Soil is the key to critical data with test gardens. Even months after creating one it’s not the same as true undisturbed soil, it takes literally years to replicate. Being an advanced detectorist hunting in fire hot soil I find air testing to be of little to no use and don’t waste my time watching those sorts of demonstrations. Testing at your desired site/sites is most ideal and feel is the only way to get real world data, running different programs, settings, then digging out to target.
So you saying if you bury a coin 3 inches deep in your hot soil it will act totally different than a 3 inch wheat at 3inches dropped 60 years ago? In what way?
I made a test garden 10+ years ago, in my back yard. The ONLY detector I have been able to use there is the D2, Mono, 40kHz. Nothing else works due to EMI. Without the good map I made when I buried things I wouldn't be able to find squat! GPX 5000 - no, CTX - no, ACE 250 - no, Excalibur 2 - no.
