Perfect timing Jay! I was literally stumped on the XTU, blocked by windows defender. This is classic Jay, on point tutorial. I heard about undervolting, was interested, now I'm using it.

To the commenters asking for AMD: Benchmark your CPU at stock. Write down the results. Go to PBO, pick the max negative offset you can get that's stable. Benchmark again and write down the results (they should be higher). Then go back into the BIOS and lower the target temperature in PBO until your benchmark results drop to around the first number. There you go!

ASUS mobos have a hard time with PBO. My Creator is absolutely allergic to any automatic tweaking and I am tired of pulling my GPU out to reset the bios.

@@musicalintelligence Yeah, I find that the offset potential is somewhat relational to the overclocking spec on the DIMM. I seem to be able to do better if I do not max out the XMP, I think DOCP is whack, also if you overclock CPU and not the RAM, the VCC and VOC will be all cracked out and jumpy like its on drugs. I hear Gigabyte had the same issue until their BIOS update in May.

@NicoGylis yeah and ironically enough if you have a 2 dimm board which is almost always itx or an overclocking board, dual rank x2 goes from like a +200mhz advantage over 4x1 rank to like + 800mhz so if you're a creator needing fast high capacity ram the "creator" boards will leave you much worse off 😂.Msi is the best example of this seeing they say their supported speeds for all mem configs and their $300 itx board supports 600mhz higher mem clocks in dual rank than their like $1500 z790 godlike.

If you wanna play it safe, just leave everything stock / auto when it comes to frequency .. just apply small offset to voltage and change LLC to something like normal behaviour. The boost that you will get in regards to FPS with newer gen of CPUs especially if you re playing on higher resolution is completely irrelevant. Did some testing with bit older hardware, and with MID OC of CPU and GPU in majority of the games was like between 2-4 FPS difference on 4k resolution. Would say, waste of time. (But small offset gets you lower temps, and just leave the frequency be)

As a result i started using Linpack extreme instead, 3 runs of the stress test it crashed immediately, altered my voltage, ran linpack again for 3 more rounds, it was perfect. Launched battlefield with the same OC but better voltage curve and its ran perfect ever since. Cinebench only tests the core clock itself, core clock OC can affect memory and cache, which cinebench does not test..Linpack does AVX and nonavx instructions, also loads up cache and ram. Covers all possibilities.

Cinebench R23 yields higher scores if task manager priority is set to high, or if you don't mind your cursor being extremely slow or freezing for 10 minutes, set it to real-time. 😊 2. linpack Xtreme uses even more power! 😮 3. ASRock motherboards, until a recent BIOS update, was setting TjMax on 13900K / KS to 115°C. 4. 14900K will burn a hole through your mobo. 5. Thanks Jay for making this helpful video! 🤓

Just a few days ago I found one setting that fixes everything. So I have a z390 board from Msi with an i9 9900k. So basically my cpu always hits 100c on all core in cinebench r23 with about 220-260 watts (score ≈10k). Voltage was at 1,46. Now I found out that there is a setting wich was called CPU lite load standard was mode 11, tested the modes and found out that mode 4 runs perfectly stable now with voltage at 1,25 and temps are around high 70s and low 80s in cinebench at 170 watts which results in a score of about 13k.

Totally agree as I found that setting recently as well. On my MSI Z790 and 13700K overclocked, I was hitting a 100 degrees in Cinebench R23 multicore test, with the lite load setting dropped to mode 5 the temps are great now and in the mid 80's especially for a nice all core 5.4GHz overclock on a 13700K with a max under load voltage at 1.264v and pullling 239w in CBr23....had to search the OC forums but what a great setting to have...

