Here I give a quick and dirty run down for how to knit your own Wednesday sweater vest! This tutorial uses basic knitting techniques like knit, purl, k2tog, ssk, mattress stitch, and picking up stitches.
Let me know if you made your own!

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I wonder if it would be a good idea to block all the columns before putting them together. I don't think you did this though. Did the curling of the columns form a problem for the assembly? Or did you maybe block your work after putting everything together? 😊
@laurarachellee
@laurarachellee 10 месяцев назад
I did not block them before seaming them together, but that definitely would have helped! It was a little annoying to work with. Blocking seems to always be the answer lol

Just a Quick question- is there meant to be 34 rows in every square? Or different counts of rows in each square? I’m new to knitting patterns 😅
@laurarachellee
@laurarachellee 11 месяцев назад
Yes! The row count should be the same in every square. It will be the stitch count that changes as you make decreases at the top of the vest. And you might not have exactly 34 rows - it will be however many you need to get the size square you want (in my case, it was 5”x5” squares to get an overall checkered portion that is 20”x20” on the front and on the back). If you make the vest exactly how I did (i.e. Not colorwork/ intarsia) then I recommend knitting one extra row on the very bottom squares ONLY because you will lose one row when picking up stitches for the bottom ribbing (this is already in the pattern) I’m happy to answer any more questions you have as you knit, so please don’t hesitate to ask! 😊

I really need to learn how to use circular knitting needles
@laurarachellee
@laurarachellee Год назад
It’s super similar to straight needles! Some people prefer it because there is no purling when you are working in the round.
@jonathansfavorites
@jonathansfavorites Год назад
My smallest needles were 3.5 and were still almost 1/4 inch bigger than your gauge and is making a very stiff fabric with worsted acrylic. I'm going to size up my needles and adjust my stitch counts down. Hopefully, I can make it work. I'm pretty much exactly your size, so I was hoping it would be straightforward, but I can not achieve gauge with this stitch count and my hobby lobby yarn. It must be bigger than yours.
@laurarachellee
@laurarachellee Год назад
I definitely agree that going up in needle size and down in stitches is the way to go. The one I made is fairly stiff, and I think a loose gauge would actually look more like her sweater. I would love to know the gauge you settled on and the yarn you are using!

Hi, how are you? I love your pattern, it corresponds very well to the original. I have a question and maybe you can help me. I am a few sizes bigger, I used 5mm needles and my squares ended up with 27 stitches and 35 rows (actually there are about 36 rows due to the change in color of the square that follows above). The reduction would be the same as in the video for the sides and v-neck. If not, can you please help me, I would be very grateful. I am new to knitting. I thank you in advance for reading my comment.
@laurarachellee
@laurarachellee Год назад
Hi! You are correct: the reduction process would be the same, but your final stitch counts could end up a little different depending on how you would like yours to look. For the arm hole reductions, I would follow the pattern and end with 19 stitches (so you would reduce one less time than I did). For the v-neck, I would follow the same pattern of reducing on every other knit row, but you have the option to stop once you get to 12 stitches or to keep reducing until you reach your 35/36 rows. This might only result in one or two extra decreases if you keep going, but just keep in mind that the number of stitches you finish with on the back middle columns need to match the number of stitches you finish with on the v-neck front columns. I hope this helps! Let me know how it turns out :)

For my size, I used 2 balls of the white and 3 of the black. I wasn’t able to find this yarn/yardage on their website, so it never hurts to get a little extra if you are unsure!

Hi, this looks lovely and I love the fit. What knitting needle size did you use?
@laurarachellee
@laurarachellee Год назад
Hi! I used 5mm needles for the checkered portion and 4mm needles for all of the ribbing. I used a worsted weight yarn, and 5mm was the needle size it recommended.

How can we get our sizes? I mean I didn't watch it full but does it say in the video?
@laurarachellee
@laurarachellee Год назад
Hi! Decide what you want the overall length of the checkered portion to be (keep in mind that the width will be the same measurement), and then divide that length by 4. This number will be the size of one square. For example, I chose a checkered portion length of 20 inches, and this gave me 5 x 5 inch squares. Then the rest of the sweater vest is essentially putting squares together and reducing for the neck and arm holes!
