :( I will make sure to use this in the future thanks :))
Watched your video through once, dug out an appropriate needle, checked one more time and hey presto! my first Russian join! Thankyou so much for this super-clear video. 😀
I’m a pretty new knitter and came across a knot connection in my skein of yarn. I took it out and used the spit splice. I now have a single happy piece of yarn and a hairy tongue 😛 Patooey! Thank you!!!
K real talk that looks amazing, it never even occurred to me that you could do anything but just knot the two pieces together. This video is awesome, and you're hilarious.
Your tutorial was perfection. You got right to the goods, you made me laugh which is always the best way to learn something new, and you showed some techniques that other "how to" videos haven't been clear on. I really appreciate it. *Subscribed!*
I used the Russian just now. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm not so keen to use the spit splice method, but I really like it's end result, so you never know; I might try it in the future.
OMG I LOVE BOTH OF THESE IDEAS !!!! I used to knit when I was a kid and recently got back into it and was able to reteach myself how to knit SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE I found your guys youtube channel !!!! I CANNOT WAIT TO TRY THESE 2 METHODS OF JOINING MY YARN !!!!!! the yarn i'm currently knitting with was given to me by a friend and she combined the balls by tying them together (which i discovered WHILE i was untangling the giant mess of a yarn ball that is becoming my first piece) and i cannot wait to try doing these when i need to add my next bundle into the scarf i'm making for my boyfriend !!!! thank you for having such an amazing channel !!!! 💕💕
Love this, Davina! I knew of the spit splice but I’ve never knitted with a natural fiber before 😮. That Russian join is pretty cool. To join a new ball, I usually just overlap the ends and hold them together, knitting 5 or 6 stitches with both and then dropping the short end and continuing to knit with the new ball of yarn, weaving in the ends later. Thanks for this incredibly helpful video. 🧶
I usually join yarn the way you mention (by overlapping). I find it works quite well, but when I’m feeling adventurous I like using one of these methods!
I'm working on an acrylic ripple afghan right now. I hate having to sew in the ends so I am definitely going to try the Russian join! Thank you 😁 this is an awesome how to video with very clear visual demonstration of the technique. 👍👍
Best explanation of Russian join I've seen! I've been wanting to try it and now, I think I may actually understand what's going on. Spit join? I'd want to hear how that actually stands up to use in knitted projects.
I love the Russian join! I just knit blanket squares for Wrap with Love, an Aussie charity that distributes these blankets around the world, but if I'm doing coloured stripes, I still use the Russian join at the start of the changeover because it means WAY less loose ends to weave in, and less chance of those loose ends popping out over time. I've worked out that 1 sewing needle length is the amount needed to do 4 stitches from the end so I make the join at the end of that needle length (with 4 stitches left to knit) , and so the actual join ends up on the outside edge of the square. Hope this makes sense and I hope it helps someone else! Thanks!!
Thank you so much for this most instructive video. What an amazing teacher you are beautiful lady. Witty humor and clear instructions, you make learning so much fun. Subscribed! 💐
