I bought a few of these. I have 3 various sized roosters. My large rooster hated it plus it made his neck feathers stick out and looked odd. My polish rooster went into a depression and would stand all day facing the wall. A few days later his bottom beak got caught in it. The instructions say that there should be enough room to put your pinkie finger in the gap. Id rather hear crowing that have depressed birds. Hi from the Scottish Highlands :-)
As an NPIP certified breeder of Sultans, Ayem Cemani, Silkies and Cochins I have to tell you this practice is fairly cruel. It prevents the rooster from doing his job. That crow is more than just a noise. It is a necessary call to warn predators in the area "I will f*ck you up if you mess with my girls" and to let the ladies know he is fertile. They actually lay less fertile eggs if a roo is wearing a crow collar.
Honestly, I've never understood why the hate on crowing roosters. They blast me with their thumping base music, their dogs bark and howl constantly, and they argue and shout and scream till weird o' clock in the morning...so what's the problem with roosters?
They are incredibly loud! Also they start at 4 a.m., so forget about sleeping with opened window, 3 layers of glass are necessary, unless you work from 6 a.m. I want to kill that bastard every day.
They are LOUD and it is not a melodious way to wake up at 4am when it's still dark outside. It's not like they just crow once and go back to sleep...it continues for hours. I don't make any loud noises to upset my neighbours at any time of the day so I would hope they return the favour.
cynthia brennemann:They say that if you switch your mind to the most positive++ level possible, none of this sh** will bug you!,u can literally sleep right next to the honking trains’ tacks and you’ll sleep like a baby. The problem is letting sh**💩get into our head.
Right, but you can bet that neighbors will complain loudly about the rooster before they do the dog. They will also report without having the decency to talk to you. It happened to me. I was reported for having poultry on a lot that was, at the time, slightly too small. He claimed that I was housing roosters. I wasn't. The guy next door to him WAS. I had a handful of hens and live several houses down, so he likely never even heard an egg song from my girls. I agree that barking dogs are the bigger issue, but neighbors can get seriously petty over chickens.
Right!!! My neighbor's dogs are literally about ten feet from my bedroom window...maybe not ten, but darn near close.... Every morning, 6 am, the dogs are out before my neighbors go to work, and they're barking. (The dogs...bit the neighbors )....anyway, I have never ever complained or even really been bothered by it, because I told myself from the get go that I wouldn't let it bother me.... But nowwwww we have a roo ... Let's see if the courtesy is handed back to me..even though, we will be getting a collar anyway.
At 3:30 am??? And crowing for at least a couple hours! That's what time our neighbors roosters starts every am! If it were 7am no problem though! Not everyone works the same hours as well. Some ppl get home at 3am after working a night shift. So being woken up every am at 3:30 doesn't work for my neighborhood with the exception of the inconsiderate rooster owner!
I have a red jungle fowl and he crows about 5 to 6 times morning and like 3 times in the afternoon and my neighbor complains. His dog barks everyday non stop which kindof make my dog barks and we dont complain
Thank you for sharing. Yes, Roosters are important. There is an English gardener who has a Roo and she puts him in a dark box at bed time, then let’s him out at 9am. Her neighbors don’t complain, because he’s quiet until then. I love Roos.
Here coileachs were frequently put in a creel - lobster creel - on a Saturday night. This reduced the space for the cockerel to stretch its neck and so kept it quiet. It would be let out a bit later on Sunday morning. This was so family and neighbours wouldn't be woken so early.
@@dirtbeard108 You call your own pigs shit? Guess you're just as cold as me eh? What's your favorite way of slaughtering them? I personally like to slowly slit their throats, although their squeals annoy me so I often kick them while they bleed out
Hey all, I'm in the burbs and have a roo that is a pain in the ain. 6.17 am he fires up. I fixed the problem good. I bought 12 hay bales and basically built a square hay igloo with a hay bale door that just gets pushed in place in the cavity I made as a door way. So it works like this, 6.17 am he crows 6.18 am I get up , catch him and place him in the igloo. This igloo works like a sound room, deadens the noise he makes, you can still hear him but greatly muffled. Oh yeah one other thing , try not to forget the little bugger in there all day. This is really only for the morning, when we humans are particularly sensitive to early painful wake up calls. Hope this helps.
