Hi Eric, thanks for your commenting- great to hear you're learning to swim! It's certainly not always easy, so make sure you take someone you trust for support. We've created a whole program of 23 videos to help adults who are learning to swim for the first time, you can check it out here: bit.ly/2rHRzjm We hope these videos help you, and do let us know how you get on with your swimming! :)
It's wierd because i have always been able to swim underwater, but when i try and stay up to get air i flop around. Ive been trying this technique and I'm getting the hang of it now. Thank you😊
Amazing, thanks so much for commenting! Are you taking swimming classes? We'd love to know how you get on! Why not check out the rest of the program for more free videos: ru-vid.com/group/PLWgKm7kgxzCuatVLgD0_Xx206hm4MENZJ
This is indeed the toughest part of Swimming. I'm learning to Swim. I found the RU-vid videos helpful to learn swimming. Just watch these videos, try to do this in water, more importantly spend more time in the water. The more you spend time, the better you get at it.
So happy to hear that! Are you learning to swim? This video is part of a whole free video program on overcoming a fear of water and learning to swim. You can find it here: www.sikana.tv/en/sport/getting-comfortable-in-the-water We also have free videos on mastering all the main swimming strokes: www.sikana.tv/en/sport Check them out and let us know what you think ;) Please subscribe to our channel for more free content each week
Hi, I also think teachers need to focus more on floating. Most adults I know can float perfectly well with their faces free of the water without actually treading water. The trick is never to breathe out more than about 2/3. Only my two thinnest friends can't float this way! Of course it's harder for children -- I was terrified as a child because I found that I sank even with my lungs full. Learning that I floated as an adult enabled me to learn properly.
I learned it for a day!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!and all of my brothers and sister are always in the 4th feet deep and i can swim at 9th feet or any i want because they say im a good swimmer!!not here to be spoiled by the way🙂
I loved the video! I watch other videos and they don't seem to give me step by step instructions, but you break it up into three parts!! I learned how to tread!!!
As a beginner, when in the deep, should I try learning with hands alone first, feet alone first, both together? I'm not sure where to start in terms of learning properly. I can get the different motions separately out of the water and in shallow parts but I struggle in the deep.
Hi David, thank you for this excellent question. In reality, there shouldn't be any difference treading water in deep or shallower water - the technique and principle are still the same. As we recommend in the video, try treading water in the deep when you can't touch the bottom. Start off focusing on your leg movements and holding onto the sides, since your legs are your main force of propulsion in all swimming. Once you've got that, concentrate on your hand movements. If you have the technique already then you should hopefully be able to apply it straight to treading water in the deep end. Think of it a bit like doing a mini breast stroke but vertically rather than lying down flat on the water. We have an entire program for the beginner swimmer here which you might find helpfuly (we'd love to know it was!): www.sikana.tv/en/sport/getting-comfortable-in-the-water For more on the breast stroke specifically, we have another free program: www.sikana.tv/en/sport/breaststroke Please do keep in touch and let us know how you progress. Please share this more channel to help us grow and to help more people benefit from our free tutorials. Have a great weekend!

Omg thanks a lot! I had to do this for my Swim test and I passed! This video showed a lot more treading then I had to do. Next swim test I need to do these treads
It's funny that I know how to swim freestyle and float like a sea otter, but not how to do this! I am having a hard time with this technique, but thanks for the tutorial. You made it simpler and easier to understand. :)
Really glad that you found out video useful! Have you checked out our other swimming videos? There are loads! Please subscribe and like us on FB so that we can continue making more free tutorials :) facebook.com/Sikana.how/
Hi TheLoafOfBread, the key is not to panic- as long as your lungs are full of air, this will act as a natural buoyancy aid and you shouldn't sink. Practice the different stages shown in the video, at your own pace, and with a trusted friend for support. You could also use a flotation device initially if this helps you gain confidence. Hope this helps, do let us know how you get on! :)
Is it just me because since I started Gymnastics when I point my toes the big toe muscle really hurts and I can't move it after like 10 sec it will be gone so now every time I swim my toe muscle hurts and I end up with tears and the worst part is when u get dressed after swimming when I wear like pants or something when I get my toe in it hurts and I can't move it What Can I Do?!
This is kind of an aside...after diving in the water or treading (basically just being in a vertical position), how do you return to a swimming/streamline position?
Hi David, great question. I think our video on floating on your stomach will give you a better idea of the basic mechanics of getting back into a horizontal swimming position. Try it with a pool float and with someone you trust! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EvwDTY9Dp-Y.html We have a whole series on learning to swim which you can find here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-shR1YoKAK20.html If they help you then we'd really like to hear about it! Take care
Wow, that's great news, well done! We're delighted this video helped you :) if you're feeling ready, why not try out some of the other techniques shown in this video series? bit.ly/2rHRzjm
Thanks for your question Emily! The basic technique for treading water is the same in a lake as in a pool, so do watch this video again for tips! You may want to take some kind of buoyancy aid with you until you feel confident, especially if there is no "poolside" to hold on to in the lake. Do check that the lake is safe to swim in and that you're aware of where the water gets deeper, so that you don't get caught out of your depth! Also, if you're a non-swimmer, make sure you take a friend with you for support. Hope this helps, enjoy! :)
Maybe this video will help you! www.sikana.tv/en/sport/getting-comfortable-in-the-water/how-to-float-on-your-stomach Don't forget to subscribe to our channel for new videos all the time! Thanks
Well keep it up, it can only get easier with practice. Maybe you're moving around too much - you don't need much movement to stay afloat. Try it out and see if it works for you! Don't forget to subscribe to our channel and to like us on FB: facebook.com/Sikana.how/
