I never considered keeping the Texas Cichlid but after watching this, I must say that the electric blue is stunning! I keep watching fish videos and wanting more fish 😂
Learned about the breeding with the Texas cichlid after 1 year into the hoppy. I purchased one green and a blue Texas from imperial unsexed. I eventually found out that one of them was a female. Females definitely turns black underneath and will have tiger like stripes on the body. I woke up one morning and saw fry everywhere. I tried to save them but was not ready for the challenge. Both parents became super aggressive. The male ended up killing the female. The fry was getting eaten by the tank mates. It was crazy, I didn’t have another tank for separation. Now I have another female in action. You are right they will spawn with about anything.
I succeeded in getting the unique RED Texas and it’s wonderful in a community tank along with Red Leopard Oscar, Jack Dempsey, Green Terror (Sum), and short body Convict ❤ all’s well and kinda peaceful 😉
Love these fish! Off topic question: Your tanks are always so clear. I know you mention Chemi Pure, which one do you use and why? Blue? Green? Elite? Thanks!
Back in Houston, as a kid, I used to catch them from a stream in the back of our yard and put them in my 20-gl. tank. Little did I know, they love guppies.
I’ve read that, given the true Texas cichlid is from a bit farther north than the carpinte cichlid, the Texas can tolerate slightly lower temperatures than the carpinte. In the wild, the Texas cichlid is found in the same waters as sunfishes. I think it would be great to include a Texas cichlid in a North American native tank.
I have 1 texas chichlid along with 1 green terror,1 electric blue acara and 1 severum in 35 gallons tank for now due to space issue..will that work for some more time.
And i have 2 female Texas cichlids bit only one has shown signs that it wants to breed and with my parrot fish none the less so if they ever do have babies I would get super reds out of them
I would just be aware that there will be hundreds of babies, and to get the “Super Red Texas” you’ll likely have to cull almost all of them that aren’t
I have a female that tried breeding with a blood parrot cichlid nothing came out of it probably was there first time trying or there both female or the the parrot fish can't breed but I had a Texas cichlid and my blood parrot guarding eggs once already and this said female is showing that dark black color as well and won't let other fish near her or the parrot fish
Yea or it was there first time breeding even cuz they weren't sexually mature when I first got them so it's possible there new to it as well cuz I usually have that when it's first time breeders
And I do believe I also have a male and I have a female firemans dream flowerhorn could try that out as well cuz I would just get a mix of Texas cichlids and flowerhorns probably
