Hope you enjoyed this video! Don't forget to let me know if you can find any plant gels in your favourite moisturisers AND DON'T FORGET TO CHECK THE DESCRIPTION BOX FOR MY CURATED LIST OF PRODUCTS THAT CONTAIN PLANT GELS - I made a list for BOTH the UK & US! Love you guys!
You can find soultanicals in simplymoi.co.uk and Kiyo beauty in London and also naturalisticproducts.co.uk and I will advise you to try Eco Slay, I think you'll love it and also Curls and potions available at Kiyo Beauty.
I came across this channel by pure accident and now here I am wanting to give this woman the WORLD. I mean, her glow??? Her humor??? Her bRaInS? Sis, this is my favorite channel from now on, I'm about to binge watch the hell out of your videos 😂
@Mizzmiami 32 I use African Pride pre shampoo to detangle. Next is Bentonite clay or regular shampoo (usually creme of nature). Everyone has a different opinion about Cantu but…I deep condition with cantu’s deep treatment mask. Nothing makes my hair feel better (softer, more moisturized, malleable, stronger) than when I use that deep conditioner. After rinsing, I use cantu’s leave in and put a little olive oil or palmers olive oil hair grease on my hair. I put my hair into big braids or in mini twists a month at a time. If I don’t, I remoisturize once a week with the Cantu leave in.
This is one of the best youtube channel. It is like the natural hair movement 2.0. We are moving from the look how my hair grew in 3 sec, min, days, weeks, months, years etc to being INFORMED! INFORMED! Amazing. Thank you.
Aunt Jackie's Quench- Moisture Intensive Leave in Conditioner has Aloe Vera, Slippery Elm, Marshmallow Root and Glycerin in the top 10 ingredients. I love that stuff!!
That one didn't really do anything for me. I was happy that it at least didn't do anything *bad* to my hair! But I went through the entire bottle and noticed no change, which was sad! Maybe I need to find those ingredients and try them separately...🤔
Dryness waiting at the door after we've done all that work to avoid it, is high level disrespect! 😂 I watched this video, ran off to the lab, took out all my ingredients and made a film forming humectant leave in conditioner. GIRL, this was the truth. It defined my curls, and kept my hair so hydrated until wash day. I couldn't believe it. Thank you so much for this info.
I’m in literal AWE of 1.) how beautiful you, your accent and your hair are. 2.) how LUMINOUS your spirit glow is and 3.) how funny you are!! I’m two videos in and I’m already a subscriber and about to quite frankly stalk your IG 😂✨
Same. Just found this channel a few hours ago & still binge watching. So, so true about the film forming hemectants. I started using flaxseed gel 3 weeks ago & WOW!! the moisture retention. It's a game changer!! I'm a bit of an ayurvedic DIYer & use hibiscus tea & aloe vera juice as my liquid, flaxseed gel as my leave in & seal with JBCO & shea butter (melted together). I keep my hair in twists during the week & only need to spray with the aloe & hibiscus 2/3 times during the week, (keeping the twists in & applying the JBCO mix to my edges). Hair still juicy at the end of the week. I wash with rhassoul clay, aloe vera powder & apple cider vinegar, then deep condition (adding some ayurevedic powders to the DC to enhance it). Chef's kiss 😙. Hair loving this new found regimen 💖. Xxx
@@paulettethompson1923 girrrrl I’m having a crush on your hair regimen/ingredients!! I use some of them already but love the idea of that hibiscus. I’m gonna add it to my aloe spray. Do you put any of your stuff on social media? I would follow you lol
Girl! Giiiiiiirrrrl! I tried this and my hair has NEVERRRRR been this juicy! I started with aloe vera gel then followed with flaxseed gel, then castor oil and THEN my moisturizer - I used Cantu Coconut Cream Curl Activator - then sealed up with my whipped butter. GIRL! Whaaaaat? I want to shout to all my 4c, high porosity girls out there that THIS is the truth! Whew chile! Let me whip my hair for a moment. LOL!
@@AfopeAtoyebi I'm still reeling. I have to share this on my [other] channel. I will tag you girl! I am so grateful for @zigbeswick for bringing your channel to my attention in her recent video! Thank you and keep the gems coming!
Every time I look at your video title, I think I know but when I click and watch... Mind Blown🤯. I've done so much research and thought I knew enough (coz every other video just states what I already know, hence believing that I know it all), but I'm always surprised at how much I actually don't know after watching your videos. And I'm also high porosity, and there is little to no representation😭💔. But your videos are enough to teach a nation. I think I've found my holy grail❤️.
