Thanks skip I have been flying the baron too and the gps works great , I did all you say on the Cessna but I think maybe the stal warning might turn of the gps but I do all the auto and nav or loc . Just need practice with throttle control when I am decending on the glide slope . Does the gps ils decend the plane or only align
@WEHVideos
@WEHVideos 8 лет назад
Hi Scott, When landing using the ILS system you use the NAV radio not the GPS. ILS aligns you down the center of the runway and it's GS will bring you down to a decision point where you take over the landing so it does take you down to the runway. The stall warning is just a warning signal created by an opening in the wing that "whistles" so to speak when the angle of attack it too great, it's doesn't do anything else, completely driven by air. skip

Hi wildgoobsid5, I don't have much experience with the G1000 so I would have to learn how to use it first and I'm in the middle of a beginners series right now. Do you need to hit the nav button in the plane also besides just the GPS
@WEHVideos
@WEHVideos 4 года назад
Hi rackum44, That depends on your airplane and the nav system you have. So if you have NAV1, NAV2 and GPS options you need to select GPS and make sure the Nav system is turned on and if there is ON, OFF, AUTO the AUTO must be selected for the GPS to work. You also must make sure the Glide Slope is active by selecting APP in the case of the Baron58 but it may be different depending on the airplane you are flying. Hope this helps. Blessings, skip

Can anyone tell me what does that number 413 in the garmin flightplan means ?
@WEHVideos
@WEHVideos Год назад
Hi Jaap Aap, Sorry I took so long to reply been doing a lot of searching on this with no definitive answer. My best guess is that its an altitude to reach before starting your missed approach procedure, notice the number comes after the runway RW28R in the flight plan. If you look at an approach plate for SFO RWY 28R, in the upper right is a missed approach procedure. The current approach plate, of 11-10-22, says climb to 4000ft then climbing left turn going to VIKYU. the plate I used for this video says climb to 600ft then to VIKYU. With that the 600ft in the approach plate I used is obsolete and the X Plane Garmin probably is outdated also, but sends you to VIKYU. So this number probably is and altitude to reach before turning to a missed approach point fix or holding pattern. Sorry that's all I could come up with that makes sense to me. Let me know if that makes sense to you or if you found an answer yourself. Thanks for watching and your really good question :-) Blessings, skip

Rafik bito Hi Rafik, Yoo need to be sure you turned on the Auto Pilot. In the Baron58 on the center console between the seats, there is a rocker switch on the far right that must be turned on, then you can select the APP or NAV button depending on what you want the AP to do. Look at the display panel above the Attitude Indicator, you should see NAV, GS, and AP lights on. This tells you the AP is on and you are navigating with the NAV radio and have captured the Glide Slope. If there are no lights on the AP is not on. Hope this helps, let me know how you make out. Blessings, skip

@WEHVideos 9 лет назад
Rafik Batroussy Hi Rafik, That's interesting. There is a NAV1 NAV2 GPS switch on the Baron58 in the upper left of the panel. That must be set to GPS and right above the CDI button GPS should be displayed, if it isn't hit the CDI button so GPS is displayed. Let me know if that works. Blessings, skip

Hi Larissa, Thank you :-) Sorry I'm not exactly sure what you mean by OMI indicators. Are you referring to the DTK and TRK readings at the top of the display? If so, TRK is you is the track you are on DTK is your desired track, does this help? Blessings, skip
@larissasousa5052

Good day, Skip. Thank you for writing. Please let me explain to you where these O M I letters are. When you first enter the cockpit, you see the "physical" GPS device. At the very top of the device, there are some buttons like COM1, COM2, DME, etc. But to the left of said buttons, there are three letters in colors: a blue O, an orange M, and a black I over a white background. These letters are above the PILOT knob. These O M I letters send buzzes in certain circumstances, like when approaching a runway sometimes, but I can't deduce what is the meaning of such alarms. Thank you for your help, Skip, and God bless.
@WEHVideos
@WEHVideos 6 лет назад
Hi Larissa, OH silly me, of course! OMI are markers to help pilots on ILS approach know where they are the approach. "O" is the Outer Marker and can be the FAF (Final Approach Fix) "M" is the Middle Marker indicates you have passed the "Missed Approach Point and should going around. "I" is the Inner Marker and indicates the beginning of the runway. So these are visual and audible warning indicators to help pilots when landing when visibility is bad. Blessings, skip

@WEHVideos 8 лет назад
Hi Scott, What Cessna are you flying? There are three things that need to be turned on for the GPS to work. OFF.ON.AUTO must be set to AUTO. Source NAV1 NAV2 GPS set to GPS and NAV or LOC engaged. If you are landing with ILS in AutoPilot you need to turn AP off before touchdown. There is no real trick you must pay attention to Glide Slope and speed or you will have a problem. Watch your speed in the Cessna, you should be around 60kts with flaps just before the runway. Cut the power when you are sure you can make the runway and your speed should drop to 55kts, get ready for your flair by leveling off just above the runway, your speed will drop quickly and you flair just before touchdown. Too much speed in landing will cause troubles so watch your speed, if you are around 60kts when it's time to touch down your too fast and most likely you will "takeoff" some what when you try to flair instead of touching down. Landing is nothing more than a controlled stall. You should hear your stall warning come on just about touch down time. Check the PAPI lights to make sure RED is over WHITE on your approach, this insures you are on a correct glide slope. Let me know how you make out. Blessings, skip

@WEHVideos
@WEHVideos 8 лет назад
Hi David, Glide Slope is the angle you approach to the runway and is around 3 degrees. If you are using ILS and keep the GS indicator centered you are on GS. There are PAPI lights and VASI lights to help you stay on GS also, these are visual aids. The PAPI lights consist of lights lined up side by side. When the two left lights are red and two right lights are white you are on GS. If three lights are red you are a little low, if all four are red you are very low. It works just the opposite with the white being too high. The VASI light system have lights "behind" each other or along the runway. As you approach the runway one set of lights will appear to be above the other. So if you are on GS you should see the red lights over the white lights or the farthest lights red, closer light white. A saying goes "Red over white your alright, red over red your dead, white over white you fly all night." Don't get too hung up on this you want to learn to "see" when you are on GS by how the runway looks as you approach so you don't rely or fixate on these visual or electronic aids. Again these are just references to help, learn to land without these and you will become a better pilot. However these lights help on runways that are slopped as on a hill. The runway will look different in these situations and you can find yourself too high or low depending on the direction of slope ether towards you or away from you. Hope this helps. Blessings, skip
