This video shows how I used a 1/2 salt and 1/2 baking soda mixture to get rid of the fleas in my house. I also gave my cat, Charlie, garlic. Before that, I tried diatomaceous earth, which did help somewhat, but not until the garlic did we have true success in getting rid of them. Here's how I did that: • How to Apply Diatomace...
Fleas suck. I’m sorry you’re here if you have a flea problem. I understand the desperation. I understand the exhaustion. I’ve been there - two times in less than a year. I created this page to have all the natural flea control options that are out there compiled in one place. I wish I would have found this when I was where you are. That’s why I created it. Please share it, and please share it widely.

This by far is thee best tutorial on treatment for carpets. I've been searching for utube for days and I love this one. Took in a stray beautiful kitten just for 5 hours (that was enough- then dropped off kitten to her new home) but the next day my friend calls & says she has fleas! Yikes I have 3 cats & I'm immediately scratching as we're taking. ( That's just how I am) Well long story short I've done the white sock test & dish with Dawn and tea light etc .. nothing. But I did call the vet & we got Credilio (chewable tablets for our 3 cats) I now know that I'm not going to use that again (no side effects) but I want to do natural treatment. So we took all 3 of them a dawn bath and then following week a coconut oil rub. Vacuuming with baking soda & salt every 3 days for carpet & furniture, my homemade lemon spray. Don't for get to treat your vehicles (I had the kitten in the car ride for over 1 1/2 hours from where I had to pick her up. So I used the baking soda & salt in my car as well. I also spray in my car lavender (not in my house cause I hear it's toxic for cats?) I don't see any evidence of fleas (month later) but I'm still itching? No bite marks, I think I'm just mentally disturbed when I hear or think about little effen creatures once invaded my home, I have post trauma🤣🤣 I wonder if I'm the only one like that? (Btw my husband never felt itchy or anything during all the treatments so why did I??😊)

Yes, definitely on treating your vehicles! How did you do that? Ha ha on feeling itchhy - thank goodness I don't - i just get mad now with them. I have been using Wondercide’s flea and tick spray for indoors to prevent them in the first place. I have my husband spray his lower pant legs and shoes with it just before he goes out to mow the lawn or weed whack. It is amazing, but we have had NO fleas for the last two summers and we both know that it is that spray. In any case, I hope you never get them!!

I am using DE on my cats and some in their food. It is a mess on the carpets or their sleeping spaces. I might try the baking soda and salt in the carpets and on the rugs and see how it goes. Both DE and salt/baking soda are inexpensive. I have 8 kitties and 2 do go out in the back yard and over my board fence and into a veritable jungle due to one neighbor who is a real hum dinger and she has junk everywhere, old cars, an old boat and she never mows or cuts a tree limb. So, there is who knows what kinds of varmits over in there! These 2 kitties get so stressed if they cant go outside and over into that jungle. The rest of the cats are in the house but the 2 who go out have brought us all some fleas this summer. 😕 Thanks a bunch for showing us how to do the salt and soda flea killer! Your ragdolls are just beautiful!! ❤

Thanks it is day 3 and it seems to be working. Some important notes though. About 12 hours after application in noticed an increase in fleas jumping onto my socks. About 24 hours after fleas declined in numbers. 3 days later the only flea I found was over hardwood. Surprised it worked. Another note for application, I found a large broom was the easiest way to spread it. Thanks again, wish I woulda known about this a month ago and avoided a ton of stress.

You're welcome - but you need to treat the environment, the puppy and hopefully outside. What all are you doing? See everything I do here: www.floppycats.com/flea-control.html Wash everything the puppy lays on - or vacuum it really well, but down the salt and baking soda, then put a towel over it, and just keep re-washing the towel without having to vacuum over and over again. But I do usually vacuum for at least 3 weeks every day until I see no more fleas.

