This kind of mind-blowing haha I think I always assumed people whose bracelets were super straight just used superior threads to the ones I'm using, this is such a neat trick! I'm definitely going to test it with both types of patterns

@Filip Martin hello, me from a year (or 2?) ago can now tell you that's it's all about practice, can't bypass it, string doesn't matter (unless you're strings of different thickness in one bracelet), just practice and they will come out straight eventually

Don't know if this will help any; I'm practicing this technique atm and it's basically like doing the flat edge technique on an alpha. (Forward backward/ backward forward knots at the edges.) You just add an extra string at both edges of your project.
@ClairesWears
@ClairesWears 5 лет назад
Another way I've kept my edges straight is by doing forward knots along the right edge of my bracelet wherever possible, and backward knots on the left edge of my bracelet wherever possible. If you have the same type of knot in long patches along both edges of your bracelet (like that first pattern you showed with just forward knots along both edges), then it tends to curve. Very informative video!

Strain edges technique is also a neat way to seek in another complementary colour which will only be visible in your ties. E.g. if you sneak in lilac thread for straight edges then it'll be invisible until u reach the tie and it'll look like it magically appeared

Masha! I found out how to keep a candy stripe bracelet straight! So, you do the first row normal, then you remove the two outer strings and know the middle knots as normal (so you take the outest string and make a forward knot onto all of the strings, except the two you have taken out)

wait so wouldn’t this give us an extra column of knots?? i’m literally so confused
@omarismail9189
@omarismail9189 4 года назад
You see, this just gives the bracelet stability so it looks straight. Just add the backward-forward knots if it is on the left side and forward-backward knot on the right side, because when you do the bracelet the strings on the edges are hanging, but when you add the 2 extra strings you are knotting on them instead of leaving them hanging, so it will make the bracelet a teeny bit wider but it won't be noticeable. Also this is just a hack, but you don't really need to do it. I make bracelets and they are straight without doing this, but this will make it look better though. One last thing, it would really help me if you check my account on instagram @la_luciole_brillante
@leyalaatasto9096

It wouldn't bc you're only putting knots onto the extra string. Ideally, while doing this, you don't use the extra string to make knots. Hope that helps :)

Thanks for the tutorial! If you add two strings that won't be visible are you making forward backward \ backward forward knots into them for every row? Your video showed you adding the knots for the rows where pieces stuck out____ but will I only knot those or will every row be knotted over the strings on the outside ? Does that make sense? Ha

casalllama As I understand it, the two added strings are hidden by the outer strings and are only there to keep the bracelet from curving.
@sironyblue
@sironyblue Месяц назад
I feel like I'm still rather struggling with this a bit, mainly with the ones where you need to add the hidden bonus strings? I'm probably overthinking it a bit, but when it comes to the odd number rows on a pattern where you DON'T use the bonus string, would you still backward-forward/forward-backward, even if the pattern doesn't call for it? How does it not go cattywompus? I'm just one of those people who can struggle when just given diagrams and instructions. This may be something where a visual may help a bit more. (Bear in mind, I'm still super new to this.) I want to practise this with the basic chevron, but as you taught us with segment knotting, I think my little pea-sized brain is having trouble computing. 😅

I haven't had that issue yet, but this info is very good to have handy! Speaking of two end strands that are the same color, if someone feels like answering, I have a goofy question 😜. I'm new so please humor me lol. I started a pattern where the two end strands on the left side are different colors, & the two on the right are the same. On the latter, which of the two strands should I be using to form that last knot? I can't seem to get it right, & that border is atrocious lol. Meanwhile, the other side is fine. 😜🤦‍♀️😭
