11:37 candy stripes are a little tricky to keep the edges straight and not curled since all the knots are made in the same direction. Mine curled a lot too when I first started so I had to iron them to straighten them out. What I noticed is if I made the knots too tight the candy stripe would curl up. Making the knots loose (but not too loose) would probably help, but again it takes practice to get the tension right and the knots even! Hope that helps!

Oh man, when I first started I was obsessive over fixing my mistakes, so I don’t actually have any, but one (my very first one), bracelet from that time that has many mistakes. I used to spend several days on a bracelet because I was too careful. I’m thankful I’m more relaxed now though, as I can get through a bracelet in a few hours now.

lol same i had the smallest mistake in the bracelet i was making last week, and i threw it in my string bin. my mom she was organizing my strings and she found 20 uncomplete bracelets. lol im such a perfectionist

IKR my tension ain;t as questionable as one would expect it to be [i've only made 3-4 bracelets altogether] and I've only missed knots once or twice! [but only the fishbone chev and the normal chev where you're supposed to memorise them]

Very helpful video regarding common mistakes. I see two more common errors: 1. Uneven Spacing Of Letters. *The ideal is to get each letter covering the same width (and length), otherwise, they shouldn't be more than one row wider than the rest (like the letter 'M'). * To help, you can Google & print out a chosen pixelation of the alphabet, or you can draw your own using a graph sheet/book, making sure to draw each letter in the same sized rectangle. *Make sure that the grid accommodates the number of strings that you're using PLUS an extra row & column at each end (Top, Bottom, Left, Right) 2. Making Letters To The Edge *To correct this, add an extra string or two of the background colour to both sides of the bracelet ( top & bottom of the letters). #KnotsOfLove :)

12:28 - I've found that if you don't sit at an angle and/or it doesn't move around while you're making it, it comes out straight. The trick is to always always make sure when tying knots, you pull the string in the same direction and angle every time, make sure it doesn't twist (always flat and face up) and prevent the bracelet from moving as it gets longer. So anchoring it as you go (with tape or pins) and tying your knots near and not far like is mentioned at around 2:01 . Also I never tried the straight edge technique and never heard of it until now

so something i noticed while doing bracelets recently, if i don't pull the knots AS tight, i don't get the cinched in or wavy look, even with the straight edge technique. it's because you're pulling a little harder or the string itself is of different quality than the others. the ones i did past couple of days do have a slight wavy/cinched look to them, but not as bad as some others i've done previously. i like tight knots, but if it starts pulling the bracelet a certain way, i start loosening just slightly. i will also often go in and wiggle and "stretch" the bracelet as i work to pull the cinched sides out a bit more straighter.

For the dog bracelet with the gap, I think that person divided it into 2 alpha bracelets by separating the background and the dog. I can see that it wasn't 1 consistent row.

yes I was gonna say that too. it looks like she accidentally made the bracelet into two separate bracelets at that point instead of connecting strings that should've been knotted together around that area.

actually it is like that as she had to put multiple knots on the same row according to the pattern which looks the same for me too every single time but im not a beginner so i’m wondering how would you guys go about that if that’s what the pattern says ?

@@mintdotx once you change from dog to background (or the other way) you need to loop the old sting in with the next knot. Then the old string down so it doesn't poke up. This loops the 2 parts of the bracelet together. Masha said she moves the strings out the way but that's not a good idea.

It's like a sandwich, when You are going to continue with another color You make the first part of the knot, then you put the previous color in the way, then you make the second part of the knot so the previous color is in between, now you put the previous color out of the way in the back, so you keep all the bracelet together 🌸

Halfway through my first arrowhead bracelet (my first more advanced bracelet) I noticed it was turning out more squashed and uneven. Knowing that I should pull the string by the base of the knot - not further away from it - made it look so much neater :D

One thing that MAY help candy stripes lay flat is "filling in the corners." Start without a knot, make the bracelet, and at the end decrease your knots in each row by 2 until you have only one knot left, making the bottom flat. (I.e. if you were making an 8-string candy stripe, at the bottom you'd make a row of 7 knots, 5, 3, and then 1.) Flip the bracelet, do the same on the top, and finish off as desired. This creates more of a flat band than the oblique ribbon formed by not filling in the corners.

