Welcome back, Señor Jordan! You’re one of my all time favorite Spanish teachers over the years. I’m now fluent, but I STILL use your videos to improve my grammar. Thanks!
I ate this up! I have had trouble for decades with the el and la. Great job! My head is spinning!! Make it spin even more by addressing: al and del! Thank you!
This was so in depth thank you haha Taking Spanish 1 for high school right now and I was pretty confused about this. I still am, but I have some direction now haha
This is just flat out confusing I thought I understood until I watched this video. We watched this in class and everyone was just laughing it is honestly comedical. I can see you tried your very hardest and I’m not sure if it’s possible to explain this without destroying everyone’s brains so good work
Thanks for your comment! It’s not meant to be memorized. It’s just meant for informational purposes. And if you get “el” or “la” wrong when speaking to someone it’s not the end of the world like Spanish teachers might make it out to be. :-)
De repente me he dado cuenta de que there's actually an exception to the "el agua, el águila, el alma, el hacha, el hada etc." rule, which is hache - the name of the letter H. Échenle un vistazo a este ejemplo: La hache es muda en español, salvo algunas excepciones. - With a few exceptions, the letter h in Spanish is silent.
Liked the video, my conclusion is there's no method that can be used, but if you're learning the language from scratch you've most likely got to learn the translation for every noun so instead of just learning noun for noun learn the Spanish noun combined with its article
Agreed! This video wasn't ever meant for people to be able to memorize. It was more of a survey of the language at the college level of analysis! The more you expose yourself to the words in context, your brain will pick up the el/la, etc without fail. Our brains are actually wired to acquire languages. :-)
My pleasure! It's actually just a re-upload fixing some things people disapproved of. But I hope it's helpful. And I have plenty of new content coming this year, primero Dios (Lord willing)! :-)
This is just one of those things I am presenting to learners. If you misgender a word in Spanish, people will still understand you. So I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Your brain will slowly sort these out the more you come across them.
Summary- For the noun to be feminine, . Ends with either A, D, Z. . -ie, -nte, umbre. To be masculine- . Ends with O, L, N, R, S. . -ambre . If it ends with a vowel with an accent on it
I’m gonna assume if you really wanna know the gender of an out you’re either gonna have to use Spanish dictionary or just naturally know it from hearing natives use it in context
Correct. This was never meant to be a video where people have to memorize everything. It's something that one's brain will sort out over time through lots and lots of exposure to the language in a comprehensible manner.
@@s_e_t_z3248 That's not to say a teacher won't want students to memorize this. But for actual acquisition, it will come via exposure in varied, comprehensible contexts! Hang in there!
if it were 'la hambre' it would sound like "lambre" similar to el agua (instead of "lagua") el alma (instead of "lalma") it's because the word stress is on the first syllable (2nd to last syllable). Hope that helps!
Do we have to memorize all these words??😢 it is like ARABIC. Which is my 2nd language ( my native is Turkish) I am 67 years old and speaking Arabic for 60 years BUT STILL DONT KNOW SOME NOUNS GENDER 😢😢😢 ITS OK THEY UNDERSTAND ME 😂
No, not at all. If you use the wrong article, people will normally understand you anyway (unless the person you are speaking to is a Spanish teacher that makes you think any error is a terrible sin). 😃
WHYYYYYYYYYYY? So in thousands of years, y’all haven’t decided to just have one word to represent the”. Omg. It seems unnecessarily complicated. 😂. I SUCK AT THIS.
Hahaha, as a native speaker I can say, we NEVER have any issues finding the correct article not matter how fast we are speaking, so, not neccesary changes😂
