I panic too much when I'm in the water. I'm in level one lesson 4, and today we were supposed to jump and I couldn't do it. So they told me to stand on the edge and get a feeling. Two lifeguard went behind me and gave a look to my instructor. Once I notice that look, I knew what they were going to do. I went to the bench and they told them no. They started to pull me out Of the bench and I was holding it with all my force. Then all of the lifeguard went towards me and surrounded me and told me, "u got 5 seconds to get up. If you don't, all of us is going to Throw u in the deep end." So I got up, stand in the edge, and one of the lifeguard grab me by the stomach and jump with me. Once I got to the surface, all of them started to clap and cheer for me. This moment was a embarrassing/accomplishment day.
Hi Emilio, thanks for commenting! Glad you managed to jump in in the end, hopefully by practicing with people you trust and by following the steps in the video you'll be jumping into the water by yourself in no time :)
That kind of treatment by teachers is criminal in our eyes. The student must always have a choice and go at his/her own pace. You've come to class to learn to be confident. Forcing you does the opposite. You can check the event off the list, but you do not own it and you probably don't want to do it again tomorrow.
A nice video, but you don't mention the hardest bit (for me) when they taught us to do this at school: even if I breathed out through my nose, the jump would force stinging chlorine water up my nose, into my sinuses and to the back of my throat. I hated it! When I learned properly I bought a nose-clip, and problem solved. Funnily enough, my freediving teacher doesn't like jumping into water much either, and yet we're both happy to swim down 20-30m without air. Jumping in a pool still reminds me of the horrible school swimming lessons.
You must not settle for this kind of discomfort! Hold your nose when you jump in! Water can't go in that way. After you can jump in comfortably holding your nose, you can start thinking of how to keep water out of your nose if you don't hold it. But don't try to learn both things at once: jumping in AND keeping water out of your nose. Step by step, staying present for each step because it's not too much at once. That's the Miracle Swimming way.
In our opinion, many steps are skipped in this video sequence. You have to squash your feelings and do something very scary to follow the directions. This is a teaching to manage fear. People don't want to manage fear: they want to heal it. Thank you.
Fantastic! Thanks again for commenting and sharing with us. What kind of techniques would you recommend for someone looking to heal a fear of jumping into water?
Hi. Do you have a video showing how to jump in, taking into account that people have a fear? Do you know if someone can practice jumping from a standing position in shallow water?
I finally overcomed my fear- jumping in the water. It’s more than just jumping, it’s a fear. After sliding in the pool for 6 weeks (about), I decided to try. Except, I found I wasn’t ready. In the pool there is a bar sort of in the water (for me) that most beginners hold on to swim. I decided to jump from that. Luckily enough, that made me a bit more courageous. Then, I tried a week after. Still wasn’t ready. I tried a week after, wasn’t ready. But today, my swimming instructor told me to try. And I did. Let me tell you, jumping is so fun!! It’s not scary at all, trust me. Just imagine the water is a trampoline!! edit: i can now jump in 10ft without fear :)
@@singerspeak1 since there is more water in the pool, there’s kind of no way to sink. your body will 100% float. you will just rise up quickly after like 1 second.
As a fearful swimmer, the worst part of going in over one's head is water up the nose, eyes, mouth, choking gasping... It would be very helpful if the video explained how to slowly and calmly EXHALE through your nose as you enter the water until you surface...that way you do not get a snoot full!
Exactly! I dont get whether I am supposed to hold my breath or exhale it and then dive. I tried holding my breath but as soon as I dived, I swallowed huge amount of water and it was painful..i really hope someone makes it clear
Me too. Minecwas a reflex action. Opened my mouth & then panic sets in. That moment you don't tell yourself to stay calm & relax coz you don't wanna fucking die. No matter how you practice to remain calm once the water enters the nostrils & mouth that's the closets I'll come to death.
Try using a nose-clip, and take a deep breath before jumping into water that's not too deep, say 1.5m. As you get used to it, you'll be able to do deeper water.
My 8 year old son is taking swimming lessons and had developed a phobia of deep Water if he has no floatation device. He will only Jump off the diving board if he has a "noodle" tied around his waist. He needs to know that the water, either in the shallow end or the deep end will hold him up without a floatation device. I think this technique will help him. Thank you for this.
Hi Leanne, thanks for commenting! Check out this video to find out how to avoid inhaling water- you'll see that the key is to exhale through your nose and mouth when underwater. Hope this helps! Let us know how you get on :) bit.ly/2tpL69q
Some Guy did you have something happen before? If not then you really just have to walk into the pool and slowly go farther in in till you get too nervous
i used to be like that, but I was at a pool party when I got over my fear. this one girl I didn’t really like from school was there, and it was a party with people my parents knew so I didn’t really have friends except my brother there. she couldn’t really swim and she had to use a float to get to the deep end, I decided to be a show off and just swim to the deep side all by myself. and that’s how I got over my fear. if you’re scared, try swimming in the deep end but hold on to a wall when u want to take a break instead of just wading.