I make candy-striped bracelets. It's the only kind I know how to make. I used to have a tension problem with them too, but I learned (from another video) that the thread is being pulled up too tightly to the point where the bracelets would curve in on themselves so now what do is I pull the first thread up lightly and the second thread up slightly tighter to bring them closer together. Ever since I started doing this I no longer have my bracelets curving on me.

in my experience with strings breaking, the best way to prevent it and being able to tie as tight as you want it using embroidery floss that is NOT braided or twisted. in the video she uses braided string from loops and threads, and this stuff tends to stress break so easily. i use dmc floss which comes in tons of colors and finishes, its about 30¢ per skein for the normal stuff. it holds up super well!!

I have a horrible time with craft thread snapping for me as well! I’ve been making bracelets for 14 years and avoid that stuff like the plague. That being said, if you don’t pull on your strings as hard as I do you may not have that problem! 😂

My first time making bracelets was so-so, the patterns were mostly tricolored candy stripe and chevrons, but the issue was the length of the strings, and the end result of my first bracelet was smaller than my small wrists. Back then the length was about less than half of my arm span. Now I know it should actually be an arm span length.

For the one with the bear with the hole in it at 17:00 i had that happen it means you skipped over a string and didnt knot it so if you had 8 strings you might have forgot to pair one of them thus a hole appears so you would have to untie it and not skip it

It's not because a skipped knot because it would still be 2 separate parts, you need to have the old string looped in the new knot

for the bracelet club theres a chunk above the koala that is a different color and its separated like that becuase when you do alphas, the colors will leave small holes when you change then unless you have a big chunk

If your bracelet are twisting but you don’t want to losing the knots, tape down where the edge of the strings are, use two strings next to each other instead of one, also if you don’t have a hair straightener tape it to a table and hairspray it!

with the dog one the girl started from both sides but forgot to connect the two sides. hence why there is a gap. this happened to me. all you have to do is connect the two together in a VERYY tight knot

I started learning to make friendship bracelets during quarintine, and when I started I always tied it wayyyyyyy too tight, leading to thread riping, and halfway through it started to mess up.

the hole in the dog bracelet. this happened because 2 different colors ended in same place on multiple rows, this happened to me. to solve the problem if row is going from left to right make sure after tying last knot of one color to put that thread to the right of the bracelet so don't put it to the left side so when bringing in the next thread color the threads need to mingle or cross over each other on the backside to close that loop hole when the knot is tied with new color. same idea when going from right to left. Summary. after completing a knot to change colors cross over the thread on the backside when the pattern calls for two or more rows where the color changeover happens in same place from one row to next. i make bracelets all the time. lol i am actually working on an alpha pattern right now: when doing candy stripes, the key is to not pull too hard because that can result in the uneven lines. the candy stripe requires a night balanced tension when making it. i hope that helped the 2nd instagram picture!! 😊

For the hole it could be that they forgot to go i front of the string they were replacing. Like you go behind the base and in front of the background colour. They forgot to go in front therefore ‘disconnecting’ the strings and making a hole.

That usually happens because you're more comfortable doing one type of knot over the other so I'd recommend practicing the one you're not that comfortable doing to even them out

that happens to me, that means you are pulling too tight (i think) because when i pull too tight that happens. you can fix it preferably with undoing the knot with a needle, or just pulling on the string, but pulling could cause problems so just undo it with a knot

16:58 might be a color switching issue? I think they’re using a white color and a cream color and maybe they didn’t switch the white into the cream while knitting. I could be totally wrong, it’s really hard to tell

Idk if anyone else gave these tips but 1. For candy stripe I used a clipboard but I kept adjusting so that it clipped the bracelet right about where I was working but I it it straight so that the candy stripe slant was visible and maintained. My bracelet came out pretty straight I think and I didn’t use the straight edges technique there. You can see it in my insta @thesarafinsta 2. For the hole in the alpha, that happened to me today when I tried my first alpha. That’s when I switched the colour threads incorrectly. So the new thread knots did not include the previous leading colour. I had to undo the knots and redo, making sure that the previous colour was passed through and the second half of the new knot was formed on top of it.