@@vMaxHeadroom nice improvements. I’m glade that this function still remains in the newer board definitely makes upgrade and optimization easier. I still don’t think it’s the right way to fix the stability problem, either intel or the motherboard manufacturer should implement a fix. Why doesn’t intel calibrate all the chips in the testing phase so that they work how they intended, I think they should be able to save some kind of personalized voltage curve on to the cpu. And the other solution would be, some kind of first boot/configuration setup in the bios where the first thing should be optimizing the voltage, for the user

XTU does not work for B660 chipsets as it pertains to undervolting within XTU due to plundervolt. Intel has yet to update to allow us to undervolt under these chipsets. You can make any changes within Throttlestop and it will ignore any of the changes due to the same reason. I had to underclock to get my thermals under control (a previous video Jay did :) until something changes)

I am going to have to try this once I'm feeling a little more motivated. I just completed my i9 13900K build and I freaking love it - and surprisingly, my Corsair H170i AIO seems to be keeping it pretty damn cool during normal gaming - I have not run something like cinebench though, at least not yet - I would rather have my ...planned cooling setups complete before I even let a program like that touch my chip and fry some eggs on it, haha... it scares the piss out of me... to be completely honest. I get it - this stuff is designed to run hot. I've understood that about certain brands and products for years and years, but it does not alleviate my uh... trepidation? Yeah, not really. I don't even TEST with benchmarks until I've got overkill solutions or just plain perfect airflow through the case in addition.
@scottyc3215
@scottyc3215 8 месяцев назад
The thermal throttle should save you from damage in most cases. That being said, I'm currently trying to get the 13900k to run at any sort of reasonable temperature and losing. Even with a good AIO, and a steep undervolt, it's still hitting the 100C thermal throttle after a few rounds of Cinebench.
@scottyc3215
@scottyc3215 8 месяцев назад
Alright, I think I'm done for now. P-core and E-Core ratios left the same, at 55x and 43x, respectively. I got the Core Voltage Offset down to -0.085V without any crashes, and just stopped there. That brought the peak temps down to max 90C, which is good enough. I might've been able to bring it down farther, but didn't see the point. Additionally, it should be noted that one of the biggest factors here was actually removing the front and top panels from the case for better airflow. If you haven't tried it, do so. Especially if your AIO is set to exhaust out the top, the heat can just sit on the outside of the rad, heating things up more than you'd think.

Download Ryzen Master, hit curve optimizer, take a coffee while the computah does its thingy, when its done you can enable PBO, then offset the hz by +200Mhz.That's pretty much it for AMD, it's just a toggle and the rest is automatic. You may want to go into BIOS and tick off "let motherboard limit power" if you have that option, but it is not a big deal in my opinion performance wise. But for your temps under any load, I would have done a remounting of the cooler, make sure that you have not left any plastic between the cooler and cpu, is the amount of thermal paste enough, does it make proper contact with the cooler and cpu? Are you using the correct mounts for the cooler? Did you screw down the cooler following a star pattern and only just a few turns on each screw repeated until the cooler had enough pressure? Too much pressure may also cause high temps.

I have been building computers for an AI developer who works from home in an area with slow internet service. While coding can be done on a laptop, testing is done on a PC that I assembled with a 13900k CPU held down by a Thermal Grizzly Contact Frame and cooled by a Noctua NH-U12a and a 4090 GPU. With FurMark running on the GPU, the CPU was under 90 C while running Cinebench R23 doing a 30 minute stress test in a 25 C ambient. The multi thread score was just over 38000. Intel XTU makes getting the most out of CPU lottery and cooling solution a lot more time efficient. Cooling solutions also need to be efficient over time. Dust decreases the cooling efficiency and dust increases with fan speed (air flow). Dust will accumulate exponentially with time. This means that an initial temperature margin, e.g. 90C, will be needed to compensate for the inevitable accumulation of dust. CPU temperature will increase exponentially with frequency. The CPU and its bios will use a higher frequency and voltage (turbo boost) on a core if the temperature and voltage and maximum frequency will allow. This seems like a good idea but it depends on the cooling solution. This turbo boost can use more of the thermal budget than the ideal heat/work ratio. This will cause less work for a targeted temperature margin. A quick indication that the maximum frequency is too high is that the Windows Task Manager reports a CPU speed much lower than the maximum frequency. The best indicator is the Cinebench score at your target CPU temperature. The best PC motherboard fan curves will remove the heat with the minimum air flow. This will make less dust and noise. By adjusting the fan curves and maximum frequency the curve should look similar to the table below. CPU C 40 50 60 70 80 90 94 Fan % 0 10 15 40 70 90 100 The number, size of the fans, and fan speed of the fans that help remove air (exhaust) should be sized to maintain positive pressure in the PC case from filtered air.
