Having your own money is so important. Heather, one thing you didn't mention is if there is a threat of violence. That needs to be handled very differently. You may possibly need to leave when they're out of town, not telling them until after the fact. You may need to have a couple of big strong men with you who will protect you as body guards. In these cases it's good to work with people who are dealing with this on the regular such as counsellors, women's shelters, other women or friends who have safely and successfully escaped a violent relationship. Sometimes police may need to be involved, restraining orders, etc. God bless all the wonderful women on this channel. I pray for anyone in toxic relationships to escape and heal back to the whole Child of God they were born as. Many blessings to all.

When he wouldn't allow me to collect my things from his house, the local police offered to go to the house with me. Police = serve + protect. Don't forget that. Also, have a plan and be very careful whom you share it with (my ex had 40 guns in the house and open boxes of bullets all over the place). You may need to go straight to the police station - they're open 24/7 and they will be able to get you to a safe place - maybe a shelter (addresses are confidential) for abused women. Women of any age or socio-economic bracket can be victims of physical/emtional/mental abouse - don't be ashamed - be pro-active and prepared to just GO.

Thank you for this video. I’m coming up on my 1 year divorce anniversary from a terribly toxic marriage of 14 years. Out of the fog was the book that helped me realize what was happening to me. I’m on a journey of finding myself again. God bless you Heather ❤

Writing down all of the ick is a great idea. I’m going to do that. I’ve been married for 30 years and sometimes it feels so overwhelming but I’m doing it one step at a time.

Great video Heather! One other thing I would tell people is you may even get pushback from your own family. They see you as in this happy marriage especially if you’ve never said anything to them that is negative. I got a lot of pushback from my family and I ended up having to have a big sit down meeting with everybody and share the truth of what my marriage was really like. From the outside, it looked fantastic but from the inside it was this constant fight and make up, fight and make up and it was an unending vicious cycle. There was just a point where I said enough….. I have given enough and I have done enough, and this is all just enough. I walked away and never went back. It’s a very difficult thing to do and it’s very painful because there’s also a part of me that felt like I had failed. You get through it and you move on and you come out the other side and it is glorious. i’m glad you are on the other side now. 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼

Heather, this was a most enjoyable video. Thank you so much for your honesty and vulnerability. I agree wholeheartedly with you about choosing ourselves, thinking about how we feel, thinking about what we want, thinking about what we need, instead of always thinking about what he is thinking, feeling, doing. I think this is incredibly valuable advice for anyone that is struggling with a toxic relationship. You end up spending so much time, analyzing over and over their every move instead of paying attention to our own emotional health.

Good for you. I hope you find a loving supportive provider. We as women become more vulnerable as we walk into being senior citizens. No one can make you feel anything if we understand we control the energy around us and the 1st time we ignore red flags can lead to wasting valuable time.

I heard from a wise woman once, long ago….there are 3 things you should feel in any relationship: “safe, important and accepted”. Define these for yourself and list how (or if) you truly feel each one of these.

Heather, so glad to hear you open ip about this. And the benefit from the 12 step community! I grew up in an alcoholic family and I needed the type of validation and spiritual healing offered by ACOA, CODA, and Al Anon in order to learn what was normal and what I actually deserved. Keep up the healing work, and thank you for sharing this part of your life with us ❤❤❤❤

Heather I hope you don't mind if I add a couple of things: girls- if you're in your early 20's or heck in your first job at Publix open a 401k! My dad was a cpa and made me do this the first day of my first job. I now have over 7 figures for my reitrement. (I just turned 50). Plus, if you start it right away, you won't even notice the difference in your check. 2- If you are about to leave a dangerous relationship that is abusive. NEVER BE ALONE. This is the most dangerous time..... Plus # 3- PRENUP!

Heather, could you make a video about the financial implications of divorce? IE, change in lifestyle, residence, etc. I feel like it would be so helpful for so many of us.
@yankeedoodledarling9232
@yankeedoodledarling9232 3 месяца назад
This sort of thing varies very differently from couple to couple and from state to state. The financial implications of divorce? 1) You need an attorney 2) Your attorney is there to hash out the financial aspects of the end of your marriage. AND They are there to help decide how the children are to be dealt with 3) Your attorney is not your therapist - get a therapist and keep your attorney out of it except if it was abusive and/or dangerous and you have no job or no money. 5) resist the impulse to call your attorney when you are upset. If he threatens you, call the police. If you are any or sad or feeling vulnerable - call a trusted friend, sponsor or family member. Grit your teeth and move forward in safety. Move towards joy, independence and peace. Yes, go no contact. Get busy - doing things keeps your mind off your partner. REFUSE to obsess about them. Go for a walk. Sing a song. Walk your dog, hug your children have tea with a friend!

This is extremely good, professional, educated, personal advice. I’m in a very dysfunctional marriage. Everything you talked about is 100% FACTS! I’ve been divorced twice myself. I have a 5 year old child that has a few special needs. She’s not a child that needs to go to special education but I don’t feel that she can fit into a classroom with normal children either. So far, she’s just been diagnosed with being extremely immature. So she’s 5, but she’s acts like she’s 3 & her speech is very hard to understand by other people. I believe she’ll grow out of that. I’m now going to have to homeschool her bc she’s just one of those children that the school system has failed & she’d just end up falling through the cracks. My health is poor due to health issues not due to my marriage but also bc of my marriage as well. I definitely feel so stuck. Heather, from the first time 1 of your videos came across my newsfeed, I felt a connection to u. I know that u r an extremely genuine person. Thank you for doing what you’re doing and trying to help others. Knowledge is definitely power as well. For those of u that r going through what Heather spoke about, just know that u r not alone.

It is imperative that you have a safe plan to leave if he is abusive. Contact the Domestic Violence hotline but do not use your devices, you don't want him to have access to your safety plan. YOU must be careful and smart.