For the last bracelet that you were going over it looks like this person was doing the bracelet normally but then added a string on the opposite side they were working on which created the hole (does that make any sense) this person was doing forward knots and then had to add in a colour but added it to the wrong side and started doing backward knots (also i know this is a really old video but if someone is learning this might help them) :)

I tried to make a chevron bracelet and the pattern itself on the bracelet looks fine but there are indents where some line of string are and I don’t know if it’s from tying the string too tight or something else. I don’t really know how tight I should tie my knots and that’s why all my bracelets look wonky. Please help.

I’m trying to do a Batman alpha rn and it’s my second ever alpha the first was sunflowers but it wasn’t finished and accidentally got trashed I think and the sunflower one looked good but the Batman one looks trash and I haven’t even got to the Batman part yet. Do u have any tips on how to not make the start of a bracelet look trash I did the tear drop loop and the loop looks fine but it’s the start of the knots after it they were being difficult and look ugly

The dog one makes me a little frustrated to be honest because she’s followed that BraceletBook pattern exactly. HOWEVER, she followed the knotted diagram and not the graph. If you look at the knotted diagram they have no strings carrying behind that point and without ‘locking’ that string in behind, the pattern literally has a hole in it. I’ve seen this in a few of the updated alpha knotting diagrams just never so big.

I did a bunch of candy stripe bracelets when I was beginning, so I got better at making them evenly tight so mine don’t turn out that curly and uneven

Another mistake could be, that I did in my case, was to put two threads to form a bigger one and that the bracelet was bigger. After making one with a single thread, I was able to know that I do them well, the only thing was that when I put two in it, I altered the design. 😭😭

I wish I was taught how to do a shower on first I was taught how to do it forward not candy stripe and so when I learned that I had to do back or not as well it was a lot harder for me to learn them because I was already more used to doing Fortnite and I was good at 40 nights but I eventually figured it out but I’ve always been a little bit better at four or not because of learning on candy stripe so I highly recommend that anybody who wants to start making friendship bracelets starts with Chevron

Theres a "mistake" I keep doing whrn I do my chevrons and its annoying, I dont know how to fix it. Whenevr I am doing a backward knots, so the right side of my chevron, some of my knots somehow pulls a bit on the previous string I used, amd it peaks through. I dont know why it does that I hate it. I tried fixing it by doing looser knits, but then theres holes and I can see through it and I dont like it more. Any tips, anyone??

i had this type of thing going on as well, and what I did was change my string to a thicker one. I bought them at walmart for 5 dollars, lots of colors! And when I made my first chevron with them I did not see the previous string or anything. The thickness is so nice as well, i love it! The name of the strings was "Coats & Clark® Jumbo Value 105-Pack Multicolor Embroidery Floss, 8.75 Yards"

For the hole guessing the string was skipped or accidentally doubled up on the string vs tieing a knot on one string it was two strings?

So I know you said you done a video on how to add string on alpha, but maybe you could do one on a normal pattern because for some reason I can't visualize it. I've tried practicing adding on a string to the normal pattern, but can't seem to get. Its cool if you don't, but I'm more of a visual learner.

@@michellegabel8109 it's literally the exact same thing. You tie the string on where you need it and put the loose end behind the bracelet and just continue using the new string

I dont know if anyone has commented on the mistake made by the.bracelet.club and I think its because the maker of the bracelet forgot to connect the bracelet both on the same and next row all the maker did was focus on the pig fom the cartoon Moana and not completing the whole row ( sorry my comment is quite long ).

so i know how to make chevrons and stuff and i have made a good chevron before, but there were some small holes in mine, do you know what to do for that? they aren’t that big of a deal but i don’t like them and i know that i can fix them somehow

It usually goes away the more you practice but it's due to knot tension

PLEASE HELP I just made my first bracelet it was the spiral one. And for some reason all my string just kept getting shorter and when I went to make the knot all the short string got tangled, and when I was finishing it off all the string was uneven. But also some of my ‘spirals’ didn’t go all the way around 😭

I just do forward backwards or backwards forwards on those ones so if my string was going from the left to the right on an alpha I will to a backwards forwards on the last string and then start doing forwards knots on the string next to it, once I have done all the knots on that row but the one base string furthest to the left I will do a forwards backwards and then start doing forwards knots. (Hope that made sense) BE CAREFUL because the first time I tried this I pulled an edge base string out so make sure you are very careful with those.