I battled fleas in a place I moved into by using very fine Himalayan sea salt sprinkled everywhere after vacuuming. I would leave it on for a few days and we would walk in it and I think that distributed it further into the carpet and floors. Our movement disturbed the eggs so they hatch, so that helps. It was a battle for sure that took many applications. I had to flea comb constantly and I did try Wondercide as a spray on fabrics. I did break down and use a topical because I couldn’t take it….BUT the garlic I may try. Unfortunately I moved from that place and now I am going through it ALL over again. Not easy!!!! I am going to start my new attack on the problem. So much info out there. Thanks for the video. We are in Georgia and it’s peak season here. I have found when living in the country, flea topicals work better. My theory is that in more Urban areas the fleas have been exposed to way more chemical treatments and are more hardy and difficult to treat. Question: what do you do to treat tapeworms from the fleas? Death to all fleas!! Don’t forget about treating for fleas in your vehicles!
@Floppycats
@Floppycats 10 месяцев назад
amen about the death to all fleas. i am not sure why this video is doing so well on youtube, but i am glad it is because i keep getting flea ideas from it. sooo interesting what you said about the super fleas in urban areas adapting to all the chemicals they have to fight in order to survive - survival of the fittest makes sense. i created this page - and collected all the data (and add to it when i find something new) - www.floppycats.com/flea-control.html I have not had a tapeworm problem, so haven't had to address that. but I would probably reach out to Pam of Purrrfectly Holistic and ask. Here's my interview with her: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pvief37rE-s.html
@don2deliver
@don2deliver 8 месяцев назад
For tapeworm it is best to vacuum or shake off outside the bedding they sleep on to get ride of the dried worm segments. I use white towels. Ivermectin topical can reduce the rate of reproduction of the segments. But the most stubborn cases require Prazaquantel, which will knock them out with one dose. There is a dog medicine that can also be used on cats but you may have to use it 2 ot 3 days in a row, it is called Prosense dewormer and has only one active ingredient. It comes in powder packets. Some people say to put a couple drops of apple cider vinegar in their water bowl, but I never had that reduce fleas or tapeworm.

I've not heard of this before, but will definitely look into this. Unfortunately my cats are no longer with me but they have left me with a legacy of fleas, (not noticeable over the winter months). Only now very visible in the early spring months, obvious from eggs/larvae. My ankles are covered in bite marks. I manage to catch around 10 to 15 per day but I would just love to get rid of them once and for all. Fed up purchasing so called miracle powders for my carpets which clearly don't work. I run the salt through a Nutri-bullet and it does a good job at reducing the number of fleas. This is the first time I've heard about using baking powder with it, so I'll make a new batch with some this weekend. My neighbor has a feral cat colony that use my backyard as a sunning area and walkway to other yards, so fighting fleas is pretty much year-round. My cats (indoor only) don't get heavily infested, but my poor dog will get bald spots when they get really bad because he has to go out into the backyard with the ferals. Here's hoping this helps with the fleas. Thanks!

Curious to know if your kitties developed any respiratory issues during treatment (sneezing or coughing, etc). I’m genuinely curious because our single indoor-only kitty recently had fleas. What is the product you used outside in the trees? We also have raccoons living somewhere nearby.

No, they did not. we had two flea infestations in a year's time. last October and then in July. I've rescued hundreds of cats and made them housecats. My cats have everything they need inside, food treats playscapes, toys plus they love me. I am their focus. Outside is just chasing bugs, grass wildlife and living on the edge of survival dodging cars, kids, predators. It's exciting but not healthy. Cats die every hour from outside danger. Rethink your analogy.❤

@Floppycats 9 месяцев назад
yes, mine go outside - but they haven't since July when we got another flea infestation. and now i am waiting for their bodies to recover. i am putting down cedarcide and nematodes every other week, preparing the outside. also, thinking about putting out canned cat food for raccoons and possums that has garlic in it, to get the fleas off of them and out of my yard. ha ha. mine hate being brushed or combed, so it would be daily torture. i am worried about charlie being depressed. but so far he's pretty ok - but still asking to go out. i wish i could do it - but am going to wait until it freezes.

Yes, that makes sense. I'm waiting for the cold weather to reduce the fleas outside. I've got a system of lots of remedies and those flea trap things around the house is really good for killing fleas on the sticky pad at night. I'ld say I only comb out about 5 fleas a day for each cat, if that. I moved to Ohio from New Mexico and forgot about fleas being a part of the humid scene, so I got into prevention too late for this season. I'll try cedarcide and Nematodes like you suggest. I know it's risky to keep them inside all the time. But I live in a pretty safe area and they are CATS, ....animals who instinctually need the outdoors to live naturally. Everyone has to come to their own peace about indoor/outdoor issue. Thanks for your support, Floppy. @@Floppycats