Aaaand that's the difference between people (a whole professional trichologist in this case!) who are doing research, learning, and educating, and people who are repackaging and reposting the same info for clicks. The real ones always have more to teach us and generally don't repeat themselves. As far as straight education on hair care goes, it's Afope, Curly Chemistry and GlamFam Hair and Beauty for me.
Was just about to comment about Curly Magic. I think like the first ingredient is aloe, and it got nettle and marshmallow root within the first 5 ingredients.
@@latishamitchell52 in my experience by itself it doesn't flake but doesn't go that well with a lot of leave in or other products. It goes together with other products from it's line of course but it does ok with some Creme of Nature products (mostly the argan oil line). In general to know if two products go together I take a drop from each product and mix it on the back of my hand and if they don't go on smooth and form lil clumps it will flake in you hair.
Anyone looking to buy Camille rose products in the UK, the cheapest place I’ve seen thus far is Boots. It’s currently £11.99 for the curl love moisture milk.
@isabella demarko i think this is the thing for your dry hair, continued use of a leave in with a plant gel, i know you’ve used them before, but idk for how long so
This video is honestly so amazing! I wish people in the natural hair community were as well informed about hair like you are! And you’re from the UK which is a bonus haha ☺️ I’ve recently started spraying my hair with aloe Vera juice before adding my leave in, but now I’m excited to try the soultanicals leave in, seal with their supa potent oil and then style with the Kinky curly custard, hopefully soon when my bank account agrees with me lol
Wow God really led me to this video because I just spent the past couple of days researching film-forming humectants and this video you have made is a wealth of information. Also I agree that these film forming humectants really are something special. I feel I came to see this when I found my hair retained moisture for literals DAYS after I started to use Camille Rose's Aloe Whipped Butter Gel. Its the best moisturizer I have used to date! I could not understand why or how it was able to, especially since I have not loved Aloe Vera as the #1 ingredient in products as I felt it dried out and stiffened my hair but that Aloe Whipped Butter Gel really blows it out the park for me as a leave-in/moisturizer.
I have caucasian straight to wavy hair, bleached since I love dying my hair, and I love your videos because they help me a lot to know how to take better care of it. I love you and your channel. Thank you so much for all the good info and tips! Lots of hugs from Spain!🤗🤗🤗
UK Sis, you're out here saving our strands from dryness! 🙌🏿 I adore your content. You're that perfect blend of engaging and informative! I bought the Knot Sauce based on your recommendation / having 8 kinds of FFH and My Gawd! This leave-in is what my parched, high porosity hair was yearning for. I can't thank you enough. Love from Canada.
In case you're still checking comments on this video. The Mop Top Curly Hair Custard has soooo many film forming humectants. I have very fine, low porosity hair, and this stuff moisturizes and has a bit of hold, and does not weigh my hair down. It also doesn't look gross after 2 days - some hair products make my hair look so curly on day 1 but then by day 2-3 it looks like a greasy, sricky mess. But not this stuff!! My #1 hair product.
Why’s no one talking about the mielle organics pomegranate and honey custard? It has pectin, xanthan gum, hydroxyethycellulose and carrageenan and honey😍
Kinky curly knot today is a godsend!!! It works wonderfully for fine hair. I use that first and then later oyin handmade hair dew. With this combo I don’t need to re-moisturize my hair for the week
I’m hella late and this is a “white people” product but I SWEAR BY IT. Garnier Fructis Hydra Purity air dry cream. It’s Silicone free and contains glycerine, aloe Vera gel, aloe juice and cactus flower extract. I have never found another product that gives me this much slip!
Don’t call the police on me but some ‘white people’ products are legit. I hate to say it but treseme is one of my stapes. I’ll take myself to the police station now 👀
I guess youtube took out the direct message function, so I really hope you see this message but I want to thank you so much! My hair was so dry and brittle. I watched tutorial after tutorial. I tried combo after combo. I tried product after product but my hair would still be matted to my head the next day. Wash N Gos only lasted for a day or a half and it took hours to detangle and condition and moisturize just for it to be dry and crispy the next day. After watching your channel, I purchased some of the products you listed and the difference is game changer. I felt so ugly before with my natural hair. I was really about to just start wearing it straight again. I dont mind wearing it straight but I always have this fear that the straight hair smells bad faster. Any how thank you for your research. You saved my hair. I really didn´t think anything could help me. I wish I could send a before and after photo. Now I have bouncy beautiful juicy curls that I am proud to rock! SELF ESTEEM ON HIGH!
