How do you tell if a boat is just a toy or for real?
Today we took a TIWAL out in a stiff nor'easter and big swells.
It it didn't quite go according to plan.
Luckily I didn't put the sailor off for life and he is going to join the TIWAL fleet in NZ. It did give us a wake up call regarding waves on the beach and he knows now it may be good to practice in flat water before he takes his new TIWAL out from the beach in a good swell.
Today we learned:
⛵️Find a spot on the beach where there is a smaller shore break and launch from there.
⛵️Hold the bow at an angle to the waves
⛵️Stand with your back to the wind (upwind of the boat so the boat doesn't run you over!)
We don't always get it right the first time so play it safe and look for an easy option to get off the beach.
