This guy taught me the basics of Articulate, I followed his instructions and thanks to this video I was able to use Articulate, and after a long time without a job because I didn't know how to use Articulate, I got a job that involves the use of it. Thanks so much, I really recommend this video, I like the way how he explains everything!
I made the mistake of checking out Articulate 360 before watching your video. As I jumped around the website, a wave of imposter syndrome washed over me. This feeling stayed with me most of the afternoon. But after watching this video, I can’t wait to get started¡! 😁Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Super helpful.👍🏾
This is MASSIVELY helpful. I started using Storyline, and I got completely lost trying to do some more advanced things. Thanks to you I have a clear path to learning all of this. Thank you!!!
Great training Thank you! It was fun! Downloading Storyline and Paralles on my MacBook took a while but well worth it! Wish I could take your boot camp!
Hey! It can take a bit to get Parallels set up for sure, but I'm glad you got it started. As for the bootcamp, no worries! Plenty of people make this transition using the free resources and videos :D If it ends up being something you can do in the future (and you think it would help) feel free to apply!
Hey Devlin, thanks for this video. I have started learning the storyline recently and after watching this video got clarity on how to proceed learning.
Just bought articulate for myself. I wasn’t going to get the experience any other way. The elh challenges seem super helpful. I’m self taught on photoshop which a whole beast. I think I’m ready. I will be binging every storyline video
If you can learn Photoshop then you can definitely learn Storyline! And if you're looking for something a bit more structured (and prof dev is in your budget), then we'd love to see you in the Storyline Project Lab: www.devlinpeck.com/storyline-project-lab
Hi Devlin, I am a huge fan of your videos. Could you please create videos on how to estimate for a project? For eg how do we estimate for a Storyline project? It would be really helpful for newbies like me? Or if you could share a document that states how an estimation document should look like and what details should be provided?
Thanks Priyanka! I can think about how to present that, but I generally suggest that people move to fixed pricing as soon as they feel comfortable enough to do so. Estimating hours is difficult because it can depend on the client relationship and your own proficiency / speed with the different ID tasks.
@@DevlinPeckYT Thank you for the prompt reply. What I meant is that if you could give a general overview of the time that an ID may take to develop a course based on the level of elearning ( level 1,2 and 3)
@@priyankadey82 Christy Tucker has an article that links to some of the researchon this topic: www.christytuckerlearning.com/time-estimates-for-e-learning-development/
Hi Devlin! Thanks for a great video. Do you think a one-month free trial is enough to be able to master this tool? And what are other tools similar to SL in terms of functionality? thanks again :)
Hi Mariela, you're welcome! Thanks for watching :D. And it's definitely enough time to learn the tool at a pretty decent level...you can learn enough to do what you'd need to do on most ID jobs. Adobe Captivate is a similar tool, but the user experience isn't as good and there doesn't seem to be as high of a demand for people who know that tool.
Can you possibly make a video about what type of computer we should have? I LOVE Macs but it seems a PC laptop would be better? I am just starting out and am in the Mac camp but would be open to getting a PC if I knew what requirements and which programs I will need to be running at the same time? TYIA
I know there are documents for ID checklist, but I would love an outline of the things I have learned in many of these videos. Do those exist or do I need to create them myself?
Other than the checklist there isn't one comprehensive document. But there are articles on my website that correspond to the majority of videos, if you want to dive deeper! Here's one to get started: www.devlinpeck.com/content/how-to-design-elearning
Hi Devlin, Thanks for this video. I'm trying to figure out how I should put my curriculum online and offer it to students. It's just one curriculum - English as a Foreign Language. Actually my class will be for teachers of English from other countries. It's a curriculum that they, the English teachers, can use with their students.
I greatly appreciate this guidance. I just finished the Linkdin course on SL, and although I have a better understanding, I'm still confused, esp. about Slide Masters and Layouts (I never quite got this in PPT). And yep, I've read the parent-child metaphor, but it's still not registering. Maybe it will all click before my trial runs out. Looking at your checklist, would you say that we should be learning more than one software program at a time (e.g., delve into Adobe Illustrator while learning SL)? All of this is super interesting, but I feel like I'm drowning in content at times.
Thanks for asking, Lynn. And yes, it can definitely feel like a lot in the beginning! But you will not recognize where you were when you look back in a few months :D. Learning Illustrator while learning SL couldn't hurt, but I always learn best when I have a specific project in mind that I'm motivated and excited to create. Then I learn the skills necessary to bring it to life. So it may be good to identify which tools you want to learn, then identify a good ID problem that you can solve with those skills.