Plant Based formula Kills Fleas, Flea Larcae, Flea Eggs & Ticks. Made with Peppermint Oil and Eugenol. I've put a little on different spots each day for the last 4days and Flea comb her at least 3 times a day. And still would find a Flea or two. Today I put it on all of her body except around eyes, nose genitals . And found no fleas tonight. I tried chopping a little bit of garlic in putting it in her food but turned her nose up to it😩 So I'm going g to try ordering the capsuls n try the way you do it. How do you get your cat to eat garlic
@Seuk_Seuk
@Seuk_Seuk 15 дней назад
My dog has never had fleas until now (she was on revolution for 13 years) so her and I are both struggling with it. She’s 15 and has hind leg problems so getting her to the vet isn’t even an option at this point in her life unless she’s completely sedated to the point where she’s TKO & I can pick her up without getting mauled 🥴 - and as we all know, we can’t get sedatives without having the vet see the pet first before prescribing anything so I’m out of luck with that 😢 I did try the salt and baking soda but didn’t know that I had to blend the baking soda and salt in a blender to form it into a powder. I just poured it all over my carpets and that didn’t seem to help but it’s probably because I was doing it wrong. I ended up using diatomaceous earth on my carpets today and used a soft bristle brush to rub it in. I also rubbed it all over my dog. She hasn’t tried to scratch or constantly shake or abruptly wake up in her sleep so I think it’s working but not 100% sure. I’m still iffy with the garlic but if the DE on my dogs coat doesn’t work as well as I would like it to, then I might have to just try giving a small amount of garlic every other day. Because my dog is considered a geriatric, I’ve been trying natural remedies to eliminate fleas because I really don’t want to give her anymore toxins. I’ve made a spray of essential oils with cedar wood and apple cider vinegar and that didn’t seem to help after a week of constant use - she actually became really irritated and annoyed with me every time I tried to use a flea comb so now we’re trying DE. I read in a few articles that maintaining a balanced pH and building up their immune system helps to repel fleas in both dogs and cats so I started incorporating coconut oil, ACV, salmon oil and medicinal mushrooms into her meals as well. It might help with your furbabies too! I think I’ll try the salt and baking soda again and maybe alternate the two. I’m just not sure how long to keep the DE on her coat though. I’m dreading giving her a bath because the last time didn’t go so well and I wasn’t able to kill off all the fleas. I will unfortunately have to use a waterless shampoo moving forward because I’m not trying to aggravate an old and grumpy dog. As sad as it is to say this and as horrible as it might sound, I feel a bit better knowing that I’m not the only one going through this. I’m super thankful for videos like this because it helps learning from others who are going through the same issues as my dog and I are and finding ways to get rid of these pesky and irritating parasites naturally.

Have you seen Our Free Guide to Flea Prevention & Treatment ? floppycats.co/flea You've gotta tackle the environment on all levels - washing, vacuuming, etc. Putting the salt and baking soda down only helps to slow down the need to vacuum - so like beginning of flea season, i will put this under my couches, chairs, etc so i don't have to move them the rest of flea season. but it's a ton of work to get rid of fleas, for sure. and if you can spray your outdoor environment that's huge too - 95% of the flea population is NOT on your pet.

I noticed 2 different sizes on the capsules on your list, #3 and #4. Is the size to be used determined by the weight of the cat, and if so, what are the weights that determine which size to use, please? Is it the salt that kills the fleas or the baking soda? The reason I ask is, because squirrels have left a lot of fleas in the plants on my patio, and I need to know how to kill the fleas in the pots in a way that wouldn't harm any visiting squirrels or birds or other wildlife. After that, I would like to dump the potting soil with the dead fleas and larva, scrub out the pots with your mixture and use the pots and new soil to replant my "garden." The apartments cut down the lovely apple tree that gave us birds and squirrels to watch and provided beautiful pink blossoms in the spring before filling up with apples that drew the deer when they fell. They could have fed a lot of people. When I looked at all those apples scattered thickly all over the ground when they cut down my tree, I was horrified at the waste. Also, no more privacy. The four apartments at the top of the hill now have a clear view into my living room, and dining room with no tree between us anymore at any time of the day or night. . They kept their trees. That's where my beautiful pair of Cardinals, pair of Blue Jays and all my playful squirrels live now that our tree is gone. I'd like to replant my patio with flea free pots of flowers to try to make up in some tiny way for what we have lost. We are not allowed to feed any birds or animals, even with food that is animal and bird nutritious, so there is no way to attack anything at all without at least some flowers. The one exception to the no feeding rule is that we are allowed to have Hummingbird feeders, but when the Hummers see no flowers, they don't seem inclined to check for feeders. (The "we") referred to throughout is myself and my 15-year-old Norwegian Forest/DLH mix. I adopted her when she was 9 with a past record of being abused. She is doing very well now, but she clearly misses having any birds and animals to watch. So do I.
@Floppycats
@Floppycats 11 месяцев назад
No, there's not a big difference between #3 and #4, Dr. Judy says 1/4 of a clove of garlic, and the pills aren't even really big enough for that. This is for a cat, not a squirrel. I have no idea about squirrels. The biggest thing is cutting it up into small pieces, waiting 10-15 minutes before putting it in the capsule and feeding it or freezing it - so the juices of the garlic do their thing. Baking soda and salt, cut up and dry up fleas, so indirectly kill them. Fleas like a humid environment... I would try nematodes if you're outside - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T3cpKE6D2kc.htmlsi=zRJ8kifTbNk3WTrA I am really sorry about the tree that was cut down - it's always sad when that happens - and sounds like you lost your privacy too!

