I have been looking for how to do this for such a long time! My old coach used to do it, but never taught me and I was lost, but this was so helpful! Thank you!!

Thank you! I do this now when I take down my bow..also I put a bread tie around it so it doesn't come loose if I'm storing it in a bag.

That's awesome, thanks. It's good to know others have this problem too. I've been using those 'twists' you get at the grocery store. I put the string loops together like you do, insert the twists and then twist :)

What is this "untwisting" archers are trying to avoid? I just started shooting a turkish bow, but never thought to consider that i might want some sort of twist what? EDIT - i just watched "How to twist a string on a bow" and see that this affects the brace height, but why is this done? Pros/cons?

Why do you take the string off anyway rather than just unstring it and keep the loops on the limbs? I never take the string completely off my longbows or recurves so they can't untwist. Am I missing something here?

+pjculbertson55 When I take my bow apart to travel. I put alot of additional items in my bow case. So to keep my bow safe I put the riser in it's bag and the limbs in there own bags. Leaving the string on the limbs is a perfect way to keep your string from untwisting. So just be clear you are not wrong. I do it this way to make shipping my bow easier. Great question and happy shooting.

You're longbows are likely one peice. I have a takedown that I like to take apart and put back together every time b/c it's MUCH easier to get in my car that way. My once piece, of course, I never take the string off. Thanks Shore Shot! As an extra tip, I like to take a pen with a good larger clip at the top and stick it through the top of the loop, which keeps the whole thing you just did there from falling apart. ;-)

He answered the question..but I do the same for travel..when I put my takedown in a bag.

How do you guys store your string? Do you guys put it back in the container it came in or just a pouch in your bag?
@shoreshotarchery

I think the best way is to take the bottom loop and put it on the top limb with the top loop without twisting the string. Then take the limb of the riser and twist the string around the limb and then put the limb with the string to a limb sleeve. It is super easy to put the string back by just taking the bottom loop from the top limb and putting it to the bottom limb without loosing or gaining any twists. The only drawback is that you get some wax on your limb a couple of times after waxing the string, but it gets off easily.