I used that exact collar. My roo tried to pull it off. He managed to hook one of his toes in it and couldn't get it out! He toppled backwards off his roost. Luckily he didn't get hurt- but if I wasn't watching him he would have spent the night in discomfort and maybe even been traumatized or died. This thing has to be very carefully fitted! It can't be too tight or too loose. I now have 3 roosters. I just keep them inside until 9 am. If anyone complains (to the town) I tell them that my property is legally grandfathered for my "chicken business" and I have a legal agreement with the town that states that my roosters can crow as much as they want after 9 am. I had to go to court to get the variance (cost nothing. I didn't hire a lawyer). The town didn't want to "fight" me and spend municipal dollars on court expenses so the town attorney sternly instructed the zoning dept to come to an agreement with me regarding a variance. The fact is, people get used to hearing roosters and many like it. As I said my roos are not let out into the yard until after 9- everybody has gone to work. And after the late afternoon roosters are pretty quiet unless there is a predator hanging around. I keep them in large dog crates inside. Believe it or not all my roosters come inside on their own. I don't have to chase them or catch them. I've trained them to want to come inside just to get a cup of special rooster food and blueberries. Any roosters that I can't train or that aren't "good" protectors I re-home. My roos sit quietly all night like fat kings on their throne. They can hear the hens and they only crow if there is some commotion. Some roosters have "annoying" crows and other roosters have a bell-like crow. I don't think it has anything to do with breeds or even genetics. It seems to be more the luck of the draw. Now for many years I had an Amazon parrot that was in a cage on my 2nd fl porch in the summer. He screamed all day. No rooster I've ever had was nearly as bad as my parrot! Not only would my parrot scream- if some kids yelled "shut-up stupid!" or "shut the hell up!" he'd screech "SHUT UP! SHUT UP!" I'm really glad roosters can't talk!
I stopped using this device on my rooster...yes it muffles his call,,, i found if he eats something big--- say a piece of dog kibble... he cant swallow it....CHOKING CHICKEN....not cool
mark vanleeuwen Oh really? That's interesting. I've been wanting to try these collars but have been afraid to. Not so much of choking but don't you have to take them off sometimes, like when he's molting so the feathers can grow back, or just so he can groom himself? I'd be afraid of him picking up lice or mites if he can't dust himself and take care of his feathers and skin.
@@NavvyMom You're supposed to take them off at night. If the one I made ends up working out, I'll be taking it off mine an hour before dusk when I bring him inside to sleep, and I'll let him out later in the morning, so he'll have a few hours to groom without it on......he was choking and sad when I tried it a day ago, so it seems horrible, but I can't have a rooster where I live, so this is the only solution.
If you have plenty of land I don't see the problem but you should see our neighborhood in Florida. There's like 1-3 roosters freely walking around crowing at all times of the morning. In a RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD. I swear to God if I get the chance to catch one in the road I'ma floor it and send that m'fkr to alarm clock hell. I wish I knew who in the area thinks they get to decide when the whole neighborhood has to wake up.
Great, now the rooster can't alert to the hens that there is danger near by and to take cover. Roosters have different calls for different predators. If it's a sky predator like a hawk, they will give out a certain call that tells the hens to run under some cover so the hawk can't see or grab them. If it's a ground predator, snake, fox, racoon, weasel the rooster gives out a different call and the hens respond by flying up to a roost/branches to get away from the ground predator. Now your poor rooster is next to useless. If he can't get enough air to crow properly, he wont be able to breathe enough air in to run and protect his flock against enemies. He will be starving for air and fall victim to the predator himself because he can't supply his body with enough air for fast activity. This collar is a bad idea. Get it off the rooster.
It's always so surprising to realize people don't care about getting close to nature..have we really become so far removed from anything natural ? Have we isolated ourselves so much that the crowing of roosters is intolerable? Wow..maybe Covid-19 will bring people back to their senses I hope so. I plan to keep some chickens in the back yard and maybe a rooster too.
Chocking a rooster is not an answer. There are other rooster breeds that are more quiet than others, like for example a Cochin will be more quiet than a barred rock. Plus how the rooster is raised will effect is personality. If it is a indoor family pet, the outcome of its personality if more quiet and docile.

@@joni3503 you absolutely can eat them. There is no difference in nutrition or quality between a fertile egg and a non fertile egg. You can tell a fertile egg if it has a tiny white spot in the yolk.
Well, he does have a point though. Don't get me wrong, so do I but imagine somebody who doesn't like birds or needs to sleep in, it's never fun to be woken up early.
Looks like his beak was clipped? I hope it's just the camera angle . Perhaps owning a rooster is better left to folks in the country where we don't have to abuse our fowl.