Use diatomaceous earth outside around plants and in flower pots. It is safe for animals except for insects. It breaks down an insect's exoskeleton and they dehydrate which kills them. They don't even like to walk on the dust. I wouldn't use it on an animal itself due to it dries out skin, fur, and feathers but on the ground or in flower pots is ok. You will need to reapply it when it rains or you water your plants. It will kill beneficial insects such as bees so be careful to use it only on the ground and try to keep as much as possible off the leaves of the plants.

How long do you leave the baking soda and salt on your carpets, hardwood floors and furniture, before vacuuming it up? Just bought a big bag of DE but I think I want to try baking soda and salt first like you recommended.
@Floppycats
@Floppycats 3 месяца назад
I love DE for under my furniture, so I can stop moving it and vacuuming everything. But I prefer baking soda and salt, where I have to vacuum, so I can get a break. DE will do a number on your vacuum too. I usually leave it down a few days to get a good break, vacuum it up and repeat the process depending on the needs. The vacuuming will help hatch the eggs, so you end up killing more. I am working on a PDF for flea infestations. I would be happy to send you a copy if you email me - info@floppycats.com

Love this advice. The vet office during covid was difficult to go to. I had to drop my cat off and wait in the car. I had another woman tell me her cat got fleas from the vet office before her cat was treated. I was surprised this happened until it happened to me. My cats have never had fleas. Flea free for twenty years plus. Until I went to that office during covid. It took a few months to have a house infestation and it scared me. I didn't know what to do. I immediately treated the cats but then the rug had to be vacuumed frequently. I tried diatomaceous earth on the floors and after vacuuming I noticed in the canister the fleas looked pretty pissed off but not dead. I tried flea powder and the vet didn't recommend that. It took months to get rid of the fleas. But they came back as soon as I quit the tube treatment on my cats. I don't like putting poison on my cats. My senior cats got sick. I lost two to illness. The mixture is 50/50 (equal parts) salt and baking powder. You would also have to treat the animals themselves with flea treatments as if you fail to do so, they will simply leave and infest the carpets all over. Garlic is toxic for animals if you over dose your animals. 1 gram of garlic is all you need for your pets (cats or dogs). If you can get garlic drops 2 drops per day for 5 days on 2 days off, do not exceed 3 weeks of use with a 30 day rest period between ea 3 weeks. OMG Jenny, are Ragdolls more susceptible to fleas or something? Because my old Balinese is a porch cat. We have a huge outside screen room like 4 foot off the house and he LOVES chilling in there. We NEVER had problems with fleas even though he was outside for two summers before this summer and we only ever had to use over the counter flea topicals that would take care of the problem in a few weeks. But NOW, its like fleas had some super breeding season because we got hit hard. The weird thing is, my Ragdolls don’t go outside, only my Balinese does. And my Balinese barely has any fleas on him. But BOTH my ragdoll cats were infested in like a week. I been treating my yard, all the rooms that have carpet in my home, as well as all the cat condos and it barely seemed to make a dent in them after a month. I finally broke down and went to the vet so i could get some extra strength flea topical. But its like 25 bucks a pop and I have four cats so that is like an extra 150 bucks a month. I even used DE like you showed us months ago and the little buggers still seem to be knocking around on their coats. So my question is, how well does that baking soda/salt mixture work? Can you use it on your cats like you did the DE?
@Floppycats
@Floppycats 11 месяцев назад
ha ha ha - no, they're not more susceptible. but weaker immune systems and the less "clean" the diet can be issues. trigg doesn't get fleas unless we have an infestation. charlie gets just one. no, you cannot and should not use baking soda and salt on your cats. that's for your carpets. 95% of the flea population is in your environment - only 5% is on the pet. here's my protocol - DE on both cats, then salt and baking soda on the carpets after thoroughly vacuuming. also have to vacuum every day for like 2 weeks. it's miserable. and you need to vacuum your upholstery furniture. you can get something like Wondercide (amzn.to/3KKQpKA ) and spray down your furniture. just let it dry before cats come in contact with it. then put towels everywhere the cats' lay and wash those EVERY DAY until you no longer see flea dirt or fleas. it's soooo miserable. what have you been doing to "treat" your rooms with carpet? fleas hide in floorboards and under moldings, etc. so vacuum everywhere.

