This is really wonderful. I admire you're finding ways to elevate these circular knitting machines. There are a lot of hand manipulated stitches that bed knitting machine knitters use like this that translate very well to these machines. Ribbing, fisherman's rib, cables, tuck stich and knit purl combinations. A knook is a great tool for this but you might also find that double ended Latch hooks used for machine knitting and double ended crochet hooks used for tinisian crochet are also EXCELLENT tools to do this type of work and can be bought fairly cheaply.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have latch tools but there is a learning curve to using them. Haven’t tried a double ended crochet hook though, I will definitely look into that 😉

Lovely tutorial. Question: Does this shorten the width of the end product? If so, how is this dealt with to ensure the width of the end product is the correct size? Thank you :)
@emilysmith2784
@emilysmith2784 2 года назад
I didn’t measure it before and after but i didn’t notice a difference in size so I would say no it doesn’t change the width, and if it does the difference is negligible

If I am knitting tubes that I then join for my project I would be able to do this before closing a tube wouldn’t I? Also wondering if I could create ribbing for sleeves as an afterthought using your method for making purl stitches … how do you do it if your not pulling the whole row/column out eg like 6 stitches at the bottom if I was trying to create afterthought ribbing for cuffs and didn’t want to rib any further up? Wait… I would just need a stitch holder and pull it through when I got back up to the stitches I didn’t want to pull out?
@emilysmith2784
@emilysmith2784 2 года назад
Yes you can do this on tubes. For ribbing I would add a lifeline to where you want the ribbing to start and drop the columns down to that line then from the back of the project work your way back up to the edge. I am pretty sure I’ve done this in a tutorial before. I’ll have a look through my content and let you know if I find it.

Hey, I'm curious if you've ever tried using that cardboard tool thing you made and used in the video about machine knitting a greater number of stitches than the machine has, so you can skip the step of undoing the wider set of stitches that get cabled? You might not be able to do the perl stitches, or at least not the same way, but it seems like a potential shortcut.
@emilysmith2784
@emilysmith2784 Год назад
I have. Check out my cabled pillow or large beanie videos. I used the extender then cabled the extra stitches. It’s honestly my favourite thing to do ❤️. I get to make large projects but still get the joy of knitting cables by hand.

@@emilysmith2784 I'm adhd and unmedicated today so I ended up switching videos very shortly into that beanie video and missed how you dealt with the excess. I feel so silly but also good. Silly to suggest something you would obviously think of yourself but good that I thought of it before seeing you do it. I can't wait to utilize that technique, but I think I'll wait till tomorrow and after I take my meds.

Can this be used when making a beanie in the round?
@emilysmith2784
@emilysmith2784 2 года назад
Yes. But if you are using decreases at the crown you may want to add your lifeline at that point, unless you can figure a way to incorporate the decreases into the cable design.