Thanks for the informative video, bought my son a chicken that was supposed to be a female, but is now starting to look like a rooster. Not getting rid of it if it is a rooster, as he/she and my son are inseparable friends; so looking for ways to keep him without the neighbours having a moan or the council making us get rid of him. Btw, your rooster is beautiful😍✌🏼🙏🏼
Bring him in the house in the evening and keep him large dog kennel with bedding, food and water, and cover the cage with a blanket so he doesn't see any light. In the morning, after 9 am take him outside to his outdoor pen. Some chickens adapt very well when they can come inside, it gives them a break from harsh weather.
I’m shocked that someone has actually thought of a way to keep roosters quiet. I grew up in Romania and I can’t imagine a rural house with no roosters. Rooster crows are the definition of rural life. My grandma used to have two roosters every year (if you keep more, they’ll be in a fight all day and hurt one another). Whenever I was going on holiday, yes I could hear them early in the morning, but it wasn’t unbearable, and to complain would have been pointless anyway because that’s nature, all the houses had roosters and the idea of a no crow collar would not have crossed anyone’s mind. Plus, after two or three days, you get so used to them you actually don’t wake up anymore. Or you hear them but you just ignore them and continue to sleep.
People here around cities aren't used to it sometimes, so when they go from hearing nothing, to the birds being pretty loud, it tends to bother them, and gets chalked up as a town disturbance, and therefore you can be fined for having them.
I know people that I would put that collar on. I have seven roosters and I love the sound of the crowing. Actually, people who would "collar" their roos are the same people that would circumcise their male/female children and shave their bodies in order to pretend they are not animals. Perpetuators of the supernatural don't you know. LMAO
Roosters crow for a reason, it's to protect their flock from possible dangers. If your rooster is crowing consistently, maybe turn your focus to what's making him so nervous instead of choking him out of doing his job.
Roosters crow to show off and establish dominance in a flock ( and just to be a-holes) , they growl to alert to danger and they coo to flirt with the girls. The collars do not interfere with any of this, they just make the crowing a little easier to handle at 3am.
I tired the velcro before because of the cost, but the down side of that is that it cuts up the roosters neck. I noticed that he had scabs on his neck from the velcro. I don't know if the ones you buy are softer on the roosters neck., but if it is than I feel that it's the smarter buy. Also I never knew how tight to make it without actually choking the rooster. Any advise on this subject would be appreciated. I don't want to harm the rooster. I don't have anymore now but I do want to have a rooster in the future so I can produce more chickens. I know the video mentions how small to make it but more opinions are always helpful. Thank you for the video.
I know it's super late, but my sister used to put a cat collar (soft, so it never hurt em.) on our bantam silky rooster (mean little thing), and he wouldn't crow at all, after.
At least this guy is courteous to his neighbors. I've asked my neighbors twice and they just don't care if the rooster keeps me up. But I they get sleep at night because the rooster's aren't damn near at their back window
Basically you’re choking your chicken. Pun intended. But hey really. Don’t ever do this to a chicken. You can cause it to be “crop bound,” or any other number of ailments.
I'm gonna buy one for my neighbors idiots who never actually lived by a rooster. rooster DO NOT ONLY CROW AT SUNRISE AND SUNDOWN! THEY CROW ALL DAMN DAY AND NIGHT EVERY 5 SECONDS!! NO EXAGGERATION ANNOYING AF!!
yeah me too I'm in Mississippi, but they have the rooster all the way at the end of the property so they dont have to hear and right next to my house SMH
I never have a problem with my neighbors I don't know but having a pool of alligators is a good thing for maintaining peace in the neighborhood and not to mention discipline children
@@xe8309 Why would you say that? That person is obviously kidding. Can't you take a joke? And actually there is the rare alligator that DOES make a good pet, or at least has a strong bond with its human.
There's a prophetic tradition in Islam that when the rooster crows,he sees an angel, they have different eye vision, they can see above ultra violent ray.
I have three... Amberlinks. I free range during the day in NH but coop them for night. Love them. One is tame.... and they're so beautiful with the cream base feathers flecked with brown. Love my boys... when my truck and I pull into the yard, they come running! Forgot to add: they're great foragers and have reduced our tick and grasshopper population a great deal. Lovely roosters!
Ticks this year are everywhere near my house. The chickens love it when we come home from a hike because we put any ticks on us into a bucket and pour it into the coop. They will also eat a tick right off our dog’s back if they see one.
