Thankyou for such a simple, clear explanation. I've got clicking, a limited range of movement from time to time, and neck pain, which I had no idea could be connected.
Thank you so much I love you video yes I have TMJ thanks for being simple and straight into explained what TMJ is I used to watch a lot of other people videos that are very complicated you were very straightforward and simple I appreciate that I will subscribe because of that to your Channel
How to know if you have a temporomandibular joint? Find out by answering two easy questions: (1) do you have a lower jaw? (2) is it attached to your skull? If the answer is "Yes!" to both - congratulations, you are a proud owner of a TMJ!
Very helpful I had a brief few days of limited jaw movement but now I just get pain in the temple, in front of ear and lower jaw where lower wisdom teeth are.
Hey doc I have sever tmj on my left side jaw it’s automatically comes out of the socket on it’s on and when I open my mouth eveything shifts to the right , I’m in severe pain everyday I brought a dental guard from cvs , but it kinda doesn’t fit my mouth, what should I do ? I see changes happening in my face as well
If you don't mind me asking you what if someone has pain right at the joint area itself then what does that indicate because I have been having TMD problem since 8 years now and I have even undergone an arthroplasty surgery for left side of my jaw joint but it did helped me with the problem and made it worst.
My TMJ is a bit different... it started like this year. Whenever my mouth is resting and i clench down on purpose, it makes a click noise... sounds internal. Sometimes i can't open my mouth fully bc my right one is limiting it. And sometimes it randomly starts hurting on the right side... what do i do ?
Hello sir I need your help please do reply, I FEEL CLICK WHILE CLOSING MY JAW WHEN I PUT MY PINKY (LITTLE FINGER) INSIDE THE LEFT EAR AND APPLY A SLIGHT PRESSURE OVER THE PLACE WHERE THE CONDYLE RESTS.IT ONLY HAPPENS WHILE CLOSING THE JAW NOT WHILE OPENING AND HAPPENS ONLY IN MY LEFT JAW.I CAN FEEL SOME THING IS MOVING WHILE PALPATING.
Thank you Doctor. I’m a cancer patient Myeloma. I also have degenerative disc disease. I was recently told that I had TMJ but didn’t believe it. My mouth does not click I just have extreme pain in front of my jaw under my jaw and behind my neck where you showed with your hand in your video. I want to ask if it causes swelling inside the mouth? I thought I had lesions in my mouth but biopsy says no. I had severe salava stones very painful by the way. When that past the pain in my right jaw, there is also a very swollen muscle tissue remaining in the corner. Where the two joints meet. It’s painful into my temples and jaw. Exactly as u have describe. Everything you mentioned, even the neck is me. But I also have this swelling in my mouth on the floor of my mouth. What doctor should I see to help me treat this?
If i chew a hard thing or some hard gummy candy to be precise, it does click. And also i do get frequent headaches especially on my left side and i can't really figure out where that pain is from (mostly it originates from my head and spreads all over i assume). Even sleeping in certain positions gives a kick to the pain.
Ok so I originally had the clicks and popping going on for a while for a week and then i just couldn’t open it as far as I could, and it hurts as well. My parents found out I grind my teeth at night too, so do I have this?
I do have a question because i dont know how this happened or what could cause it for me but for me, my jaw is tilted to the left. So could it make it worse if i sleep on the right side of my body causeing my jaw to move and stay on the left when im sleeping?
Thank you for the information bc I thought it was caused by my wisdom tooth but nope it's tmj, so how do I speed up the healing process to get my jaw good again I can barley eat anything bc the length I can open my jaw it's a pain
My 15-year-old and I both have TMJ. Hers pops when she opens her mouth, and sometimes gets stuck. Mine swings to the side and I have chronic headaches in the back of my neck and temples, which my ENT doctor said could be from TMJ.
i have clicking and sometimes locking but no pain, a couple of months ago my jaw used to lock a lot more often and click more frequently but now it doesnt do it as much, what do i do??