All facts! Im high porosity. I only really apply products on washday. These ingredients she talks about hold me down pretty much a full week ...even in a loose wash and go state rather than in my bun or twists (under a wig). I reapply flax seed gel mixture and castor oil mixture to re-lay my edges daily or to re-slick the outside of my bun as needed. If i need to stretch my washday cause im busy or having sinus issues and dont wanna wet my head, i steam and add a bit more gel as needed on day 6, 7 or 8 and i can get a whole nother week of moisturized hair.
The camille rose leave in is the 1st cream I was really happy about. I have low porosity hair very coarse and the product was absorbed into my hair and leaving it soft and moisturized as well as helping with detangling
Irish moss is a seaweed found in the Caribbean. We normally use it for drinks. However what is that it is cheap. Clean, soak and blend. Just go to the Caribbean shop. Then go online. No waste since you can use in your food, drinks, dilute it and water your plants so there is no waste.
I noticed the same thing and I use a DIY sort of Uncle Funky's daughter: a leave in with marshmallow, horsetail, slippery elm or others like the kinky curly knot today or Cantu curl activating cream, followed by plain aloe vera gel with just some seaweed extract as a thickener (it comes like that). Works very well.
On the verge of relaxing cause I’m sick of knots and tangles and dryness, and decided to rifle through natural hair care videos for the millionth time …your. Videos are a godsend. I’ll be giving my natural hair another chance
I reviewed about 12 videos over the past weekend. I have quite a lot of products indicated in your videos, however, I was using incorrect applications. Now I'm reviewing the ingredients in the products and applying the correct categories where they belong. you have a great personality. Never boring! Much love!
I had been telling myself for a month that I needed to go back to using flax seed gel bc it gave the shiniest, softest hold for a whole week while also keeping my hair looking good. You just reinforced my intuition. Thank you for all of your research. Sally is selling the SOULTANICALS KNOT SAUCE.
I have no words!!!I had been chasing moisture and just recently found products that work. Lo and behold, when I looked at the ingredients I saw most of the film forming humectants you mentioned. I am a changed woman lol!
Hey, Afope! Thank you for these videos (knowledge for high porosity) Ive been natural for years and moisture was a struggle but not any more. My hair is truly thriving! I wanted to add to this list: Taliah Waajid's Apple Aloe and Coconut line and Uncle Funky's Daughter Curly Magic. I have aloe vera juice (organic) in my fridge and I have a protein/moisture hair regimen in place, oiling my scalp and sealing my hair with oils that have aloe, biotin, MSM, and other great ingredients (Camille Rose Cocoa Nibs oil) and Uniqurl Sealing Oil), and have been protective styling through the quarantine. I am truly amazed with the complete recovery of my hair. My hair loves protein. Who knew?! LOL Thank you so much!!! (High Porosity, Dense, 4a hair)
Just discovered this channel as i also have high porosity and i was just browsing and came to this university educator! WAW! Learn much more from you in 10 mins that a whole year in school!
I found this chanel accidentaly and iam loving your recipes and the way you are sharing your knowlege with us... i recently bought marsmallow root and now i know the best way to use it.... Lots of love from Maput❤❤😍
I just finished a bottle. I put some water in it transferred to a spray bottle and use as a refresher, (don't know my porosity/ type) but it is the truth
Thanks for sharing. One of my favourite leave-ins is The Mane Choice 3 in 1, I just checked the ingredients list 5 film forming humectants! Your amazing
After I bleached my hair my hair went from low porosity to high porosity. Now I make sure all my products have slippery elm, aloe Vera, marshmallow root and flax seed gel. I have to have 2, 3 or 4 of those products in my leave in, and styler. But the key is using avocado oil on top for me. Made all the difference in the world for my hair. Grape seed, almond and all those light oils left my hair crunchy! Thank you so much!!!
I use my shower steam remoisturize my hair too! I am using an aloe-based diy leave-in and it's working well. Now i know why. Thank you! Keep up the good work. 100,000 subscribers very soon!