I am good at swimming and I love it a lot, but my problem is with the fear of jumping. When I dare to jump, I jump on my stomach as a reflex, and this causes me pain and fear of repeating the experience. What should I do? I want to break my fears
I hate swimming lessons at school, mainly because I have to jump in the deep end of the pool. Whenever they tell me to I break down and they end up either yelling at me or pushing me in and it’s TERRIFYING it’s just scary because I mean drowning, swallowing water, having to float to the top and swim back! Like last summer I went on a water slide with a pool at the bottom and I didn’t know it was 7 foot deep so I went on and when I sunk under I couldn’t swim back up again and I nearly passed out sooo yeah I hate it
Everyone keeps talking about breathing out under water to prevent water from getting into the head via the nose But when you finish breathing all air out, can you still remain calm under water? I'm not sure how anyone can still stay calm as everything within you would want to breath in by reflex If that's the case, how then do you swim longer under the deep pool?
So what are we supposed to do? hold our breath while diving? cause the water still went in my nos with the sudden movement ofc..and if I exhale and then dive I'll probably not float..PLS HELP WHAT AM I SUPPOSD TO DO??
Im learning swimming in school and if im scared he just shouts and im scared that i will have to jump in the deep end with no float.and im in the smallest group because i cant swim so i hopr he understands im too scared
Don't worry ! It is ok to be scared and it is not a shame. In your swimming courses, you will learn how to swim, be comfortable in water and learn how to float in the water alone. You will see it is not that hard! If you liked our video, we invite you to put a like and to watch our other videos about the Fear of Water. We are sure you can do it! Tell us when you will succeed!! :)
Okay I took swimming lessons maybe 2 years now . This year 2019 I went swim and I think I forgot but I went in the shallow part and swam .. great since it’s been 2 years but the deep end was a no go I was too scared to jump in it
I am taking swim lessons at the ymca, i am 11 years old and i am in one week lesson 4 and we played a game called pizza pizza pizza pepporoni where we had to jump in the water, my body started legit shivering. i knew that the water was my level and that I wouldnt drown but yet i was still scared what made it worse was my instructor was shaming me and embarassing me, my instructors name was april i think idk but she was shaming me infront of the other people in my lesson and the other kids in my lesson were saying 'jump in omg' or 'stop being such a scaredy cat' it made me feel really sad and it made me feel ashamed of myself when my lesson was over everyone looked at me to see if i would cry while walking to my dad but i didnt cry but i felt really bad and horrible that my people in the lesson had to stand there and wait for me just because i have a inevitable fear of water. :( my instructor must have thought that she wasnt making me feel bad but when she said 'now was that so bad?' in a sarcastic way i felt sad because this is your job you get paid to do this if im scared you should comfort me not embarrass me infront of everyone, april if you see this by any chance you must have not known how i felt but im srry that i wasted you and the other peoples time i am just scared of the water. she ended up forcing me to jump in and the other kids in my lesson were yelling at me to jump in it made me feel bad bc i am 11 and they r 9 years old yet they arent scared but im scared :(

I'm not scared of water, I'm scared of the pool markings and drains, bobbing all over the place, not really knowing how deep the pool is. Everything is distorted. This always terrified me as a kid!
When me and my family get in the pool my oldest cousin would tell me to jump in and im scared to jump in the pool because i feel like i can either drown or drift away to the deep end. I know how to swim but I just want to jump into the pool by myself so i can overcome the fear.
Finally I found someone who has the same fear. I literally feel paranoid, when I am standing at the edge of the pool. Especially when I am not wet yet. But I do want to learn it, since it takes ages to get used to the water (on the shallow end). I know how to swim, but I am just too scared also at the deep end
I have swimming lessons at school and everyone always jump in the water but I’m so scared to do it and I’ve never done it, I’m not really good at swimming and I don’t know if I should still try and jump. Someone help? :(
I jump in the pool all the time and I already know how to do this but my little brothers can't come back to the top because they think they will drown but I like the video I will show my brothers this video and hopefully they will learn
Sikana English they jump in and then they think they panic and my other brother he jumps in and tries to come back up but needs to learn a little more both of them come up but then they can't swim up
The Beast look at sea animals, look at how they swim. I tend to float towards the “turtle” where you just put the backs of your hands together and push like your opening a double door with no handle
At a hotel there where kids at 2 teens they jumped into the pool but I tried I just get scared and won't jump even swimming I feel like drowning for some reason idk why.
Okay so pls nobody judge me but when I was little my parents tried countless swim lessons for me but I was always just too scared of the water. I am now 13 and can’t swim because (pls don’t judge) but I’m literally scared to float. I know that sounds so stupid but I can go under water I just can’t let myself trust the water. Any suggestions?
