Thank you for watching the videos. Most of the flowers are fine just cutting under water. Some flowers that don't last long, tend to last longer with alum. For wisteria, on the other hand, alcohol seems to work better.

What a great trick. Does it only apply to the woody stems of hydrangea flowers or other softer flower stems too?

For most flowers it's enough to cut stems under water. Alum, however, seems to work for most of the flowers.

I tried Alum for many flowers. It doesn't harm, but for some flowers cutting under water is just enough.