My jaw goes to one side and its locked *1 side* , no pain but I can only fit my pointer and middle finger into my mouth not till the nuckle though. When it started I would push inwards and boom back to normal and then when I would wake up it happened again. The lock started to get longer and longer until now I can only open till 2 fingers
I have all those symptoms and is it a serious?? Do I have to fixed my teeth for these because my half of molars are missing it’s been 3 years? My ears inside it’s making noise( never thought it’ll go this far)
You will be fine. If it’s nothing severe and the TMJ is manageable, it will go away on its own, even without any treatment. Just keep your mind at ease
That means your jaw is getting ready to lock up so restrain your jaw or simply stop using your mouth for a little while and only make small movements until jaw heals and relaxes again
Heck yeah all three! Left side. I was supposed to have my jaw broken and restructured to fix my bad overbite at 9 years old. Fast forward 21 years, I should’ve gotten it done. 😂
I have asymmetrical face, Tinnitus, blurry right eye side, popping left jaw, it is TMJD I'm sure. But will the other symptoms, like tinnitus, goes away if I get to fix my TMJD? Thank you for those can answer.
My jaw has been clicking since I was a child, now as an adult the whole jaw is tilted to the left and I frequently have pains in jaw muscles. Is it possible I had TMJ since I was a kid which lead to fucked up symmetry?
I also have this issue currently and it started years before to the point where i cant even tell when it started because of how subtle it was. I can say for sure but seeing as i have the same problem as well it could be a good possibility
I have the same problem, but i dont know what to do. I visit my dentist and she said that i need to do one excersise( closing and opening mouth with tounge set back ) But that is not helping so much. And when I am speaking for a while, it hurts
@@Amina-ud7ri Pretty sure you need to see an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, you probably need to go through your family doctor first unless you contant a private clinic
@@BlackBirds93 I will have to if the condition doesn't improve, I thought it was a normal thing for my jaw to click, but it doesn't seem to be anymore because I can't hear the sound. has your condition improved? what they told you? And thanks for the ansewer 🥰
@@Amina-ud7ri Obviously my jaw is crooked but I do nothing about it, however I have zero pain since I stopped doing ANYTHING at all TMJ exercise related, rest is the only thing that works
@@ismailefe9559 I went to maxillofacial surgeon and they told me just to rest, not to eat food like peanuts, chips..just some soft food (To rest muscles). I don't feel that it's back to normal, I'm a little used to it. And also to do some excersise, and pretty much thats it..
Been in pain for a year now and everyone keeps saying there is nothing wrong haha...seen the denist like 4 times a specialist twice... countless doctor's... i really need help lol...
Can 'TMJ' cause tinnitus or inner ear, Eustachian tube dysfunction? I sing frequently and over time I've noticed that one ear feels mildly full like being on an airplane but will never feel like it has any release of the imbalanced pressure. I notice my jaw clicks as it pivots, and is a bit asymmetrical in discreet ways like when I shift an open mouth side to side. I can freely move my lower jaw side to side too just with my muscles. I'm guessing all this is from over exertion and poor technique for a portion of it.
I have tinnitus on the same side as the clicking and my teeth are misaligned causing my bite to be off…I knew I had TMJ I start with Invisalign’s next month hoping to correct this. I’ve heard of successful stories
@@magnuskarlsson8655 Still. I've even since started physical therapy where they are dry needling muscles in my jaw. It has lead to muscles around my neck needing treatment as well. Yeah, it definitely sounds like one of what you mentioned. I don't know if 1) you mentioned applies to me, but definitely 2) likely does.