I was told to jump into the pool and the pool was 0.9ft the instructor told me that I was very tall and I could jump after that he hold me and we jump together three times until the last time I had to do it myself and I jump normally . Then I finally stand in the water because I was very tall
Today I jumped off the diving board for the first time and I'm not good at swimming so my cousins told the lifeguards to watch and I jumped and my body just naturally floated me to the surface and I was really wanting a kick off and I realized I coudnt because it's 9 and a half feet so I kicked and paddles as hard as o could and I got back to the ladder without any help
Once when i was 6 i was so scared to go in the water so i dident go in the pool then the lifeguards came and said *jump in the water* and when i dident jump in he said *ill never come swimming agian* so when i jumped in i was DOROWNING thankfully the lifeguard saved me and i can swim under water now but 4 years later im still scared to jump in lol
Hi Sumer, thanks for your question! The key is to exhale through your mouth and nose- take a look at this video for more information! Hope this helps, do let us know how you get on :) bit.ly/2tpL69q
Hey Dilip! Thanks for commenting. Don't worry, if you have some air in your lungs you'll float back up to the surface. If you kick your legs and paddle with your arms you'll get back to the surface even quicker. It sounds like you could really benefit from watching our free program on getting comfortable being in the water. You can check it out here: www.sikana.tv/en/sport/getting-comfortable-in-the-water . We hope it helps! Please subscribe and share our channel to help us grow
my instructor made me jump in the the pool right and the water was up to my chest area and so when i jumped i hir my knees super hard on the floor it hurt so much and i got water up my nose and in my mouth ☹️so that was great
bro all im scared of is when i jump how do i float back up my instructor told me it just floats u up so i just trusted myself jumped and floated back up and now im not scared
I am a competitive swimmer and have been doing for a long time and I still don’t like it but what happened was my coach made me get on the block and if I did not go I would have to swim a 300 free lol I went as fast as I could off the block 😂
I never swam before this incident and never took any lessons . I was on a trip and found. A hotel with a pool . And like first inwas afraid . I went to the floor of the water and i used my legs to push myself up . Then something clicked . My friend wehre diving andnflips and stuff . I did an side down dive . I never took any lessons or swam before . Somehting clicked . I am trying to find a pool near me that offers lessons
Rachid Sebaihi just keep trying, it will work better if you have constant practice. I learned quite easily because of lessons and constantly being on a boat. Also try using a life jacket to get used to swimming then take it off and see if you are more comfortable afterwards
(This comment will be long) So yeah I don't know how to swim well just a little bit,in my school im in 5 and in the 1st trimester we need to do swimming pool and in 2019 when im going to be in 6 I also need to swim im basically afraid of water because I think I'll sink and in one class I needed to jump and I was scared but 1 of my friends she know how to swim so she accompanied me when I needed to jump in front of my classmates and so I did it and...failed I slap my face with the water and without putting my goggles it was funny though😅So the reason I don't know how to swim is bc in my childhood" I lived in a construction so in the top of the construction there was a pool and I only went there few times I always went to the kids pool bc I was little and luckily I had my big brother that he knows how to swim but still I never learned how to swim but this video make me feel more comfortable thanks tho❤ like!
The thing is I'm not scared of swimming, I'm terrified of just normal jump and the thing with the hands forward (forgot the name) I'm lucky my swimming teacher understand me just like my classmates, but my normal teacher is an absolute worst. She calls me a baby :(
I cried when our coach told us to jump in a deep pool. I was so scared then. Well I was the last one to jump because it scared me to death.lol but I did it😢
Thanks for commenting! You're definitely not alone to be afraid of sinking. What's important to remember is that as long as your lungs are full of air, you will float back up to the surface completely naturally, as your ribcage will act as a buoyancy aid. This video will give you some more information about this: bit.ly/2tdOE2m By working through the exercises at your own pace, with someone you trust to support you, you can overcome your fear - we believe in you! Good luck, and do let us know how you get on :)
Fatma Dashti omg I have the same fear! Breaking my feet or getting hurt I dont know why! I can’t jump into the pool and I hate the feeling but I want to do it so bad
Yeah , I'm not at this point yeah , my fear is doing the float on my back and if I'm trying to float I have to be holding on to a rail in the pool , hope I can do
Hey maybe our free program on learning to swim can help! www.sikana.tv/en/sport/getting-comfortable-in-the-water Everything can be found on our RU-vid channel too. We hope it helps, and if it does then please subscribe and share so we can grow!
Hey don't worry Valerija - you shouldn't expect to float back up to the surface superquick like a balloon. It'll take a little while and you should help yourself by pushing off the floor or paddling a little to get up quicker :) Hope that helps
If everyone floats back up, then why do people drown? I've heard some people say, you have to relax. But then I think of Jack in Titanic who sank AFTER he was dead, when Rose let him go. I mean, it doesn't get any more relaxed than being dead : )
Everyone floats back up till the time they have air in your lungs. But, you can't hold you breath forever, right? Once you run out of breath, you start jumping up and down in the water with your hands up and trying to keep your mouth above the surface for air.
Well if you have fear just say anyone to push you in the pool then your fear will go same thing happen with me I was very afraid and my instructor just push me and now I am not afraid
I’m going to tell you a story from when my sister was little and she went swimming with her school she was In the baby pool and she was under water panacing that she was drowning her teacher was standing near the pool and said “lucie stand up” my sister stood up and said “oh” and everyone there started laughing
