Ive recently laid a kitchen floor in this type of natural stone/slate. It is time consuming and pays to lie it out dry first, it's my first floor !! As a DIY er but with patience and taking your time you can do it, I would recommend tho getting a electric powered tile cutter as I tried an angle grinder for the cuts, ok if you use one every day but can be difficult if your not used to one. Mine turned out good and keeps the mrs happy. Just the rest of the kitchen to fit now😳 why do we do it 🤣
+Haider A Thanks for watching and for the positive message. I saved my daughter a lot of money by using materials we had over from previous jobs done on my house. The slates were from my kitchen which I thought would come in some day for another job. Glad I saved them.-:)
I guess it's not bad for a diy'r, but not the right way to lay tiles. for one I bet in time the tile will crack where he joined the old brick to the slab. any time there can possibly be movement underneath, you should put a membrane . there is no doubt that brick will try to move or separate from the slab and will transfer and separate tiles. the thinset he used was way to thin , you could clearly see the trowel grooves flatten well before he even set a tile, this creates inconsistency in the mortar being uneven, which creates inconsistencies in the coverage of the mortar on the backs of the tiles which can create cracks down the road. the edging used, should of been shimmed up more in order to cover more of the edge of the slate. looks better then it did though
I was hoping to find out how to lay slates on an outdoor step, as in, how or what to lay them with, what 'glue' do I need? I still don't know what you used to stick them down, it just suddenly appeared looking like wet cement? :( Title should be how to grout slate floor tiles...
wow lol... this is not how you lay slate. that grout was way too wet the trim was a mile out and it should have been sealed on the tops and sides before laying and again after grouting.
Please use a quality mask when your cutting brick with the grinder or you will eventully get cilicosies of the lungs , shorten your life just been mindful of your health mate ,old jimmy 67 West Australia ,oh your doing a good job there