I've been using Adobe Captivate for many years and have considered Storyline on many occasions - always stayed with Captivate mind, albeit 'Project Charm' is taking a lot longer than hoped. Do you think the new Captivate release will be on par with Storyline? Thanks for all the excellent videos Devlin!
Thanks John! And I think that the new Captivate release has the potential to take a lot of ground from Storyline (seems like it may be even better). I imagine Storyline probably has something new in the works too with all of the funding that they got, but we will see how the market develops!
I don’t have any hard numbers on this, but from the corporate space and what I see, it seems like 90-95% use Storyline and less than 10% use alternatives. Again, not hard data, just the impression I get!
Thanks for the great video. Wondering do you recommend taking an online course for learning articulate storyline and rise or teaching ourselves? Which would be faster? I do have experience designing on Kajabi and thinkific just for some stuff for myself. I want to master these two software’s before I apply for an instructional design job so wondering if you think that would be more useful? I see that Oregon State University has an online course that is six weeks for instructional designers that teaches articulate and rise. This is in my neighborhood so I was thinking of taking it but it’s a bit pricey. The money is fine I just wanna make sure you think it’s worth it. Also maybe that will give more credibility to add that course to a résumé?
You’re welcome, and good questions! It’s definitely possible to teach yourself, but some people choose to go with paid programs for more structure (and to save time). I have an offering that you can check out on my site (called the Storyline Project Lab), but I’m sure the university program one couldn’t hurt either! And showing that you’re committed to your prof dev will look good, but specific certs won’t make much of a difference (it’s more about showing off what you can do with the tool by creating portfolio projects).
Great Learning path!! 🌟🌈 Made my Day! 🙏 Gonna try this! Best learning resource to start your Storyline journey. Thanks Devlin👍 Most freelance/full-time Storyline developer jobs need you to pass a test. So, can you please make a video on: 👉 How to Pass Storyline Developer Tests, and Win Freelance and Full-Time Jobs.
Hi Daniel! Glad to hear that the learning path is helping :D. I am not familiar with these tests. Do you have to complete them in front of a live interviewer? What kinds of tasks do they ask you to complete?
@@DevlinPeckYT Usually, the interviewer sends some sample content, and asks the developer to create 5 -10 screens of a module. They tell you to make the screens interactive (level - 2 or 3), and also to include a small assessment section in it. Usually, 2-3 hrs are allotted for the test. It's mostly online now, but no, you don't have to perform it before an interviewer.
Also, the interviewer may, or may not send the images, or illustrations. I find 2-3 hrs too less? Would like to know what you think? Also, I'm not too fast with storyline.
@@danielcortez3835 Ah, right. I think they will be looking at creativity, attention to detail, visual design skills, writing / ID skills, etc. Companies do this to put everyone "on the same playing field" so that they can easily evaluate an applicant based on one assignment. Not very fair for the applicants (since they're basically doing free work just for a shot at landing the job), but it is common practice nonetheless.
@@DevlinPeckYT how much 👉HTML, CSS and Javascript training will I need to land my first eLearning development job. I'm from India 🇮🇳 Can I join your slack channel? Is it free?
You sure don’t! Using JavaScript in Storyline is a much more advanced topic that most IDs never even get into. If you like coding, then it’s a good opportunity for specialization 😃
Hello Sir I can view the project progress via the slide numbers feature but I couldn't get it to my LMS. In my opinion, I should execute a javascript for the project progress but I don't know how can I did that can you help me?
Hi Taro! Thanks for reaching out. I have not done something like this before and am not sure about your best path forward. It does sound like it would involve JavaScript and the SCORM Run-Time Environment.
Could you plse tell me how to got opportunities and how to get clients... Basically iam from India thats y iam asking ... I have no job... Just now I saw your video I hope it's help to build my career tq
Hello Devlin.. Could you please let me know how to do book page turn transition animation in Storyline.. page turn animation is available in PowerPoint but unfortunately it is not available in storyline..I want to show book page turn animation on click in storyline..same as in PowerPoint..kindly help me in this interactive na. Thanks
I created a course in the trial version of storyline and now I can’t access it since the it’s more than 6 months old. Any suggestions how to retrieve it?
Hi Shaily. Do you have the .story file? If so, you should be able to access it from any active Storyline license (either a paid license or another trial).
Good question! If you're working for a company, then they will purchase and give you a license. If you're working indepdently (as a freelancer, for example), then you would purchase your own license.
Good question, but no. Rise 360 is a web-based authoring tool that lets you create templated projects, and Storyline 360 is a program you download. This video explains further: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mAEPu2utG98.html
