If you want to knit a scarf this season, nothing beats this pattern! This scarf is absolutely perfect. It's incredibly stretchy, reversible and it doesn't CURL! In this project tutorial I use a self-striping yarn to make it more visually interesting without the hassle of adding new yarn, and weaving in tons of ends. So that's a win!

My second knitted gift was a brioche scarf I made for my dad. Grey heather yarn to coordinate with a navy blue parka he wore for the walk to and from his work. Dad loved it and that made me so incredibly happy.

Hi. I just found this video. Your instructions are very clear, but I have one question. On the rows where you do the BRK, it looks as though you are keeping the yarn in front after slipping the stitch purlwise. If I am correct, every time you do the BRK, you are knitting with the yarn forward, correct? Thanks. This is an easier brioche method than the ones where you let the yarn lie in front and pick it up, but I want to make sure I am doing the BRK with the yarn forward. Thank you!

Hi, I’m almost done with a scarf I’m making for my son in law for Christmas lol (late I know) using the same yarn and your pattern also in Morning Java color, do I need to block it since I don’t have the blocks and my apartment is small. I remember my sister had a sewing machine back in Lebanon but I was small, I think she used to wet a towel and lightly ironed them, I didn’t know why though, do you think I can do the same? Also there are some fuzzies do you think I can shave them off with a sweater shaver? Thank you 🙏

Hihi, would you pls help to advise how many to cast on for cotton yard using 4.5mm needles? Is it also suitable with thin yarns? Thank you 🙏

This was my first knit project, and it turned out great! Only change I made was adding a selvedge edge (from the NimbleNeedles brioche tutorial), because the "knit 1" at the edge of every row looks kinda jenky. Thank you so much for making this video tutorial. My husband loves the scarf. 😊

Hi! I really love this design. I am a beginner knitter and wanted to make this scarf but I find that I keep having to restart because I occasionally drop a stitch and then I am uncertain how to reloop it onto the needles (if that makes sense). Do you have a video how to do this for this stitch, or any advice please? I'd love to be able to recover a stitch and keep going with the make! Thanks!

Wait, you knit the first stich in row 1 and 2, and then on row 3 you slipped it without mentioning it in the video or in the pattern. So, Slip or no slip?

Casting on 39 stitches is a little too wide. How many stitches would you recommend decreasing this to without messing up the pattern? Any odd number of stitches?
@bhookedknitting
@bhookedknitting Год назад
Yep, you’re right! Just make sure it’s an odd number, and you’ll be good 👍

I am really enjoying knitting a brioche scarf using your video and pattern, I started knitting again only in the last week or 2 after 25 years and am loving it. I’d like to switch yarn to make a stripe in the brioche. Is there any special way to do this in brioche ie single colour brioche exactly as this tutorial but after 50cm I want to switch to new block of colour, It’s not giving quite a straight line on the colour change? I’ve also looked at your 2 colour brioche and noticed that the technique is slightly different to this pattern. Should I have done that technique really if I’m doing blocks of colour ? Very many Thanks
@bhookedknitting
@bhookedknitting Год назад
Hey Karin! The bumpy color line you’re seeing is completely normal for this stitch, so you’re not doing anything wrong 👍 Unfortunately, some stitches have this kind of look when you change colors. Two color brioche would certainly be a neat way to use a second color in your project, but it won’t be color blocks like you’re looking for. This stitch shows both colors…one color “on top” and the other color “in the background”. It’s a really interesting option!

Beautiful scarf. Do you need to block it each time you wash it?
@bhookedknitting
@bhookedknitting Год назад
Glad you like it! Typically, washing will reverse the effects of blocking and you'll have to block it again. Some yarns are more forgiving than others though.

Would it be okay to use a heavy/chunky yarn instead? Like a 6 instead of 4?
@bhookedknitting
@bhookedknitting Год назад
This is a great question, and it has a round about answer :) If you substitute a chunky weight yarn, and don't make adjustments to the needle size and cast on number, you'd end up with a much larger scarf that doesn't drape well. So I definitely wouldn't use a thicker yarn and follow the pattern. However, with some adjustments you can make it work if you prefer to use a chunkier yarn. Use the needle size on the yarn label as a good starting point, and cast on fewer stitches (an odd number of them). You may have to play around with it to get it as wide as you'd like, but this would all be a great lesson in gauge!

SUGGESTIONS: 1. Cast on using a Provisional Cast-on. That way, you can Cast Off both ends exactly the same way. 2. Join your yarn using a Russian Join. Consider adding stitches to the beginning and end of the row and working a di-stitch edge.

Blocking is a good idea except if you live in a one bedroom apartment with very little space.
@bhookedknitting
@bhookedknitting Год назад
I can see that! You can get the same outcome by folding the scarf in half when you block, and it’ll require half the space!

@@bhookedknitting It's finding a spot to put the blocking mats after the project is pinned to be out of the way that is the hardest part.