Thank you for your efforts in making an informative video about roosters. The slight problem is that this is not healthy and not a solution. Be one with nature and not work against it. If you cannot allow the rooster to fully express himself then don't get one. You are limiting the rooster. He will not perform well. Roosters are dominant creatures. This will shame him and humility him
I have a slipshod which moved in on top of me, after my peaceful life in the county for 23 years…brought with him about 7-8 roosters. They crowed non-stop, every single day from 0230 am- 4pm…HOURS and HOURS for right at three years. All the while, peanut head did absolutely nothing about it. Talking about insanity. It was pure rooster hell! I couldn't care less about a rooster now. if I never eat another damn piece of chicken my entire life because roosters are needed for fertilization, that’s fine.
@@nowirehangers2815 right!!!! I can’t even begin to explain the depth those fools disrupted my wife and I’s soul for those three years. Long story- I should have purchased the property. It took five deputies (different calls), a letter to the Lieutenant of the Pitt County Sheriffs office, a Sergeant and email converse with the County Attorney advising him of the laws in the books. They just wanted to be sorry and not get involved. Ive always said, if you don’t want to work, become a sheriff deputy. The County attorney attempted to play me- but we just stayed the course. Lots of prayer and persistency- finally someone did something about it. These past 6-8 years have been pure hell in more ways than one in the earth, with being exposed to those flatulents part of it . I learned three things- Disgusting slipshods are real, God will rattle a fool and roosters can lose their heads.
No no 5:30 in the morning it's fine it's a normal time for a rooster to be crowing at 1:45 to 2 a.m. to all day is a completely different story that's what the neighbors don't like
My house is close to the main road of the neighborhood. My surrounding neighbors do not seem to have issues with my chickens, but we do have some nosy neighbors who allegedly work for HOA and will knock on my door if they hear or smell chickens. I wish they gave the same courtesy to chickens as they do to some barking dogs.
Get smaller breeds. They are quieter and more friendly. I have Seramas and my roo is a sweetheart. Im getting another roo. I have 5 hens who weigh 1/2 pound each..the roo is tiny also. Almost a pound.
Omg, intro is for no reason so long! practise before recording. Wow what a piece of rubbish to advertise! A rooster crows, thats what it does, why do we have to do weird stuff to animals, just so that they fit in with our lifestyle. What's next? Velcro for crying babies? Sorry this kind of crap really upsets me, just seems so unnecessary, cruel & uncomfortable
Hi there! How has the collar worked out for you long-term? I've got a little guy I can't find a home for yet and I bought a no crow collar to keep the peace (I'm in the city with very close neighbors) until I can find him a good home. Curious to see if you were able to use the collar long-term. 😀
In our flock of 20 (including 2 turkeys) we only have one rooster. I don't mind him crowing at all :) the turkeys call when they see me feeding the horses or pulling out of the shop haha, I just don't mind at all.
When your rooster is siri Me: hey rooster, can you set the alarm to wake me up at 5 in the morning? Rooster:.................................. 10 hours later..... Rooster: *Alarm*
A rooster was crowing during the volcanic eruption in Hawaii. Lava and toxic gases spewing out and a rooster just crowing away. I guess he was warning everyone to get out. Glad he wasn't wearing a rooster collar.
I really want one of these but i live in the city with neighbors! My neighbors were nice enough to let us get chickens i dont know about a rooster tho lol
My neighbors like the rooster crow. It's less noisy than dogs and cats and planes (all nightly hours) and it reminds them of farm life, something most people like.
Does it actually work because it really need to because I want to create my own chicken breed and for that I need a few roosters and I live in the middle of the town
50/50. In my experience, a loose cat collar can have the same effect. But an animal will always come with unpredictable variables, as they don't follow any concrete rules, so expect some stragglers.
too bad I only know about that collar recently ... I had the sweetest Marans rooster that never attacked his hens or me but he was a rooster and it crows ofcourse , not one neighber could stand the poor guy and I had to get rid of him , now I just found out they only wanted him for mating once and killed him for no reason at all . If I knew about this I would have bought that stuff right away , thanks for this info and hey guess what , screw the neighbors , I am back to holding a roo !
I tried crow collars on my roosters. Never again! I lost one of my favourites to choking. He'd been wearing it quite happily for months. I removed his brother's collar because one time after eating he began to choke. My favourite choked overnight.
