This video shows you what to do if your Ford lightning will not start.
I have owned a Ford Lightning for 6 months now with very few issues. It does an automatic update overnight, then I go to start it in the morning and my F150 lightning will not start. It's making crazy sounds and won't start eventually not responsive at all so the update essentially killed my battery, which was at 84% the night before.
Turns out all I needed to do was jumpstart my battery.
That's right the Ford lightning has a battery 12v that powers the accessories. So the update drained that battery, and I had to jumpstart my electric truck :-)

Very interesting! Looks like the frunk comes really close to hitting the garage door when raised up.

Tesla’s used to go through those 12v FLA deep cycle batteries about every 12 months, but they seem to have fixed it because I had the same battery in mine for four years. Some people were getting lithium batteries from the aftermarket and now Tesla is using lithium 12v batteries with an eye to eliminating the need for them by moving the entire car to 48v. I think a lot of other companies are going that way as well. I learned not to jumpstart anyone’s car with an EV and now just have one of those jumpstart batteries instead. Much easier than maneuvering the car around anyway

I agree that it would be nice to move the 12v to the main battery. These jump carry things are very useful for sure.

Good to know! I ordered a Pro and will trade in a Maverick. The Maverick randomly does the same thing 😪. There is a “customer satisfaction program” that will fix that though. It’s kind of like a recall with a different name. Hopefully, the Lightning has a similar fix.

I think several people are having problems with the 12v batteries because of how they receive a charge off of the main battery. That being said though, I haven’t had any issues since the first time I had to jump it.

I have a Ford Lightning. If I ever need to "jump" my Lightning (I am assuming all the accessories would be down telling me I need a jump?) How do you know the Juice Box has put enough juice into the 12 volt battery. With an ICE vehicle you know it worked because the engine started!

Basically, I knew it worked because all of the accessories came back on when I attached the jump n carry. Then with the jump n carry still attached I started the truck and it acted like it always had when starting. Then I unattached the jump n carry. Then drove the truck around for a while to make sure the 12v got charged back up. Pretty much all the same stuff you do with an ICE vehicle.

@@F150LightningMike Thank you! Hope I don't need this...but twice I have seen a warning "Low Battery" when driving my Lightning. Both times were right after I used the remote climate start. So it must use the 12V to run the fans/AC ??

Yeah maybe. I’ve heard that some people have to just get a new 12v. That may be what you need.

I wonder if it is really necessary to drive it around? I was under the impression there was no alrernator per se, but a step down transformer of sorts. If that's the case, then it seems you don't need to drive it around, right?

You might be right, but my jump n carry did not actually charge it up. It just gave it 12 V so the truck could start so my thought is that it’s best to drive it around in order to make sure the 12 V battery does get charged up in case there’s an issue, also since I have done that it has been over a year and no more issues so I guess what I did was the right thing to do.

@@F150LightningMike I think just letting it sit there parked and "on" likely is all it takes to charge once the 12v booster gets the truck to actually start up.

There is a manual release just like a gas truck on the inside of the cab.

With a key in your key fob. There should be a manual key lock on the drivers door. Although I saw on Facebook, somebody showed that they did not have one. I think that is a mess up in manufacturing.

They need a smaller battery 🤦 wounder if you couldn’t put a much larger battery 1100 cc. That battery looks like 400cc amp battery. I wounder why that didn’t design it to self jump or give it like a limp mode limiting the interior accessories until you replace that battery.

So this starter would have to be charged prior to giving a boost , correct?

Yes, but I have only charged it once in the 1 year that I’ve had it. It doesn’t take a lot of its juice to jump something. Because once you jump it then you disconnect it. I plugged it back in about a month ago and it still said full as soon as I plugged it in.

That’s also an option for sure, but honestly I’ve only had to do this once and since that time my battery hasn’t had any problems.

I see a few options for the jump n' carry product. Do you have a specific link or spec for the F150 Lightning?

Hi. I too am wondering about the differnt Clore jump n carry products (there's a smaller-cheaper "blue" one). I wrote to Clore and they responded that they did not have a product that could jump a lithium ion battery truck. What am I missing here? Thanks for this very helpful RU-vid.

Thank you for your comment. I’ve heard of some very small ones at Costco or Amazon too that can fit in your glovebox. This is only to jump the 12v battery, which is a very similar battery to a regular gas vehicle. It runs the accessories only and Sometimes the main battery doesn’t charge it up enough.