NoFleazPleaz ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mWjvz9GLekg.html 3. KittyBoost by AnimalEO floppycats.co/kittyboost Right now for yard: 1. Nematodes - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T3cpKE6D2kc.html 2. Tick Killz - geni.us/tickkillz [Amazon] #affiliate And I vacuum 3-4x a week and wash all the towels inside that the cats lay on.

Thanks for the helpful tips but as far as the Diatomaceous earth, is not good for us or pets to breathe in...it has tiny glass fiber like material that cuts through pest shells but can get in and cut lung tissue as well.

Yes that's why it has to be food grade. But with baking soda and salt, you don't need DE. If you have carpet, make sure you get the corners and the sides! And check out this interview with Dr. Judy Morgan - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oVngxIkg5Os.html

That’s good. I’m not sure I could do that given my cats’ allergies. And trying to detox them. What was in the detergent? I know steam alone will kill them.

@@Floppycats I have a dog, a pom, and just washing up liquid. I expect the heat may have done any that may have been in the carpet, plus being sucked up and drowned in the water. I am going to add baking soda, next time as that will not hurt. My pom had a few that were increasing, and as a temporary measure hit the buggers with double sided tape, which took them off and instantly killed them. I have now purchased a flee collar, and see how that works for her.

Hi my name is Nicholas but I go by Nick I have a cat her name is star and I have to give her asthma twice a day she's a beautiful cat. She got fleas from another cat that my mom's boyfriend took in because of my grandma passing away and we had to take the cat in an adopter her. All the cast that we have inside the house is my cat Star my grandma's my mom's cat TJ. My brother he has two more cats up there one of them his name is Hunter and the other one is mischief but those two cats are separated but they have fleeced you because please can hop on to humans. Yesterday sometime I look up natural ways to kill fleas and then I saw that baking soda and until the flea eggs on the carpets and baby fleas I'm not for sure if don't fleas can get killed too but I sprinkled the stuff on my carpet everywhere in the house now I'm just waiting for the timing to see if my cat will scratch less. But my cat Star she is the worst of all the cat she is allergic to the flea bites and she has redness around her neck so I put Vaseline for the sores to ease her itching and pain. My mom she got some flea medication we have to put on the cats monthly. But so far my cat Star is still irritated and she walks around a lot seems like she can't get a break if I pick her up she will meow but she loves when I pick her up cuz she stops meowing and she wants to be comforted by someone but if I put her down and if I try to pet her or use the flea comb that I bought she gets irritated and mad. The flea comb that I have is where you comb their hair and it shocks the fleas. I wish I can send a picture to you of what my cat looks like she is a beautiful cat. Thank you for making this video...✍️✝️❤️

Hi Nick, Sorry to hear about your flea woes - check out this page - www.floppycats.com/flea-control.html - if she is a short-haired cat, I would put coconut oil all over her. It suffocates the fleas and they hate the lauric acid in it, should help her neck too. Maybe don't put it on her the same day if you're giving her chemical flea treatments though.

@@Floppycats Thank you very much I totally forgot about coconut oil that you can use for your cats for fleas especially the sores that they have when they are allergic to the flea bites. I usually buy organic coconut oil because it's all natural and I won't have any chemicals or pesticides. I wanted to say that you have two beautiful cats. My cat Star she loves it outside she's an indoor and outdoor but when I do take her outside I use a leash to put on her because I don't want her running away especially when she sees squirrels . I will check out the video/link that you gave to me I really appreciate it thank you. Sincerely Nick..✍️✝️❤️