That's because Amazon sellers sell a lot of stuff that is marked up heavily to make up for that "free shipping" and also because there are a lot of suckers who shop on Amazon that think that everything in Amazon is the lowest price.
We sell the hens of ours that are loudest twice a year....easier to sell them and replace them with new ones that are quiet.....We always raise a few extra chicks so that once they start laying, you can assess who is quiet and who is noisy....then sell the noisy ones and keep the quiet ones....
I live in nyc borough, three highways, and two airports make more noise than ten roosters, so I can't sleep with open windows. That all human made noise okay, but nature's not allowed, right?
I really hate the roosters that are in the backyard, I live in a house for rent and the owners are living in a different side but still same house and they have roosters I can't do anything about, I literally have a window right to the backyard
or you could just kill it,ive never seen a rooster crow once it's dead, that's probably less cruel to the rooster than velcro around its neck ever day all day , don't be creul, Americans really love to give us the 101 on things and to just talk and talk, they'll give us their life story in a video about small topics like 5 good stretches etc, or a video titled how to fix winsheild whippers they'll say how to fix winsheild whippers on your car, cars have been around for well over a hundred years most people will own several cars in their life time bla bla bla,
@@NavvyMom That I understand. I honestly dont understand why I got so angry at everybody after watching this. There is a solution to the problems people continue to bring up, but the stupid people wont see that because they are too focused on the problem to see the solution. There is no fixing that.
Very interesting. I just got a little Bantham Rooster. It's going at it all day and I have close neighbours. Think I'll try this, otherwise it has to be a sound proofed coup.
This collar is bullshit! You are actually harming your rooster by giving him a sore throat! And stopping his natural instincts of crowing, which is important to him! This is really cruel! Nobody complains about a rooster crowing during the day. It is the early mornings, that people complain ....ONLY! I love my rooster and his crowing, but not at 04:30 am!! So I found a way to stop him from waking us up at that time! Get a vegetable cardboard box, the ones with the big oval holes on each side. I let him go to bed with the hens, but when I go to sleep I put him into the box with straw and with the lid on. The lid prevents him from stretching his neck enough to crow! No crowing, because he can't lift his head high enough. Works brilliantly! He is so used to this now, he is not complaining and peace has returned, LOL. This velcro is too dangerous for the delicate neck and crop!
I think that's Cruel. ! Our neighbors had a rooster across the alley, and he crowed 10 to 15 times a day and 5-6 times between 12am and 4am.. He was all by himself, no girls. After a month. I went to the police. ! He was relocated and one man thanked me.
PLEASE DON'T USE THESE. The feathers grow DOWN and that thing pushes them the wrong way - all day long. Being continually poked by the inner ends of the feathers. And you know those aren't SMALL.
sir, 1st thing: why do you care for your neighbours complaints? 2nd thing: try put this thing on your own throat and keep it a while if you are about to use this thing it's better you will give this rooster to someone who won't do that. he is not happy, putting something to squeeze his throat is nothing but abuse. if my neighbours would came complain I'd said 'dude, I can't help it, it's rooster, be glad it's not some dog barking under your window all day long (or even night)" my heart is broken seeing your rooster's sad eyes..... this is awful, it's better to learn how to explain neighbours this is what roosters do than doing such awful thing, this is living being after all.
Warning: these collars can kill. My rooster wore his for 2 weeks with good results for the noise but one morning we found him choked out in the coop. And only then I looked up and found many similar reports. Do your own research.
I used a no crow collar on my rooster he was crowing low , but today April 12th I found him dead in my chicken coop. I felt so sad, my wife cried, because we like him. I'm raising 5 chicks from one chicken, and I have two more sitting in their nests. fortunately one will be a boy. I will find a way to put him in the corner, where I aislated my chicken with her chicks, and put wood around so he doesn't see the sun rise till 7am., then he can crow.
I paid over $20 for the exact same collar. I also bought a pack of three pretty cheap on eBay that work just as well if not better. In my pack of three were 3 different widths. Sometimes one works best then again another works best. I hate keeping him in it all the time, so if not too many people are around or there is another noise that’s loud I’ll remove it.
I've been reading the reviews on Amazon. The new ones that are just Velcro. Have a ninety percent chance of killing the Rooster if it's tight enough to keep them quiet...
Wish we could see this in action. We love then but I don't want them waking me up at 4am. Neither do my neighbors babies and school aged kids. So, they always get sent to the butcher. And that makes me sad. Hope this works