😭😭 You can still apply some of these tips for healthy relaxed hair. And if you decide you want to give the natural hair thing another go then you can always transition. I may have to do a series on transitioning soon 🙈
Afope Atoyebi I legit decided to transition again after I watched your video & did some research on why black women are more likely to have uterine fibroids. Also bought some products with film forming humectants, been natural 5 years & I’m finally now getting it right. Thank you x
The best product I’ve ever used for my curls is uncle funky’s daughter curly magic gel. I just looked at the ingredients. Aloe, marshmallow, horsetail, and nettle. I could get away with using only this product. My hair lasts for days. It’s also vegan and cruelty free. 10/10 would recommend
Honestly, this method works. since i started adding the Camile Rose gel after the LCO method my hair has never felt this hydrated. I have 3 bottles of the gel in my stash just in case i run out during the lockdown . I am so grateful for this video. 💕
I found your channel on a store website where I was looking for a product and a lady said you recommended it. I saw I was subscribed to your channel already but I never saw your videos on my news feed. I’m so happy I found that comment.
Wow finally I have found a fellow high porosity sis that has finally given us one of the most informative goods stuff for our hair..finally!! Girl where have you been all my life 🤗🤗🥰 definitely a new subby for life..I thoroughly enjoyed this content..yeah i found out about the plant based humectants the hard way after a couple of disasters and wasted money on so many products.. 😂 yeah i avoid glycerin and coconut from all styling and moisturizing creams and it has been working for me 🤗🤗
I came here cos my daughter's hair is really dry and making it it always "war". i learnt alot today. Thanks. . cant wait to try them...by the way, you are so beautiful. i actually think we look alike..lol
I was over at Coily Diaries’ house and she spoke highly of you and suggested that I drop by. Needless to say, I’ve subscribed, oh, thank you for sharing.
Finally, a Tube for HP hair! I find most naturals with long hair are low porosity, because their hair retains moisture when in. As long as they follow a regime, they should be good. But HP hair girls have everything working against us. 😣 Thanks for the content.
Some cheaper leave ins with these awesome ingredients are aunt Jackie’s quench and lusters pink new Shea butter and coconut oil leave in conditioner. They are both around $6 for 12 oz.
@@shackeina11 no problem, I’m a broke college student so I understand the struggle. By the way the lusters one might be better for low porosity (has no protein) while the aunt Jackie’s might be better for high porosity.
I'm sooooo happy I've found your channel🤩. I luv the way you don't ask people to give a thumbs up or subscribe until your half way through the video 👍. And I've never heard a natural describe the few hours of moisture retention my hair has. This recently has been my single biggest hair challenge and now I feel I have a way to combat it. I truly thank you 💓
This is so helpful! I've been watching your channel non-stop and it's saved my hair, thank you so much! Do you think you could possibly do a video on coconut sensitivity and dandruff/seborrheic dermatitis?
I just read the ingredients list of my favorite leave-ins and all of them have at least one plant gel. And the ones I didn't like don't have any. Everything makes sense now! :O
I feel like this will be key for my hair. I've been using a lot of shea butter based products and actually, looking at the ingredients list of Shea Moisture's Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-in, probably too much protein as my hair feels so dry after I twist it. Not juicy at all anymore. Thank you!!
I realized shea butter/shea based products do not work that well for my hair. My hair is too fine for that and low porosity. All it does is create a film of buildup that makes it hard to remoisturize. Camille rose is the truth though. Same with mane choice. Glad I never got on the pure shea butter train
I found what I was looking for. I started to search for ways to take care of my hair some years ago and lately I've been feeling lost in so much information, not always accurate. All I want is to have a simple hair care routine, but everywhere I go is like "oh, you have to do this and this, use these products, also use those products and these ones too etc etc". And here I found that you can just apply plant gels and reactivate it simply with water. I'll try this, it's my last hope kkkkkkk
Curls unleashed leave in conditioner Creme, the one in the tub. It has hydroxyethylcellulose and plant butters/oils like Shea butter, olive oil and coconut oil.
I know many people in my country use the ratchet plant to moisturize their hair. I've seen many rastamen use it as well but I don't know what else they add to it. And their hair is crazy long, strong and healthy!
I made the mixture using slippery elm and marshmallow root. It was amazing . the best detangler ever!! I used it on my friends hair and her daughter and she was floored. I am a believer
Thought I would add some products as this video and concept changed the health of my families hair by far. This is the science behind some of the black girl curls products that I was missing- leave ins: soultanicals mango slip, the mane choice heavenly halo ( the entire line has film forming humectants), custard: Mielle coil custard, Innersense I create hold. Brands like soultanicals have embraced these ingredients in a lot of their products. Anywho just thought I would add some products.