@@Chris-cf2kp A study found that as much as 43-96 percent of TMD patients experience ear fullness, and ear fullness is also the most common ear symptom, followed by ear pain (otalgia). Here is a great article on the subject of ear symptoms from TMD (the two theories I mentioned for ear fullness is explained in the Introduction): www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8638311/ I also recommend - if you haven't already - to check out this youtube channel: ru-vid.comvideos She has many videos with great advice both for diagnostics and treatments. This video might be especially helpful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vng3tmFJPDY.html
@@magnuskarlsson8655 Very insightful thank you. I'll add that also I experience one side of my jaw moving more than the other, like some mentioned previously, where my chin will shift to one side as I open my mouth. Some of the exercises I see in her videos are some that I've also started in physical therapy, working muscles all around my head and the nerves on the back of my neck, which can relate to tinnitus. I noticed that as I've worked out my muscles, on some occasions during a stretch my tinnitus will stop for a moment or my ears will open more. So my symptoms are most certainly related to muscle or nerve strain or spasm. But I'm starting to see a slight improvement as I keep working these muscles out and undergo dry needling in specific points. Hopefully that can give some hope to others. The channel you linked seems promising. I'd say to others to look into physical therapy with dry needling for TMJ also. I had to see a TMJ spec first. Some of them can hurt a bit at first, but afterwards they actually do result in gradual improvement from releasing residual muscle and jaw tension.
That was helpful, thanks. I don't think I have TMJ. Besides the two that I do have, ha. I think I have a clenching problem that's carrying into the day problem.
When i chew i hear my ear click when i put my finger behind my ear i feel the click is that tmj?????? ( I don't have pain and i don't have my jaw lock)
Hi Dr. I really find your videos very informative and easy to follow particularly for exercises. Unfortunately I have tmj clicking which I think quite severe (bc clicking is quite loud). It happens two years ago, and I went to the doctor but wasn't able to have follow up check up bc it get back to normal (there's no clicking anymore). But unfortunately last year, I just observed, clicking came back again and sometimes painful, i cant open my mouth that wide compared before. Do braces will lessen the clicking bc it will correct the bites then may jaw (bc i read some studies it might help also) or I need to undergo series of muscle therapy for the jaw? Thank you so much. Anyways, I'm trying the part one exercise for 5 days already.
Braces can help to improve the relationship of the bite to the joint mechanics, but only if the orthodontist pays close attention to both. Usually it's best to us a removable appliance to help stabilize the joint structures FIRST, and then proceed with orthodontics to bring the bite into harmony with the joint mechanics.
I've always thought everyone's jaw was like this. My jaw has always "clicked" when opening really wide, just as you described, for as long as I can remember. But I've never had pain from it or have known this was not normal ! Is it bad if it's untreated even though it doesn't bother me ? I've had braces as a teenager and have never had a dentist/orthodontist mention anything to me. 🤷♀️😬
update: after 2 to 3 weeks, my jaw doesn't drop any more. It's back to normal. I think I was chewing too much gum at one point and over did it. Now max only 30 minutes a day
I have pain in all of those places, I've never complained to my dentist about my jaw clicking. I'm only 12 so my dentist made me go get a x-ray, he discovered that I ahve a wisdom tooth growing sideways almost through my jaw, he also said that that should the pain. I wondering becssue I ahve all the symptoms, do I still have tmj?
Dear dr. I am hypertension pateint, last summer i suffered from sinusitis. ENT specialist suggested me to take steam. I take steam but after some time i felt pressure on my right side of mouth, difficulty in opening mouth. Now after Six months i can Open my mouth upto four fingers wide. But when i swallow food or sliava i feel tick sound in my right ear. Sometimes Ear's clogged, sometimes drum like sounds from right ear. Tinnitus in the night. Is this jaw muscles tension associated with Eustachian tube dysfunction or tmj disorder. Kindly answer me i am waiting for your reply.
Had a clicking sound on my jaw for weeks and i thought it was like those popping sound my other joints do so i ignored it And now, i instantly regret it cause i can't open my jaw wide because my left joint is limiting it
@@kiranjadhav1606 still have the same clicking I’ve seen a gp about it but they’ve said it’s just 'stress' as there’s no general pain, so I’m going to leave it for now but if it carry’s on I’ll go back and see what they can do :)
